6V fuel gauge in a 12V system

I bought a fuel gauge on ebay recently and when I got it I discovered it was stamped with 6V on the back. The beetle I'm working on runs 12V.
My question is, does this relate to the componentry inside the gauge or will I get away with something as simple as a light bulb change?
If it's impossible to fit into my 12V system, you'll find me in the swappers forum!

thanks Paul

Maybe it was You who said it didn't need changing

I looked at some websites and there was no mention of changing the fuel gauge or sender...

I'm in the process of the same thing at the moment. The gauge is fine and I have two regulators/vibrators and two senders but is there a way of testing these to see which are good and which are destined for the bin maybe using a multimeter? Any help would be welcome.

As previously mentioned 4 months ago(!!) is there a way of checking the sender. I recently got hold of another 'tubular' sender as opposed to a swinging arm version but I've had no luck with that one either. Can they still be bought new? Allhelp gratefully accepted!
