Type 1 gearshift plate. Which way?

I need to know which way the little plate at the bottom of the conical coil spring on a Type 1 gearshift goes in.

I have it with the slope on the right and going up to the front. I have no reverse lock out that way, so that must be incorrect.

What way is the correct way?

it goes on the left hand side with the slope going up to the rear of the car...

id say that's the right way, just up side down........the lip should be on the "top side" of the plate when installed, (towards the drivers feet)
