There is a 70's squareback starring with russell crowe in American gangster... great to see......

even if it is a 70's model which is first shown in the movie during a 1969 shot.......

68AutoBug ·

that seems to be the problem...

No one in the film industries knows the date of VWs...

In a movie which was supposed to be in the early 50s in germany they showed a beetle with towel rail bumpers..

not sure if it was Walk the line [Johnny Cash] or an Elvis movie... lol

although the silliest thing was in STOCKINGER - the Austrian police show on SBS where He drove a late model type 3 variant.. and didn;t know where the engine was ??
and He was a detective... lol

One that I remember along those lines was The Rutles - All You Need Is Cash, the Beatles send-up movie made by ex-Python Eric Idle:

Fantastic film if you're a Beatles fan. It was made in 1978, but was sent in the Beatles' era, 1963-1970. In the early 'Beatlemania' scenes, 1963 or so, you can see a Mk 1 Golf in the background.

they used a 70's square for Rock Start too. it was set in the 80's though so at least they didn't get the year wrong...😀

its only the vw nuts that notice that sort of thing which is a small portion of the audience so producers dont care
always makes me laugh tho, there was an add on a few years ago i cant even remember now what for but this guys girlfreind is leaving him and it shows her chucking here luggage into the engine bay of a blue KG cabrio
or the one that makes me laugh every saturday is the red Lbug on the front of the checkoutclassifieds listed as a 1960 beetle 😂

i too say, who cares if they get the year slightly wrong. any dub is a good dub.

Brissybug ·

On a different note with out of date styling, have a watch of the first ALIEN movie. How freakin 80's do those guys dress for something set eons into the future!!😏

Take comfort in the fact that most things on tv / in movies is incorrect, you just notice the stuff that you're interested in! TV research is very patchy, and often they don't even consult someone who knows the subject, they just make it look how they want to.

Hmmm, shall I look for tv work over here, or perhaps I should try something else, am not sounding too impressed with it all am I?! 🙄

A type 3 variant features quite highly in a 90's film called "the stoned age"
