G'day

I drove up to Armidale the other day from Coffs, and when I arrived home I discovered oil dripping from the motor quite alot...

I then sought to find what was wrong and degreased the area and started the engine, once it was up to temp it began oooozing oil from around the barrel where it connects to the case (not sure what number but as you look at the motor the first on the left)

>( ) *This is my poor diagram

can anyone tell me what has gone wrong and what should be done?

hmmm mate dont drive it tiil ya fix it or it might go bang yeah
the head might have come loose n when its hot it will bleed as the oil thins out..
oil is important
dont drive it until its sorted

i susspect it is a failed push rod tube to check the head studs you will need to pop of the tappet cover easy than take the tappets of easy than with your torque wrench set at 27 lbs see if there is any loose ness you can do this with aordinary spanner but if you have never done it use the torque wrench

if there ok than with the tappets of remove the push rod and remove by any means as the tube is buggered with that of get a spring loaded tube and fit with new seals
good luck

yeah sounds like push rod tube seal
check again when it's leaking if it coming out of the end of the tube or even the tube
and what ya doing in Armidale work? study?

grumble ·

or a stripped head stud in the case!

Hi
if its on the LHS... its usually the oil cooler or oil cooler seals that are leaking..
it drips down over the cylinders and the oil is then blown everywhere when you are driving...

You can take the fan shroud off with the engine still in the car.... I have done it ... its no fun though... lol

the doghouse oil cooler sits above number 3 cylinder
its located behind the fan shroud on the LHS...
If You stick your hand down there You will feel it...
You may even find some oil with your hand/fingers..
depending which way the oil came out of the oil cooler or seals..

I haven't heard of many oil coolers leaking in Australia..
it may be the seals which are easy to fit...

the other alternative would be the cylinder is loose which would also mean that the head is also loose on that side...

cheers

I'm studying at the uni, I actually just got a job at top pub down your way! don't start for a couple of weeks though, thanks for the help fellas, I didn't think it was a pushrod just because there is no oil leaking down there at all, it quite seriously is oozing out from the barrel where it seats into the case, no oil leaks from near the heads

RISKYBUG ·

ahh the top pub hey mmmmm beer 😀
well if it turns out to be the oil cooler i have some of the seals

It doesn't sound like a pushrod tube seal...
oil drips downwards... NOT upwards onto the cylinder..
and it doesn't normally pour out... just drips..

the leak its too high to be a pushrod tube...
