I am converting my type 3 to upright to go into the baja, got all the tins off, got the big bolt off and the cast pulley but for the life of me could not get the actual cooling fan/steel fan off.
Tips would be great.
Thanks

Hi
The VW recommended way is a special puller that bolts into the 2 8 mm holes, then a screw pushes out of the puller pushing against the end of the crank.

You will see two M8 threads that a simple puller [strong/gusseted flat bar with 2 holes drilled] will bolt to, with the big securing bolt wound in some,by tightening the 2 m8's or loosening the pulley bolt, the fan will be pulled/pushed off.

Why not keep the Type 3 gear? No belt to break 😉
Joel ·
its for a baja
broken fan belt may not cause over heating but fan intake next to exhaust will 🤪

What do you mean no belt to break? Type 3 still had a geny belt and yeah for the baja so want to keep everything up and as cool as possible
Joel ·
if the belt breaks its only the genny that stops spinning not the fan so worst ur gonna get is a flat battery not a cooked engine

...Joel gets the Gold Star today 😎
