Hi,
I have a pair of front seats that came with a 71 bug I recently bought. They weren't fitted to the vehicle, so I don't even know if they are VW type.
They appear to be adjusted on a centre track, which runs on rectangular pressed metal mounts that screw to the floor pan. There is also a rail on each side which makes contact with the floor.
I'll upload some pics shortly, but any guess might be good in the meantime.

You're spot on, thanks for that! I've managed to pick up a set of 71 seats, so I won't be needing these. They're in pretty good nick too.

By any chance are they EXACTLY like the brown one i posted - as opposed to the grey ones.
I am after the plastic cover over the gear mesh on the brown set
Sort of the reverse of the inside ones that i have

Yes they are the same, but both of my outside ones are cracked or broken. In fact only the inside passenger side cover is unscathed. The mechanicals seem ok though.
