Does anyone know if there is list of rules and regs that i can access in regards to building a modified bug for street legal use (in Queensland) ?
Some of the things I am contemplating is using fiberglass widened guards, wider wheels (to fill guards), lowering of suspension and perhaps a 2litre motor (with a reasonably quiet exhaust).
Car body will stay intact and it won't be chopped or modified in any way. Chassis may be modified from swing axle to IRS.
I know a MOD plate will be required, but how difficult is it to get one ?❓

top tip, keep it as standard as possible. u will get a pm soon, im going thru hell trying to get a permit to modify my bug to a baja! i'm in WA but the rules now cover the whole of aus!
have you looked on the dotars web site? search "modify" and you'll find a list of vauges, very open to interpretation! cheers jon

Get it registered as standard and then chop away🤪

Yeah for about $50 you can buy all the ADR's on CDROM from dotars. Then there are the unique rules to QLD which i can't really comment on as i'm only familiar with NSW (these are freely available from the RTA website). The irs shouldnt be a drama as long as you swap all the relevant parts from an irs donor vehicle.
Depending on the rules up there the bigger engine may warrant a few extra's like collapsable steering column, 2speed wipers, windscreen dimester, disc brakes on the front (maybe even the rear).

no need for rear disc but front retractable seatbelt are on the list as well as the above mentioned by ratbug. It depends on how far you want to go as their's a few different levels of engine mods. Talk to a blue plate engineer and they will be able to show you the lists for each mod stage.
