how much fuel is needed for 44's

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/71009/how-much-fuel-is-needed-for-44s

westi ·

i am putting a 1916 together for a friend and he has a standard fuel pump, which is suppose to run twin 44's.
at what point do you need and aftermarket pump.
i have alway run aftermarket so i am not sure what power you can run on a stock pump.
i suppose this is a silly question like how long is a piece of string but i was not sure so i thought i would ask the question.

cheers.

murray runs a standard pump and it can handle a blower with a duel through webber, dave uses the same stock pump any help brad

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

I'm running a Holley red with 40's witha holley regulator set on just on half. holley red run about 3-4psi?? i know the blues pump a lot more.

Standard mechanical pump in good working order should be suffice.

Joel ·

44s a stock pump will crap it in easy
i know of ppl running 48IDAs with a stock pump with no dramas, but i wouldnt go that extreme
stock pumps can put out upto 5-5.5psi
more than most webers/dells need

Stock ok.
Will handle IDA's at a pinch.

westi ·

i wasn't sure about the actual volume that they could supply,i now they have the pressure,i'm just not sure about the volume.
i guess if they can handle 48's it should be fine.
cheers for the help guy's.
is there one type that is better than the others.and if so how do i identify it.
since there is no rush to build this one i will do some assembly photo's as i go.

Craig Torrens ·

depends on cam and what revs the motor will ge going to.................stock pump will supply ANY size motor if its just motoring around, but it wont keep up if you are reving it all the time.

matberry ·

I'll agree with that, Craig.

westi ·

so i will proberly be better of with a electric pump then, just to be safe.
the engine combo is;
ali case
pobjoy 69 counterwieghted crank.
stock rods
94's
cam i think i might use my old one which is like a fk89.
proberly through on a magna dizzy for ignition.
044's with a westi portjob 42x 37
and comp might be around 9.5 to 1
with 1 5/8 headers with 2 1/2 system.
so she should be a little rev'r.

thanks for the help guy's,i will keep you posted as we go.

Hey westi, up until very recently i ran a standard pump on my 1916 dual ida motor in hillclimbs etc.
Never had any probs at all, 44,s easy.

Cheers Col

hi westi, you've probably got it all sorted by now so just my 20cents worth, a while ago i did a little test of how how much pressure and volume the stock pump puts out, comparing OG german, brasilian, mexican and found too many differences between all of them so decided to go with Holley pump and reg to run the 48IDFs.
Tried to find the results of that test this arvo and figured that i'd left them with the VW manual i sold with the car.
Anyway, gotta come and see ya bout a turbo project i'm working on.
PS thats a mighty big cam for a 1916 and certainly a revver, should be fun.

see ya

If it is healthy engine (cam and heads), he will more than likely run his bowls dry part way through 3rd gear at WOT

westi ·
