Whats happening @ Micks Motors today?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/71291/whats-happening-at-micks-motors-today

Gibbo ·

Hey all, Anyone know what was happening @ Micks motors this morning.
I dragged the family northside on a little expedition, having emailed the guys earlier in the week to make sure parts were in stock telling them I would be in on saturday to pick them all up.
I arrived after 11am, place was closed. Lights on, locked up.
I saw some guy walking around inside, he saw me, ignored me, I tried ringing, he didnt pick up the phone.

So does anyone know what was going on by chance? I wasn't the only one turned away, another car pulled away as I turned up.

So I can only say I was very disappointed. I had possibly $500 to spend in there today getting all my engine and hub/brake parts I needed for the square.

Seems a bit rude to just ignore people standing out the front, wouldn't you just go and explain why you aren't open?

MISS VDUB ·

Sounds very strange and rude. You think if they didn't want to come outside and explain they would at least put a polite explanation on the door?

Brad ·

I think you will find that they shut at 11.00 and I mean shut as in stop serving. The problem with any business when you close is there is always just one more customer to serve.

Gibbo ·

On double checking the website, yep, 11am close on saturdays! wow.
But still would have been nice for the guy to pop out and say they were closed....

Yeah but reffer to my above quote, clossed is clossed, if they pop out and talk to you it kind of defeats the purpose of being clossed.

Gibbo ·

I get what you are saying mate. I guess I just didn't expect to be ignored.

Oh well mystery solved. I guess I will be back there before they close next time!

Maybe He thought you were after a split pin or circlip... lol

I understand closing is closing time. The problem for the shops is that the internet never closes. Gibbo would probably receive the parts before next weekend if he ordered them now on line. That's what happens when you feel ignored, you go elsewhere.

11am is not a normal shop closing time so if he knew Gibbo intended going to see him then, maybe he should have mentioned the early closing time when they were on the phone, then he could have arranged his day to suit.

true and methodical in a sence
however for good customer rapport a simple acknowledgement to the customer is not hard to give..
however IMO that is just plain rude not to acknowledge..
like i said IMO
these small businesses need this support as without it there will be no business..
a management basic for 'customer relations 101'

geez I'm not even out of bed by 11am................what a crap time for a parts place to close 🤪

Sioux ·

considering visiting micks motors on a trip to brisbane on tuesday, hopefully they wont shut at 11am then !!

haha 😀

penguin ·

Nah,
through the week they are open till about 4:30 or 5 from vague (as hell) memory.
Can sympathise for you Gibbo, but I have seen them trapped with folk in the store still getting in after 11 on some days - thats why they obviously didn't want to get to the front door. I am lucky, if I visit my dad, then I am only a few km from there, so easy to get to before 11.

Yeh that could of been handled better,a simple acknowledgement and explanation....nobody likes to be ignored.
He probably had a busy morning and couldn't wait to jump into his VW.😂

bond ·

they are open 50hrs a week. if you cant find the time to make it there on time within opening hours then bad luck.

i cant stand people rocking up on close or alternatively calling prior only to then rock up at closeing time!

its a clients responsibility to know and ask for and respect opening times - none of this assumed "its an unusual time to close".....

- excuse the spat, nothing against you gibbo, any other day i would try relate but just had a client rock up after i had shut the shop at 1:00pm wanting a FREE water test (pool shop) - feeling guilty that he made the effort to come down i turned everything back on for him only to have him not purchase anything and tell me he was going to go to bunnings for his product "cos it was marginally cheaper there"......

Everyone thinks the shops should be open when they want to shop
the taxi they ordered should be waiting around the corner just for them
the guy repairing cars that have booked in should stop and look at their car first
the bus should stop and pick them up when they are late.
Just remember this saying I have on my office wall " Why is YOUR lack of planning, suddenly MY emergency?" which I point too when clowns expect me to fix their stuff ups.👍

winerot ·

there could be a good reason for him not acknowledging the customer like orders from the boss or his the cleaner
& is not allowed to answer customer calls or door knocks.
just cleaned up my post as it was over the top sorry.
cheers wally

seems like the replies have upset some of us small business owners

donn ·

Yeah, well being a small business owner I know how they feel, mind you the replies havn't upset me, but I do inform anyone who phones and says their coming that we close at............. don't be late. The one that realy pisses me off is the people behind the counter who think that they can answer the phone and take orders etc after they have started to serve me, like, hello, I made the effort to front up, surely I deserve some service

PartyHatCentral ·

Yes, I know what was going on, though this is not how I remember it, and it certainly disappoints me to read this thread.

Mick Motors closes for business at 11am on Satuday mornings (including phonecalls) and has done so for as long as I can remember.

For those of you who are interested -

I was the guy walking around inside.
Front door closed at 11:15am (last customer served).
I did see some guys at the door in my travels around the shop at about 11:30am and subsequently spoke with them about some parts that I unfortunately could not help them with. Aside from grabbing a quick bite to eat, the rest of the day was spent working on a car out the back in the workshop (yes, that one) as afterhours is the only time I get to do this - oblivious to anyone at the front of the building. I am not a rude person, I certainly did not 'ignore' anyone, and nobody was 'turned away'. These comments are not appreciated. I don't doubt that people are arriving well after closing time, as we have seen people arriving late Saturday arvo and Sundays on the cameras.

It disappoints me to think that I feel the need to explain my afterhours activities, but I don't believe this to be a fair thread, and as such I feel it requires some clarification. I do, however, hope that this response can satisfy everyone's curiosity on the topic.

People, please remember that this is a public forum, and that discretion should be used before passing opinion on other members and/or businesses. For those of you who have been on this forum from the start, I'm sure you're all well aware of what can happen as a result of such remarks, as we have seen it happen too many times before.

Negative and/or inappropriate threads do not help anyone or this forum.

Let's just concentrate on the cars.

Rohan

On behalf of Mick Motors and myself.

donn ·

Onya Rohan, a fair and timely reaspons, we all have our limits and I reckon you have dealt with this one very well.

Gibbo ·

Rohan, I have said in a previous post that indeed I did get the closing times wrong, I just assumed that like many other places Micks would be open all day on Saturday. My bad. I got my answer in the first post by Brad. And for me the issue was closed from there on.
The last thing I wanted to do was upset anyone. Especially someone who I intend to do a lot of business with over the next few years. So I apologies if this has caused any grief. I had no idea the thread would get so out of hand.
I thought you looked at me out the front there a couple of times, if you say you didn't see me then fair enough. Crossed wires etc etc no problem.

I still have a big order to fill and am quite prepared to come down and go through my list with you guys, get some advice and spend some cash if you will accept it. Maybe even today.

So im all for concentrating on the cars. oh and reading opening times before making trips out in future! 🙂

as a small business owner ,i agree with gibbo a simple quick run to the window or door sayning sorry mate we close sharp at 11am sorry if you didnt know that but thats a firm policy but u can go to our website etc etc that is professional . nothing pisses me of more than as said standing at a counter with a salesman standing there in front of u fininshing what he was doing then looks at u goes out back comes in and looks at u then the phone rings and answers it then walks out back to the point u follow him out back and then he sits down and starts talking to his fellow workers about what for lunch and u say can i get a hand i want to buy something and he goes yeah ill just have a bit to eat and i walked out for the last time this happened in campletown ,thanks tony

Gibbo ·

Guys, if Rohan didnt see me, then he didnt see me. That would explain why he didnt come to the door. Thats good enough for me. 🙂

Move along, nothing to see here. Im quite embarrased about the fuss this has caused. All I wanted were some car parts.

Calcool ·

So is there a sign out the front clearly stating Business Hours?

Could be a good idea and save questions with people standing out the front in future.

I know many businesses I have turned up to over the years and cannot find a sign stating business hours and I have never returned thinking if they do not look at their business thru the customers eyes and therefore probably may not be able to serve me what I need. A beauty is only having the Business Hours visible during business hours so when you turn up after hours it is covered by a roller door or you need a telescope to read it from the front fence!

The customer is often not right and that is why they are not standing behind the counter, but in front of it!

Cheers,

David

amazeer ·

in my experience of standing behind a counter or holding the other end of the phone, the customer is lucky to be right 50.5% of the time. The other 49.5% you just have to humour them. I'm just glad I dont do that anymore.
