I am gauging interest from those wishing to have a run at Willowbank on a saturday night before Christmas. I know of a few who are keen so thought I would throw ii out there wih the following date..
DATE - Saturday 20th december
If you are keen then post which date you like and we will go from there. Be good to have something like 10 odd Volksy's to get out there and run eachother!
Cheers Brennden
matberry ·
22nd Nov or sooner for me 😁😁
Sides ·
Aww man - I can't make either of those dates !!!
🙁
Dak-A-Tak ·
We might have a talk, about this at gold coast show . Rod can't make any of those dates but 20th Dec is ok ,I my self don't care when even after christmas to 27th Dec too .
Dangerous what are your thoughts on this and Stanly too .
We might even go to wednesday night event too .
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Open to ideas everyone but thought saturday would be better as no traffic on Ipswich Mwy and don't have to rush after work!!
matberry ·
Just make it SOON
or I'll be out there without ya's
Dak-A-Tak ·
When I said Wednesday night I mean Rod and I . The 22sec he has to be at farm and 13th he is away oversea's
matberry ·
What about this Sat, after the manx show?
Stanley ·
I'm easy as i'm close by, however I need time to organise a tow car and trailer (until mine is built)
Just don't make it a Saturday when the Street Series is on or you'll spend most of the night in the staging lanes waiting.
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Yeah good point Stanley give the nights a miss when Street series is on.
dangerous ·
I am cool for any Wednesday night.
Saturday nights are out for me unless long term planning.
I wont be running until my new pushrods are made,
and I have not even ordered the tubing yet.
Most likely early next year.
But always keen to know if you guys are running and I will try to make it up there.
Sides ·
OK, dumb question time - what's the requirements (car and driver) for running in a T&T at Willowbank ???
My drag racing experience is basically zero... just Warwick last year, and then crew for Wally at Jamboree this year...
Stanley ·
helmet, shoes, long pants and a flanno
To run at these events you needRequirements for a carhelmet to Australian Standards
long sleeve shirt
long pants
covered shoes
Requirements for a bikehelmet to Australian standards
leather jacket or equivalent
long pants
boots & gloves
Special note:Cars can not run quicker than 11.00 sec
Bikes can not run quicker than 10.00 sec
To run quicker than these you will need an ANDRA licence
Cost$38 to race, admits the entrant and one other.
Spectators $19 adults, $17 students with ID
Children 13 & under are free
matberry ·
So this sat no good?
I dont mind wed if we get more passes, as long as we have a few days notice.
Sides ·
OK, cool - thanks for the info Stanley - meet those requirements no worries, and no WAY will Jezebel get anywhere near 11.00 down the quarter !!!
I'd be keen for most any Wed night...
STOCK ·
HEY MATT GET OUT THOSE NAPKINS FROM WARICK
& DO SOME OF THOSE ADJUSTMENTS YOU STOLE FROM US
HOPE YOU GUYS HAVE FUN.
SYDNEY SUX NO TEST & TUNES FOR US
THE JUNKA STILL HASN'T COME OFF THE
TRAILER FROM WARICK.
I SPOSE WE SHOULD GET ON TO THAT
BiX ·
I could be up for a wens night, better than weekends for me.
matberry ·
STOCK, you know all the best shit was first designed on a napkin, and I dont mean the type Brad wears😂😂😂
You guys better pull it out and get that car ready, at this rate you'll end up bust'n your a.. for Warwick 09, never mind Portland, or just bring her up here, I'll play....
What's Wed next sound like, or too close to GC show?
Dak-A-Tak ·
Well the idea is try to get all the volkys mate's together for a lazy chat or food (christmas cheers) and then a few runs together at track . For Me a Saturday is best for a lazy get together (don't need to rush ). A Sat ,Test & Tune is the best more time and track opens a little earlier .Plus it tides you out for work next day if it's a Wed !
No people , Rod , Matt,Stanley,Myself ,sides ,bix , maybe Troy ,or Dave B.
For me and rod 20th Dec ?
typethreeking ·
yeah pete, all going well at the dyno this week coming, i would love to take the car out for a spin. 20th is good for me its the start of three weeks holidays👍
Stanley ·
i'm in for the 20th....should have my decklid on by then too
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
So do we have the general consensus that the 20th is go? I'll edit thread title if this is agreed apon.
typethreeking ·
sounds good to me, gives people at bit more time to organize things
Stanley ·
Everyone still on for this next saturday? (weather permitting of course)
555bug ·
Hey Wes do you want to take the bike out for a spin again? I'd like to have a run and as my bug is years off this is my only option 🙂
Stephen
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
I will be there!! Unsure if Troy's car will be a starter but he may take his bike up for a squirt.
Dak-A-Tak ·
Well who is coming ? Rods new motor is in , a couple small jobs to do(in blue car ) .All so new slicks to fit to erco's .
I have some maintance to do but so far all looks great (oil clean)
People coming alone ,What will we do ? We could eat there or maybe all meet at Mc Donalds befor willowbank ( eat ,chat ) .
This is a Fun event, for us ,vw nuts to get together befor Christmas .
Dasdubber ·
Hope you guys have a great day/night out at willowbank - I would love to be there but we are having Christmas day early with my in-laws as they are going away, so I can't make it. Will be looking forward to pics/info so hopefully someone not racing can get some good shots!
All the best and merry christmas to everyone, stay safe.
Al
matberry ·
Not sure, workshop now busy with the usual 'out before christmas' jobs. I also ordered some parts from Chinese Bullshit about a month ago, recieved a confirmation that the order had been processed and slugged with a USD$160.00 freight charge, and now after not recieving or hearing anything, the order seems to have never existed, even on my credit card.....what the!!
AND my new panel tow car doesn't have a tow bar yet.....oh the trials and tribulations.😵
Dasdubber ·
Don't feel too bad Matt, CB Perf charged me US$320 for freight for a box of bugger all bits (and got hit with customs duty, GST blah blah).....but at least it got here, hopefully your order can be found and delivered!
matberry ·
I'm glad it's dissapeared (especially off my credit card acc), now I'll get the stuff from a more reliable sorce, always have trouble with them, just had a brain fade. The dollar was bad anyway, not much better now🥲
Stanley ·
I'll be there and last I heard Dave will be too.
Meet up at Maccas would suit and there is plenty of parking at the attached shopping centre.
Gates at track open at 4.00 so just let us know.
Are you bringing both cars Pete or just the blue car?
Cheers
Sides ·
I'm not gonna make it since am down in Sydney at the moment... hope you all have a good run of it tho guys, I'll be hangin out for the report and pics !!!
👍
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Stanley pretty sure he is bringing the blue car and his yellow car. I will be there to help him out with tow car etc etc. Troy is coming but don't think the Type 3 will be there.
Of those going who is interested in doing dinner at the track?? Everybody will bring something and we'll pool it together for a feed? I don't mind organising it so long as everyone brings something!!
Dak-A-Tak ·
I think we meet a Macca's too ,say around 2.30 , 3.00 maybe (chat and cold drinks ,eat )
Yes ! Stanley ,yellow car will be running .
Stanley ·
3.00pm suits me....see you there
typethreeking ·
sorry guys, i wont be there as my car is running badly and needs more tuning that cost to much money which i dont really have at this time of year. would of liked to run my bike but also have a 30th birthday to go to saturday night. have a good one and look forward to hearing some good results...
vassy66T1 ·
Hope you have an awesome time!!!
Kills me not to come but then the family would kill me if I deserted them on the first night of holidays at Caloundra.
Get some video of Rod's new engine running please 😘
Cya in the new year.
matberry ·
Looks like I'm in. See you at Willowbank. In case we're early, which macca's?
Stanley ·
Maccas at yamanto. From brisbane turn off at roadworks where the new overpass is going in, not long after it goes into single lane.
matberry ·
You mean where the gateway/logan toll rd joins to Ipswich rd?
Stanley ·
no....along the Cunningham Highway about 10Ks before Willowbank
13BVW ·
Boonah road exit
matberry ·
Thanks guy's. Can't see us making macca's anyway, but we'll see. Got some used m/t's to fit to rims in bris on our way :-) .
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Should be a good night. Hopefully the weather plays the same game we want to.

Hope the eye gets better dude and we can see the new engine run.
dangerous ·
Sorry to say I will stay at home today.
My eye IS better, but not enought to prepare and drive any car.
I hope I will get some phone reports though.
Stanley ·
Bummer Dave.
Glad to here the eye is getting better though.

matberry ·
Big bummer Dave.
Guess someone else will have to set quickest volksie then. ;-)
matberry ·

It's a dull drizzley dar up here so far !!!

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Well not long been home from test and tune. Was a good night for some and not so good for others. Rod Richardson managed to pre stage and do burnout before oil pressure on new engine basically disappeared so that was it for Rod. Stanley had a fairly large oil down due to possible rings let go or another oil pressure related problem that blew both rocker cover gaskets off and dumped oil everywhere. Pete Page had a minor clutch issue and Matt Berry broke a clutch cable after about 4-5 runs. He did get quicker with every run which was goood to see with quickest being 13.1@104ish MPH. Pete ran an 11.62 and 11.96 both about 116ish MPH. Last run (11.96) was with good wheelstand that sent him towards the wall so back off then get car straight and going in the right direction and still ran 116MPH so would have a been a fairly quick run.
Big thanks to all who came out for a look and lended a hand over the course of the night.
I'll let everyone who competed add in the infinite details.
Dak-A-Tak ·
Here's two average runs - not happy Jan!!!!!!
dangerous ·
Good runs dude.Consistent MPH.
Good recovery on that last one....clutch worked OK on that one!?
Dasdubber ·
Sorry to hear there were a few problems guys but congratulations on getting out there and making a few passes. Pete, your car is looking awesome as usual!
Dave, hope the eye heals fully....I know the feeling, my left eye has only just come back to normal (non blurry) vision after about 3 weeks after getting some solvent splashed in it.
Hope to get out there next year at more meets and mix it up with you seasoned racers. Work has started on the exhaust system of the new engine so hopefully early next year it will be done.
Al
vassy66T1 ·
Thanks for the vids Pete!!
What was the track like?
Would have been pretty humid I would expect too which would have played havoc with tune ups.
Hope Rod's engine didn't suffer any problems.
Matt ... did you get any videos of your runs?
Stanley ·
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE wrote:Stanley had a fairly large oil down due to possible rings let go or another oil pressure related problem that blew both rocker cover gaskets off and dumped oil everywhere.
But still managed a 13.52 at 87mph. Who knows what it would have done without the problem.
Only picked up 7mph in the last half of the track due to maybe a lack of fuel which may have caused a lean out and caused it to turn into an oil pump I guess the boost has to go somewhere. My first oil down....sorry guys.
The last 200ft had no power and the oil light came on just before full track at which time I shut it off and the cabin preceeded to fill with smoke.
Popped both rocker covers and turned the breather box into a fountain so I have an issue somewhere. Good chance to pull it down and fit a CW crank ready for next year. Now off to build a trailer. Thanks to all who came to watch and chat and offer sympathy. Glad the eye is better to Davo.
Only plus was I still beat Matt from start to finish....🤪
matberry ·
vassy66T1 wrote:Matt ... did you get any videos of your runs?
Well I'd love to see 'em Marcus, I was busy pedaling the Hillbilly Racer, no chance of video from me....Did any one have a camera? And if it was you Lisa......cough up😂
Well happy times had by me.
Big thankyou to Col for as usual being Mr Scrounging Can-do Man!!!
Also to John 'blue vision' Ghiaman for the luxury T5 tow vehicle, if not for his offer the hillbilly racer wasn't going to attend the event. The turbo diesel certainly made the trip easy, so much so, we nearly forgot the trailer was on the back. Had to be careful to remember while changing lanes❗
Enroute to willowbank we managed to fit some second hand M/T street slicks....WOW . Heaps better than your OLD worn G-grids Col ❗ These tyres although not improving 60ft's by much (.2s), made the car smoother and much more consistant. We spent the 4 runs getting pressures sorted and leaving the line without spinning too much. 2nd pass we were spinning in 1st and 2nd 🤪.
Col also helped out when we tried to fit the mt's at the track....bloody Murphy....had clearance issues with the inside side wall interfering with adj spring plates....nothing that an angle grinder that the scrounger found could'nt fix.
First run against Stanley saw the 1600 dust the 2332, but by 1/2 track the smoke screen he put out couldn't stop the charge down in the deep end, my 101 mph against the 'running out of oil' 88 mph, but was not quite enough for the win..doh!
3rd pass against a hot HR, I got the win and a thumbs up from the driver as I slowed to give right of way to the inside line to the return road....You gotta love taking a win in a dak dak.
Buy the end of the evening, we ran a 13.144 @ 104.24 mph :-).
Shame the clutch cable broke (guess I'll have to fix the bodgy pedal hook), we felt a 12.90 was definately possible on run #5.....next time.
Any pics out there, please post.
Cheers
Matt
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Car was definately on song Matt and getting better with each run. Bit more fine tuning set up plus some weight reduction and some of Col's tape magic and I reckon a possible 12.80 in there!!! Conditions were pretty good track was good and air temps weren't hot in the arvo and were actually quite nice at night.
Stanley have we had an in depth look at your engine yet?? Be keen to see what was top cause and effect.
matberry ·
12.80 ...NOICE 👍
Did I say street car with muffler still on too.....yeah baby, cant wait till next time.👍
Stanley... w'as up ???
Stanley ·
don't know yet. Will have a look after Christmas. Have to build the trailer to tow it with first.
Although I did start it. Started ok but didn't sound happy. Missing and coughing. Maybe busted rings or a hole in a piston. Damn second hand pistons. Time will tell.
Well done Matt. It was good to see the hillbilly racer trucking on.
vassy66T1 ·
Gr8 Matt!!
Hope to catch up with everyone out at Willowbank in the new year.
Looking forward to news of Rod's car too.
blue vizion ·
Thanks Matt, it was a top time. I recon if you'd let me polish something on the car you would have got into the 12's. Though I did appreciate learning just what the 'Col-look' is!! Might need to get the sand paper and over spray look happening on the ghia!?
FYI 12hr + 520kms round trip = top VW outing.

What a great fun casual night out , shame about the brake downs for the lads but there was still plenty to see out there with the Chrysler boys putting on a show with there old school gassers .
Wish i'dd taken some long clothes and a helmut with me to give the bus a run but hey ya get that and knowing me i'dd a got carried away and brocken the box etc ,mmmmmmm remind you of anyone Mr Mini Man .
Anyway hope to see you all next time out , merry christmas and all .

Dak-A-Tak ·
Race Report , 1st /run all felt good with lots of wheel spin (6000 on 2step) 1.67 60ft ,just shifted gear by feel , 11.63 at 116.70.
2/ run ,short burn out then dry hopped ,felt real good but after car moved the engine flaired up (clutch slip) , just ran through slow .
3/ run ,backed clutch off 2 turns and crossed fingers ,all so put more timeing in as well ( 32 to 34) . Short burnout ,straight in to stage (6000 on 2step) 1.63 60ft then went in to wheelstand ,all very messy after that ,but I chased the mph at topend 116.49 . Car was fine for feeling (to drive )but rear brakes very poor .
Track was poor early but was getting better , 77% H , around 1000 R Air ,30deg track temp .
Rods car was fine at home but after we put 48ida on trailer a oil leak appeared fromed bellhouseing area .New things wasn't fine but a bit more driving around pits problem was not worse . Headed to start line for a run , after burnout Rod noticed oil presure near 0 . New motor befor that seemed strong so I'll pull motor out over christmas and have a look .

OZ Towdster wrote:Wish i'dd taken some long clothes and a helmut with me to give the bus a run but hey ya get that
Crikey Andrew. What sort of excuse is that.
It's cause that water pumper was out numbered wasn't it.😂😂
Dak-A-Tak ·
I just watched video again of my last run and after I got car semy straight then shifted to second gear ,you can see left front wheel comes off ground twice ,cool !!
I had lots of people chating about 4 vw's being there that night , thanks to those that came .
matberry ·
So Pete, where's the pic's?
hellbugged ·
👍 good results Matt!...........keen to attend a session soon (and ready😏)
.......so Rod had the new "crate" motor in "48 IDA"???
matberry ·
Hey Daimo, thanks.
Car ran great, driver a bit rusty but.
104.25 mph... she's really truck'in in the top end, felt sh1t hot :-)
Yes Rod's new crate job was in blue car, but as said, oil pressure dropped alarmingly after burnout so home for diagnosis...bummer
Sorry you didn't make it up, new flash tranny & all.
hellbugged ·
yeah, next time...........box good, 7000 RPM better than ever before😏
Dak-A-Tak ·
Pic's of you ! footage lisa took out of tow car window is near top of page .
