The cost of an EJ conversion will be the same as an EA Conversion unless you have stuff already in place. The EA81 / EA82 are a fine engine and will serve you well. In a baja it will crap all over a VW engine of the same size and be very reliable.
I would go EJ 22 any day as I find it easier to work on EFI than Carbies, but that is my prefference, my lawnmower still has a carbie.
At the end of the day either will be fine.

you would get away with a type 4 for around 1500 i reackon, 500 motor, 550 conv kit, 350 exhaust maybe 100 extra crap maybe馃槑
