Front lid cable and back deck hole

New owners of 72 super bug. Needs a bit of work and we have a couple of questions as we're vw novices.

1. Is there meant to be a release latch inside the car for front lid? If so where and where is the cable meant to go?

2. Also the back deck lid has a hole cut into the area under the number plate (same size as number plate). Am pretty sure this is not a good idea. Can anyone suggest why its there and what we should do with it? I'm thinking of filling it in.

There should be a cable lever in the glove box. The lever itself is riveted to the glovebox bin.

The hole in your decklid is most likely there from someone trying to get a little extra cooling, or they thought they were James Bond and had number plates that flip around... probably the first one.
The 72 deck lid should have vents anyway up top, so the hole should be filled in, or change the deck lid.

it could also be a 76 engine lid as they had an extra thermostatic controlled vent fitted

It's be neat to have a proper hole but this one is not factory made and larger than the one shown.

Addition to front lid latch and cable - there is no latch in glove box and can't find a cable. Where should the cable go?

the cable should be on the right hand side of the glove box
