Daft Kombi Transmission Question

Hi All,
Just a quick one...
I'm replacing the fluid in my 77 kombi manual transmission. I've located the drain plug, but was wondering is the filler plug the one on the passenger side of the transmission?
Seems to be the go, but also seems that using that I would only be half filling the trans with fluid... And seems an odd way to fill being a hole on the side not top (mind you top is hard to get too)
Sorry for the ignorance, but have always had autos in the past and gave away my tech books thinking I wouldnt get another VW, alas it was not the case...

yes, the side one is the fill hole, and you fill it level with the bottom of that hole.

Make sure the fill hole plug comes out before you take out the drain plug hole. 😁
