I've had the old-skool rubber supplied for my 67.. Do you need to fit the chrome piece at the same time as the rubber? or can you press it in later?

Let me know when yr doing it
I did a front screen the other day n took a good 2 hours to get it right
Looks blooody great I did have an assistant miss rosie LOL

Leave the rubber out in the sun for an hour or two before you start - it makes it softer and easier to manipulate onto the glass. Clean the glass edges with a nylon scourer and soapy water before you begin, as old glass usually has a dirt crust where the old rubber was.

Now that would make it too easy,,, lol
and Now You have found out why so many beetles don't have the bright aluminium strips in the windscreen rubbers
because its too darn hard....
but remembering that nothing is impossible....
it can be done...
it can be done
it can be done...
then take it to VW54 and let Him do it.... lol
I must admit I have only tried once...
I still have all My original rubbers hanging in the shed with the aluminium strips still in place.... lol
so maybe.... one day...

PS: Good to see Rose has her new windscreen in OK...

Fek u guys are a bundle of (conflicting) information.
It is booked into Boris on the 6th of April to have the glass installed and the 1500 windscreen wipers sorted out.. I am getting the glass made 1mm smaller all round (Boris's instructions).. I just want it back.. A bunch of fiddly bits left before a certain date in May.. If I don't make it this year.. I'm calling Simms
Mick058 ·
i want to get chrome bits done for mine too - let me know how you go with Boris.
rose ·
Boris does a good job fitting windscreens he fitted mine. And also was doing one with the crome in that I did help clean while I was down there the other week. Mr Birchalls assistant. 😂

Mick058 ·

Nah, im happy with the job, tops job and understand the hours - just like to know what sorta hours are involved in the chrome rubbers, so i know what im up for.
vw54 ·
well u have to have 3 sets of fingers 4 a start
the one i did the other day took 2 hours for the front screen and it sat PERFECT
if you have the ORIGIONAL VW Stainless trim its the best

I just got our local windscreen bloke to do mine - Tru-Blu windscreens. Didn't seem to have a lot of trouble - he had a special tool to open the rubber to get the strip in though.
