Now I heard that Toyota Celica 5 speed Transmissions are also a good Transmission to use with the VW... though hard to come by now.
well... lets hope something pops up, lol...
Cheers,

I sold my Berg 5 recently, with ZF LSD for 6k nz$. A friend got one built at Rancho, and another one from Dave Folts in the US.
They arent cheap but available.

You heard WRONG. VWs require a transaxle with driveshafts hanging out the side...

yeah that was my fault - different car, different planet - Sorry Dave - thats what you get for spending too many years selling parts at SuperCheap for those crappy Holdens.
Best not to listen to ur cousin, you may end up with a
Holden rather than a VW...and that would be a real shame !
Please correct me if Im wrong, but didnt think the 901 box was strong at all. A good 1916 could probably tear it up. If your looking for a 5 speed, I know its not an up front straight bolt in but wouldnt you better off buying a 915 box?
Grey 57 ·
901 will handle up to 200hp as they did in the early 911's but they have the dog leg first gear and a final drive not much lower than a Super Beetle box. I.e about 3000rpm at 100ks.
915 is the better bet. Normal 5 speed layout and good ratios. G50 or G60 even better, but way way exy. Really depends on what you want your box to do. Lower cruising rpm;s or better spacing between the gears.

im selling a 5 speed kombi box, to suit a wedgie, its got the gearlincages as well (they are side mounted not end mounted!)
i can ship it any where you want at you cost, the cost of the box is $500! its in good shape!
(e-bay usually $800) be quick!
yeah well,,, someone buy me a lotto ticket pplease????? :-)

this would do me..........

I paid just on A$3 for a fully rebuilt 915 (no exchange)from a guy who has been doing for over 25 years. Do you guys want me to see what price I could get these at if 4-5 were purchased or is that still too much money on what people want to pay?
Believe I can request all alloy cases instead of magnesium as well.

daimo - the berg 5 speeds are nice! am thinking about it for my 091...
wouldnt bother with a 901 box. 915 i thinks the go in terms of cost effectiveness v strength. otherwise g50 like ian.
vwjon - assume the 5 speed you're selling is out of a van? or caravelle or something? bit sure if they are suitable or not....

yes they are, as you can tell, they are now CNC billet aluminium............the two prototypes survived two seasons racing fine. Doug was very happy.
the above version is to fit type 1, they are looking at doing a kit to also allow fittment to kombis.
grogy ·
hi, is it a big job with many mods to fit a 915 to a bug
vwjon ·
yes bond, the 5speed box is from a late 80's wedgie bus

these guys are popular among the german look folks...
Did you bring this over from the states? What did the dollars work out like? Did Rancho build it up using the Berg 5 kit? Looks like it was on The Samba at one stage - is that where you got hold of it? PM me if you like.
