Eventually we find some more sand and end up on a boat
Then more often that not the boat runs aground, and no where near the luxury resort we are planning on staying at so we all have to get off and fend for ourselves.
More often that not we end up pushing our buggies in an attempt to save fuel.
Then before we know it we have to sit under the trees, drink beer and try and cool off from all the pushing
Some guys even take their wheels off to try and save on the cost of tyres
Eventually we just give up and camp on the side of the road and wait for rich people in 4WD to bum a smoke and bag of ice off
When that fails we end up lining up and begging all those who go buy to help push us home
When that doesn't work we are forced to travel in pairs
Cause if we don't we get into poo poo
Then when we do get off the beach and try and go looking at stuff the traffic SUX..
Not to mention how long it takes the damn RACQ to show up
I tried to get help but could not seem to get my buggy on the flight so decided to stay
So back to lining up and beggying for fuel money
Then by the time we get back to the boat and try and go home it has all turned to ^*%&*^%
Yep the Fraser Trip SUX and should be avoided at all costs, damn Manx Club Members making me organise it again .....
Now once we are on

Damn sun stayed out all week and and buggied kept getting stuck and making me wind the windows on the 80 series and let the air con out ...
Although a few people did say that swiming was a much better way to cool off,
If only they had of been smart enough to get out of the buggy first.....

And I have no idea how but Andrew managed to keep the EG33 Powered Baja Bus in one piece, although I did hear he hit a tree.
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
i drive a 4wd tour bus throught the same tracks and dont' seem to have an issue at all....
In fact i have been on truckloads of holidays to Fraser in the last 30 odd years and the amount of times I have had to get out of VW to get it out of a sticky situation i could count on a couple of fingers....
and this is ALL over the island(cause back in the day you could got everywhere)
Will be back on the island doing tours soon as busy season is starting already(bring on the Brazilian back packers hehehehe)

That is easy to answer, Driver Ability and the other idiots on the beach.LIFE IN THE LOW LANE wrote:I'm looking at some of the places showing people stuck and it amazes me how some of you do it???
Whilel we were there I saw a few tourist buses get stuck, always due to incompetant drivers, no other reason. Pretty sure I even have video of one of the boys pulling up beside and asking if they wanted a tow.
The other issue is other drivers. If you are going through, say the Indian Head cutting and some idiot is coming the other way and crosses over causing you to slam on the brakes then chances are you are gunna be stuck. Not your fault but stuff happens.
I spent some time towing clowns out, main reason they were stuck was driver error, ie they were too stupid to let their tyres down cause they knew boats.
You would think when some guy pulls up in a loaded Landcruiser beside them and then drives around stops in front and pulls them out in there new $80 000 4WD they would ask themselve, how can he do that.... I would say about 30 PSI less and half a clue... people just seem to think their great new 4WD don't need to let its tyres down.
Anyway, the buggy in the creek was just plain stupidity, but it made good video and I didn;t have to clean it out, just tow him ..
The majority of the guys that came over drove around liek it was sealed road all week and never had an issue.

Personally Hire Troopies are the vein of my existence. not knowing which way they are heading on the beach is drama in a big bus. Beach has a slope, you indicate which way you are going and all you see if the drivers arms crossing up and the car lurching every way. I simply stop and wait for them to go past cause a bus can be pretty top heavy and she can lean pretty hard and end up on it's side if you do something stupid.
Best way to avoid them in a buggy is drop the tyres real low and stay up in the soft stuff LOL. the hard sand bandits are the ones who cause you the most drama and they stay near (or in) the water LOL.
MUD BASHING ANYONE ?? ·
but in my short stay i did manage to have a heap of fun the best was pete smoking the chuppa chup he came outside coughing and spitting and saying somthing about smoking a chuppa chup so i found out later that laura or someone bought along a smoking thing (bong) used for smoking indian/ arabic tabaco that was flavered with apple/grape and another with berry or somthing and they were all giving it a go pete thought he would be brave and i beleave he was not impressed

I'm happy to help anyone on the beach or bush, but when they wont listen and they know better, well then we'll just drive on.

I have about 5 hrs of footage to flog through in search of stuff worth editing, so much crap .. we really need to invest in some tripods.

hmm I think so, I would say that was what the sticker said but Andrew forgot to put one on his bus.
That being said out of the 4 Subaru powered VW's there Custom Vee Dub had either done it drive in / drive out or supplied the parts and advice for the owners to do it themselves.
If you want to know more about it then contact them direct or visit their website www.customveedub.com.au

Yep we did, it was great wether, great people. We did learn a lot about things and have already booked for the 2010 Fraser Island Trip which will be bookings in advance only and have the following rules:11CAB wrote:Looks like you guys had fun
- Payment must be made in FULL prior to 1 Jan 09.
- Offroad VW's only ie Buggies / Baja's (No 4WD's)
- All vehicles MUST HAVE the Vehicle mounted UHF.
- All vehicles MUST HAVE Approved front and rear tow points.
- All vehicles MUST HAVE an "Approved Snatch Strap".
It just looses some of the appeal when you have 4WD's in the group and people without good UHF comms are a PITA. Recovery points you would think where obvious along with a snatch strap, but not obvious enough for some people.
2010 will also be the year of the Buggy and with effect 1 Jan 10 these rules will apply to all Manx Club events to ensure a higher level of safety and fun for all.

So if you badge it as a buggy, drive it as a buggy then you think it with proform as a buggy ?Pauld wrote:not with 31's aired down with the lockright in the rear havent found any sand that it does get stuck in provided you keep the revs up
I have driven a few Sierra's over the years and I found them damn scary on teh beach trying to drive at speed. I have never seen a Sierra doi 80 kmph at high tide :>

MY buggy is still going 😀 tow'd it back to the house after the creek inicident and drained the oil, pulled the plugs and stuff, wacked her back together and she fired up no no worries ready for another action packed day. Few drama's after i got her back to syd but alll in all she's pretty much back to square 1 now, running well and prepared for summer and stockton!phantom wrote:The buggy in the water, how did it fare after that shot? Great shots, thanks for posting....starting to wonder why I sold my buggy. Oh, thats right...Canberra winter....
& i swear it wasnt my fault getting stuck in there, i was driving in the shallow part until a wave crashed over the sand bank (and me) and drifted my buggy to the middle of the lake.
Hows the DVD going Brad? cant wait to see !!

Dude, I'm pretty sure you were driving, that makes it your fault 😂HEL-70Y wrote:& i swear it wasnt my fault getting stuck in there, i was driving in the shallow part until a wave crashed over the sand bank (and me) and drifted my buggy to the middle of the lake.
The tide had been coming in for hours, it was only a matter of time until the waves came over the sand bank.
What is it with Gen Y and not taking responsibility for their own actions. 🤪

I look forward to seeing it. All of the kombi's I have seen on the Beach have been less than impressive and as for going places Sierra Drivers could only have wet dreams about .. I call bullshit...LIFE IN THE LOW LANE wrote:Sporting a Renault box and other goodies it'll go places Sierra drivers could only have wet dreams about....Buggy Brad wrote:Yes Please ... that bus was one very cool split, never seen another one like it.LIFE IN THE LOW LANE wrote:mmm Might have to get my cousin to revive the split panel van for another beach session......

Don't get me wrong I love my Buggies but I have never found anyhere on the Beach they can go Sieerra's can't go. Yes I can get there much quicker but at the end of the day if it came to taking off in soft sand faceing up hill a Sierra is gunns kick my ass every time. heck my big ass Landcruiser will take off better.
daz67 ·
I do disagree with the below though!
Quote"Not to mention soft sand comfortably. something 4WD steer clear of LOL"
Why do I need to steer clear of soft sand? I'll happily drive in and tow you when you need it!
Again cool looking Kombi, Credit to you.

Many times (well 2 come to mind) duning AND offroading, Sierra drivers said ENOUGH and watched the volksies play.😀😀😀

Although I don't currently have a Sierra I would happily put my near stock 80 series Landcruiser against any Kombi on the beach and it would kick the kombi's ass in everything apart from speed, and with a kombi it would be pretty close even with speed.
Everything has its place and I love my Buggies, but people need to be realistic. If I put the same amount of $$$ I have put into my Buggy into my 4WD it would be unstoppable.
Yes VW can drive quicker than a 4WD on the beach and depending on conditions may get the occasional place 4WD's can't due to weight and speed.
Anyway as I said I have a Landcruiser waiting if someone wants to find a kombi and come out and play sometime.
I have always been keen to see someone like John Alder out in his kombi to see if he lives up to his reputation. I know his Dual Cab is an awesome piece of work..
I have always loved that thing.

As for a Kombi needing a tow out of soft stuff..... doesn't happen in my family. We usually are the ones offering to help and get abused so we continue on our way while those refusing help sweat it out digging their car out.

Wow man....I got some reeeealy goooood shiiiiiit.Buggy Brad wrote:I am not saying a kombi will need a tow on the soft stuff I am just saying that kombi owners are on drugs if they think that their kombi can out perform a 4WD in areas other than speed on sand.
You wanna buy some.
And I would go duning in a volksie way before a 4by. They are heavy pieces of shiiiiit.

Each to their own... On appearance my everyday driver ( six wheel, extended chassis nissan patrol 4.2td ute with a custom patrol pod) would "appear" to be great and it is. but yes it does way 3t, but it also has shit loads of torque. that blue kombi looks great though!
