i was just wondering if anybody would be able to tell me if twin port motors have a flywheels that will take a 200mm clutch plate.

if it started life as a 1600 then yea it would have
but not if it was a 1300
they had 180mm

i have been told this is a 1900 motor but i am not sure as i am only new to vw's
I guess i will just have to wait till i pull th motor out of the buggy tommorow to find out.
thanks anyway

9 times outta 10 they will be 200mm jobbies
the 180mm 12-1300 clutches were marginal even at 1600 let alone once u go bigger
get the engine number off the block that will give a fair idea of what it probably has

if the motor is an oversize 1600 to 1900 then you will need the 200mm clutch for the extra power

turns out the motor i had in my car was an 1800 (85.45mm pistons i think) with a 200mm clutch. that i foud and was going to put in was a 1800 with a 180mm flywheel.
after a dig around the yard i managed to find a 1800 motor with a 200mm flywheel. now all i have to do is swap everything over from the old motor as the new 200mm motor is stripped down a bit
cheers aleks
Joel ·
the 85.45s are stock 1600 jugs

thanks man at least now i know what motor i have
(and not to trust the guy that gave it to me)

ive seen 12volt flywheels that take a 228mm clutch to suit 1600 engines. this would make a good choice for a high performance motor application i reckon. saw one on ebay overseas some time back.
