Is stealing wrong?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/71600/is-stealing-wrong

pete wood ·

Gotta talk to my church about "stealing" on Sunday. Just wondering what you guys think about it.

Is stealing wrong?

What's the worst "theft" that's happened to you? VW or otherwise... And what were the consequences for you and the thief?

hellbugged ·

wrong wrong wrong...........hate it!

...........sometimes it's not even what's gone missing, but the feeling of "invasion" that's left lingering, that causes the most damage.

..........that sickening feeling of it happening again anytime............i would definately make a point of mentioning this side of it Pete

how's bub doing?

squizy ·

Some prick stole my first wife.

Is it wrong to feel glad about that years down the track?

Mick058 ·

When i was a younger chap, up until 16 or so (just before i became a christian) i would steal occasionally and i was pretty good at it too. I would mainly pocket things from stores, not often, i can probably remember 5 or 6 instances. I used to change barcodes around, or once i bought a golf bag and paid for it but had stashed things inside the zips.

To be honest Pete, if i hadn't become a christian i would most likely have continued in the occasional steal.

Tax is a big one! who cheats on their tax returns, or pay cash deals with shops instead of putting the item on the books or getting paid cash in hand - all a form of stealing right???

MickH ·

EVERYONE steals or has stolen, including yourself.

Craig Torrens ·

plenty of Catholic priests out there that have stolen childrens lives...............think about that.

Like Mick says, everyone steals.

pete wood ·

good points guys. lets try not to make this about religion. I'd be interested to hear some more stories re stealing too.

Mick058 ·

What about stealing work time? Maybe you want something better to illustrate, but that's something we all do - foreign orders during work, personal phone calls etc.

HotRodMatt ·

Why not? That was the premise with which you started the thread.

How about the Jewish cult that is often called Christianity stealing pagan festivals and making them the core celebrations of their own cult?

Wash Your mouth out with Soap.... 😂

thats just "Normal"

The only thing I can remember getting stolen is Our first TV set just after i was married... so We were without a TV set until We got it back about 4 months later...

it was stolen by a person I knew and He lived about 1km away on the same road....

back then TVs were expensive items...
and insurance was something You couldn't afford... lol

I think Vandalism is possibly worse than theft..
but if Either happened to me...
I wouldn't like it...

PS: I ate a grape at Woolies last year... does that count..

This sounds interesting Matt - can you expand? You got me curious as to what you mean.

HotRodMatt ·

Saturnalia / Winter Solstice / Natalis Invicti Solis / Yule / Hanukkah --> becomes Christmas

Eostre / Osiris, Dionysus, and Orpheus (all of whom had virgin birth, death and resurection) / Passover --> Easter

There's hundreds more examples. When you look beyond what the Jewish cult of Christ says you can read you'll see its whole history is based on cultural and intellectual theft.

LUFTMEISTER ·

I once stole a girls heart!.........................................................................it was in a little esky on the seat of a transplant surgeons car 😁

Mick058 ·

Interesting Matt, i like to hear others thoughts and opinions.

squizy ·

Wasn't there a stolen generation?

Oops.... Sorry.

Notch Nut ·

I remember quite a few years ago when I was working at Karringal Bilo (The feral suburb of Frankston - and that is saying something). One day at work, I told a "customer" to P.off and not come back because they were stealing chocolates and eating stuff without paying etc.
3 Days later I am driving to work and the whole street is sealed of with police tape and cops everywhere. I manage to find some back way of making it to work that day and on the news that night, the guy who I caught stealing was murdered. His ex wife and her boyfriend drove their car through his bedroom window while he was alseep and pinned him down, cut off his fingers and stabbed him to death (all these people were "customers" to our humble little store BTW!).
I'm guessing there is such a thing as Karma. 😊

I used to always get my valve caps knocked off fromt he car park at that store all the time as well.😠
- Adam

68AutoBug ·

I just remembered I had My alloy valve caps and chromed stem covers stolen this year...

Luckily I had spares...

and they didn't cost a fortune....

but I have nice alloy valve caps with the VW emblem in color on the top...
bought on ebay from overseas...
they do lock on with an allen key...

but they are still packed.....

one day I will put them on...

In some cultures stealing without getting seen or caught is considered earning the rights to the items.

One of my neighbours wanted to get rid of a 18 year old fridge that still worked so he left it on his nature strip with a sign on it "Working Fridge - Free". It sat on his nature strip for 2 weeks and no one was interested. He changed the sign "For Sale, $350 or best offer". It was stolen during the night.😀

My mum can go one better...

She put an electrical stereo out on the curb. SAid same thing... free stereo to nice home...then she put a tarp over it with bricks on each corner...she even had it sitting on a piece of carpet

I kid you not...first the tarp was stolen on the first night... the brick on the second along with the carpet piece. No one took the stereo. 😂

It went back into the shed ready to be thrown at next counsell pick up. Who knows...maybe someone will take it home then. 😂

For me it (i.e. not stealing) is about the reward of earning what you have. There is a satisfaction in knowing that you deserve what you have.
Stealing is just laziness with some greed thrown in ... my 2c worth

Why not Lee? The question was raised within the guise of religion. A religion that has theft at its heart.

njg02 ·

Just because someone steals doesn't mean it's right, or ok.

Eostre / Osiris, Dionysus, and Orpheus (all of whom had virgin birth, death and resurection) Legends all!

whatnow ·

matt i don't think that the question was raised in the guise of religion. he was just explaining why he was asking the question. would you have a problem if it was to talk to a school class?

if you have a problem with his religion, well, errr, get over it. normally i'd just move on and find another thread but the one thing i'm really intolerant of is intolerance.

before you ask i'm not christian, i don't believe in "god" and i don't like organised religions full stop (they often breed intolerance), but feel that everyone should be allowed to believe/do what they want as long as it doesn't fu#k up others.

end rant here.

i take the vine of vine tomatos to price them as standard toms, but i believe woolies are stealing of our farmers ,thats my accuse

HotRodMatt ·

whatnow wrote:one thing i'm really intolerant of is intolerance.
Same as me... and the religion he practices is all about intolerance. "Only through me" is the height of intolerance and arrogance.

If religion isn't going to be discussed - particularly one with such a disgusting history (including its recent history) as the Judaic cult of Christianity then he shouldn't have raised it.

Those who despise intolerance should despise a religion who has it as their stock in trade.

And nothing has fucked up people like the church!

ancientbugger ·

I grew in London where you never bought anything new, you always knew someone who could get it "cheaper" for you. I've stolen and been stolen from, it's not nice but sh*t happens and you have to get over it. I never bought a new TV until I came to Oz as I'd lost all of my contacts. I had a nice set of Wolfrace wheels stolen from a beetle in England, came out of a girlfriends' house to go home and there's my pride and joy sitting on a pile of bricks👎 Pissed me off big time but it gave me the opportunity to get some Compomotive wheels that I actually prefered and suited the car better. A mate got them for me at agood price👍 When stuff just gets damaged for no good reason really cheesed me off, like breaking into my KG to try (they never actually succeeded because the thief was expecting the stereo to fall out from under the dash!) to steal the stereo by smashing the window. I ended up having to drive half way across the south of England to get a replacement door glass....twice

vwpizza ·

I once had the air stolen from my tyres,it left me feeling flat🤓😂

whatnow ·

matt, the way i see it is just because he follows a certain religion doesn't mean he did those things or even agree's with them. just because we devote a fair percentage of out time to vw's doesn't make us nazi's or mean that we like that jewish slave labor was used by the KDF factory during ww2, we take what we want and/or leave what we want from the aspects of our lives.

if pete wood was spouting hatred in the name of christianity i'd say something but he hasn't.

as far as stealing is concerned, i have stolen something/s from every place i worked at for any length of time (generally a lot less than most of the other employes though) but never could bring myself to steal from an individual. i kind of felt that if i wanted something that bad then i should go and get a job/better job/not spend my money on whatever, etc. to steal from someone feels like the height of rudeness (for want of a better way to put it).

kroozzn63 i worked for one of the glass houses that grew those things, while i don't advocate doing that to the supermarket, if you sent that growing company bust i'd dance a little dance, they were right bastards. btw wash your truss tomatoes...

if you really believe stealing is wrong and you live in Australia poll to give it ALL back and all the foreign revenue earned from exporting its natural resources to its owners and prepare to pay RENT!!!!

I'm not questioning where they spend it...just the fact they have less to spend due to some slackarses taking it......as for stealing, everyone does it....it just depends on what level you are willing to tolerate.
From a scale of 1 to 10, I can tolerate up to about 4.😎

whatnow ·

Craig Torrens wrote:.as for stealing, everyone does it....it just depends on what level you are willing to tolerate.

i would be interested to know how this scale works with relation to who is doing the stealing and who is being stolen from.

ie. i would imagine that you would be far more tolerant if it was you doing the stealing vs someone stealing from you,
from a 3rd party perspective it would also vary given the value you give to the person/group who is stealing and who is being stolen from. ie a big company vs someone you can't stand vs a random stranger vs a family member.

newoldmanx ·

there is also the matter of buying and selling stolen property
if a group of self righteous thugs came into your yard/house and claimed it for themselves then managed to sell it to ppl who sold it on again would you still feel it was yours and seek to have it back or just accept that its lost forever what if it were a relative or your whole family they stole and sold on and on we europeans have a special bond with family and its the only analogy that comes close to describing and indigenous aboriginals connection with country which incorporates land sea all space and time past and present would you want ppl to try to help you how would you feel if they said hey it wasnt me dont blame me chin up ole son just get on with it its in the past now🙁👎

LUFTMEISTER ·

You seem to be stuck in one groove newoldmanx old son. The conqurers have always conquered and the vanquished make their own way. Been the same since the dawn of time. No one said what has been before was fair or just, but there are other aboriginals (original inhabitants) that have faired much worse. I see you like Fiji, I wonder how they feel about all the foreigners taking over their country by outnumbering them? 😵‍💫

pete wood ·

ummm.... actually, as far as original inhabitants go, Native Australians have suffered more than most. Tasmanian Aboriginies were really just slaughtered en masse by short or long term methods. Maoris at least has some say in their country. Native Americans didn't do well, but at least they were offered something.

LUFTMEISTER ·

What history books do you read? Native Americans were shot like Buffalo and whole tribes were eliminated. Sure they were given reserves ...until someone discovered something valuable on it then they were "relocated" to marginal lands, not prime, bountiful lands they once roamed (they never owned land as they were seasonal nomads and ownership was a european concept). Like I previously stated no one said the past was fair or just and the future is guaranteed too no one. All we can do is learn from previous mistakes and move forward.

What history books do you read? the ones that say Columbus discovered America or Cook discovered Australia HA RUBBISH
Taukei or indigenous Fijians outnumber immigrants they also own 90% of all the land (which also incorporates sea etc) here in Fiji everyone else pays RENT
how do you feel your car your house is burgled every thing is stolen do you say to yourself well "the conquerors have always conquered and the vanquished make their own way. Been the same since the dawn of time. No one said what has been before was fair and just move on
or you phone the police only to be told "mate we know who did it but that was in the past All we can do is learn from previous mistakes and move forward anyway your lucky the ppl down the road lost twice as much

really how "lucky" would you feel

a good friend of mine and former head lecturer of aboriginal studies at Sydney uni Andre Leu gave me a good headstart on the plight of aboriginals in the country in which i was born bred and poorly schooled (like the rest of the population) the rest i have obtained from the source mostly the Kuku Yulangi Australias last rainforest language group(from the Daintree rainforest) Bill Neigjie an elder and custodian of many Kakadu stories and sites, Ray Rex decendent of the namesake of the Rex range whom has been a go-between for me the things i learned and my children are being taught about Australian aboriginals in Australian schools is ludicrous

we should aim to do much much more than simply say well that was in the past yada yada its not my problem what about those dole blugers stealing my taxes crap😬 😬

LUFTMEISTER ·

If the Fijians are so happy why did they overthrow the elected government? You then compare nation changing events to a personal burglary? Am i missing something? Nature (storms, earthquakes, firestorms, drought) takes more away from people every year than human invasions do. Should we be angry at God then and ask him to replace everything that was taken from us?

newoldmanx ·

more to the point why did the australian gov nothing to do with independant Fiji jump up and down insisting on democracy (they have obviously never heard of or delt with China) when the fijians once again took control of their own destiny were they scared the fair aussies might follow??"wheat board what wheat board anyway how was the footy on the weekend"
even national events come down to a personal level i was merely trying to give you an opportunity of understanding albeit on a much smaller and more personal scale

you live in Australia roughly how many Aboriginals would you personally interact with on a daily basis??
how many in a month??

LUFTMEISTER ·

Unfortunately I do not meet many now. Maybe 1 a month. But I grew up in Inala and they were in my class, in my social group and in my neighbourhood. I do not have a problem with them. Why do you ask? As I said the Fijians acted because once the government changed to non indeginous they then might have been the ones paying rent to the (political) conquerors.

newoldmanx ·

i ask just for reflection isnt it strange maybe 1 a month
the coup in Fiji was executed to try to abolish excessive corruption and to form a more inclusive society (for the benefit of all citizens) it was against the largest taukei party not the non-indigenous it would take a successful invasion to change Fijian ownership of their land not merely a change of government
the head of state is the President of Fiji whom is non elected and must be Taukei
i (not the bank) own a few properties in oz and i voluntarily pay my rent to various indigenous initiatives to me its only right

koolkarmakombi ·

Pete, prob too late re theft but:

We had a bit over $700 stolen from work; a large psych unit. The money was in the safe in a locked room that only staff have access to. Whoever knew the cash was there also would have know that it was a patients money, for rent, for discharge after a looooong admission. This money was the deal maker grant from a few govvie bodies and centreclunk.

That person knew they were stealing money from the lowest end of societies disadvantaged. But did it anyway. Now all my staff inc me are under suspicion.

It sucks, hurts, angers, disappoints, frustrates and leaves me cold......

We replaced the money but not the breach of trust.

Why? No answer would satisfy me.

I have stolen things from people as a young man, not proud of it, circumstances and choices or decisions at the time predicated reason and logic. I have had things stolen from me in return, which left me feeling uncomfortable and awkward, allowing me to reflect on how the people i stole from must have felt, I did not like that feeling and as a result have given a moments thought to my life choices...like why do i drive Volkswagens and not hyundais...? Should i cross the street on a red light? why are there still wars and starving dying people who would love the taste of free thought and living while rock stars get together and kick out the jams to end world poverty?...nice try Bob? will the stock market bounce back or are we in for another recession depression we had to have? How is it possible that all the size 13 doc martens are never in stock when i want them(comfort not culture)? church and state? that's been going on since Adam was a lad,and yes, skull and bones still meet at luxuriously obscure places of commune every third saturday to decide the worlds fate( cough cough)...westinghouse? GE..LG..Samsung? they don't just make appliances for the well to do and upwardly mobile.. i have dappled in the waters of christianity and danced with some sexy and very friendly pagans, all part of growing up and out as a human, variety is one of the spices of life, why eat from one bowl when there is a smorgasboard to dine from? affuent or effluent, there has always been the have nots and the haves., i guess if you have the power to make your own choices and you decide to take something that is not yours to take, be it a candy from the general store, millions of lives, virtue of a young innocent life, a car, whatever... be prepared for karma or fate whichever suits you...it can be a bitch and it can bite you on the arse, but hey lifes like that. not always linear or logical, much like my rant but once its out there..it's a done thing, it's history, you can dwell on it and whip yourself into a religious gulit ridden frenzy or accept things as they are and hop in your flat four or contemplate your navel and the price of tomatoes from the woolworths company, whatever, just dub it! 🙂
