I must say after all the anticipation, waiting and the wheeling/dealing we finally took delivery of our new car today. The euphoria hasn't worn off yet, it will probably take several weeks to subside !

This is the VERY new Mark 6 Golf - Comfortline 118TSI - twin-charged 1.4 litre.

The only comment i can give is WOW !

colonel mustard 路

nice one. I find it funny that you are one of those people that takes photo's at the dealership 馃檪 makes me laugh.

nice new car though!!

haha welcome to the watercooled side of things,
your new baby looks hot. Hope to see you cruising around in it soon

cheers jess

jedidan 路

Actually our first ever watercooled VW ! Never dreamed of owning one since i always dabbled in the aircooled department.

I now have a new outlook (and a sense of belonging) towards the water pumpers.

I guess the photos at the dealership has the same significance as when you take a photo of your new-born in the hospital, it just
has to be done for posterity....i think its kinda cool. 50 years from now when this car is rare and worth squillions, the 'then' collector
would appreciate it had been done !

I just bought a MkV TDi Edition, whilst not as quick as your TSI, I know how you feel! Enjoy!

PS: I'll be interested to know how seamless the change between the supercharger and turbo is at 3000rpm - let us know!

As Jeremey Clarkson said, "As smooth as falling down some stairs" 馃槀

Dude, I want to see you run this at warwick..... 馃檪 hahah racing the ol' family mobile!
Twin charged seems like a great idea. I know noone in their mind would let a 19 Y/O drive their car, butI'd love to see what these feel like... Proabably a bit different to the ol' renisis powered beasts that I was driving a few months ago.

desh 路

I think they have pulled off another classic car with the new model Golf.

It looks fresh, new and up to date without getting away too much from the previous model,
It has evolved nicely,

You could park an example of each model Golf beside each other and see the heritage, the commitment to the model.

One of the things I like about the Golf's apart from the excellent build quality, the comfort, the steering, the power is the styling.

They are not just another whitegood on wheels, but they look like a Golf.

It's like with the old cars, you could spot a Holden from any viewpoint, a Beetle, a mini, a Morris, they looked different. A lot of new cars today just all look the same and are lifeless. They are built to serve a purpose, there is no passion in them.

I think you will be happy with your new car for years to come!

dAVo 路

Yeah VW definately has the styling down pat. I love the look of pretty much the entire range of new veedubs. Apart from maybe the new Beetle. Not really a fan at all though it'd be cool if my girlfriend got one.

Best of luck with the new car mate. I bet it's bloody nice to drive.

I hear what your saying.... its hard to tell the difference between a commo and a falcon from 100m these days...

Do all your cars have custom plates dan???

jedidan 路

Firstly, the car is damn nice to drive - you gotta be gentle on the accelerator pedal otherwise you would hit 100km/h very quickly...
and i mean QUICKLY. The car is soooo damn quiet that you gotta keep the stereo turned down to listen for the gear changes.
The sound dampening is incredible.

The twin chargers give incredible boost and it is instantly recognisable when they kick in, however the change from super to turbo is seamless.
Honestly, you wouldn't think ur driving a 1.4 litre.

It handles beautifully and it hugs corners with ease.
As i said to my wife earlier today " geeze honey, you could have easily taken that corner with 100" !!!

The instruction manual (which comes in a ring-bound 2inch thick folder) is warranted. there are so many adjustments and gadgets it would require a university degree to
operate them all (seriously though, it would take a few weeks getting use to)

The build quality is astonishing - i have never seen anything to date that is better - this includes high-end prestige models such as BMW or MERC !

Finally, the car just looks sublime - the lines are clean and it sits on the road nicely - the big 16inch alloys set it off nicely. It is just a natural digression
from the previous model and it will hold its place in the books as a classic. And i wholeheartedly agree with comments above - there is clearly HUGE evidence that
these were built with passion.

Though i have to take it easy driving it for the first 1500kms, its still so exhilarating to drive - i can't wait to hit the open roads and give it a good run.

Thanks all for your comments so far - I hope there will be a few more of you out there with one of these in their garage - and let me tell you, you won't be disappointed !

Hey, colonel, only 2 out of my 5 don't have custom plates - currently working on getting these. Options with Qld Transport are limited as most combos are taken, so its difficult to come
up with something unique or clever..

^^^ but definatly not a car.... :P

Get some random number plates.... jedi style? 馃檪

jedidan 路

jedi-style number plates should do the trick....

....it should bring a whole new meaning to : '...the force is strong in this one !"

As for driving it @Warwick - thats another hurdle called the 'wife' - she would kill me if i drove it on the track...

I could imagine the awesome figures it would pull though....i'll wait till the 'new car' novelty wears off and try it in a few years...

In the meantime i got a '76 standard that i'm putting togethor for Warwick........

colonel mustard 路

Nice. yell if you need anything that you saw @ my sale. of if you need a spare set of hands one day.

cheers - nice offer !

Hey, likewise as well......if you want that L-Bug of yours to run a little better with that 009 !

What did it cost you drive away mate if you don't mind me asking?

$35K , but we traded in our Subaru, so we were only out of pocket $15K.

What a brilliant car, hope you get many years of happiness out of it. I had a mate who bought a new brand new Jetta a couple of years ago. He had a P-plater run into him within 36 hours of picking it up - it didn't even have 100 km on the clock. Ouch !! It was fixed and is good as new now, but he was without it for three weeks while it was repaired. Touch wood no one will go near your beautiful Golf.

I hope we get more Aussie Veedubbers trading in their daily driver Subarus and Mazdas for new Golfs. There really shouldn't be any of this 'air v water' nonsense - they are all VWs and they are all good. Happiness is owning examples of both.

Phil74Camper wrote:Happiness is owning examples of both.
I couldn't agree more - I just need a bigger backyard now !

rob53 路

Very nice car, congrats! It's well worth the money. Did you get it with the park assist?
I test drove one on Saturday and was very impressed with it. If I had the money I would buy it then are there. The acceleration and comfort is amazing. I had a mk4 and it was fantastic, but the mk6 is on a whole new level.

Not knocking your car, I'd love to have one, but... I was just checking out the vw website and its says the 103kw version has 320Nm torque (same as the R32!), yet the 118kw version has "just" 240Nm. 25% less! But then I look at the brochure which says the 118/240 version is a whole 1.3 seconds quicker to the 103/320. The 90kw/200Nm version is just 0.2 seconds behind that. Hmmm I kinda dont believe just based on those figures. I guess the 118 version must have a lot flatter curve on the dyno graph. Or is VW calculating their performance figures in the marketing department to create niches for the different elements of the range?

oval TOFU 路

I just had the pleasure of driving a new (187kms on the clock) MkVI 2.0 TDI Golf today as my 'new' (3300kms) MkV 1.9TDI was in the shop for a warranty fix (nothing serious) and the new MK6 is definitely a step above the last model - you can hardly tell it's a diesel when it's idling, you can actually hear a hint of the turbo spool up, the door handles open the door more smoothly... at the risk of sounding cliche', the interior is more evolutionary than revolutionary - a lot of the switch gear is carried over from the MkV, but the centre console looks better (more 'techy' - probably a la Audi) as are the steering wheel buttons. I think the whole MkVI style is close the A3 to be honest... very nice to drive.... Dam you VW! Giving me the new model to drive! You could've let me drive something less attainable like a R36 Passat!

jedidan 路

amazeer, the figures quoted in my brochure says;

90TSI 1.4 litre turbo
90kW@5500rpm
200 Nm torque

118TSI 1.4 litre Super & Turbo charged (my model)
118kW@5900rpm
240 Nm torque

103TDI 2 litre turbo diesel
103kW@4200
320 Nm torque

From these figures the turbo diesel will naturally have MORE torque simply because its a diesel - this does not necessarily translate into MORE kW power.
This is the opposite with petrol engines - LOW torque, but heaps of kW. With the model i got, it has the added advantage of the 'twin chargers' which
would explain the huge boost in kW. Its also really difficult to compare these three in a line-up since they are worlds apart. A better
comparison would have made using the previous TSI model (Mark V) with the 2 litre engines.

So yes, simply put, these figures have been advertised to allow the buyer to make an informed decision on which model would suit him/her, but
not there in competition with each other.

I originally wanted the TDI model, however after a bit of interrogation from the salesman, he recommended the 118TSI model (cheaper) as it
would suit our lifestyle better, not because of price but with the amount of travel we did.

Hey Oval T, i agree with ur observation about the techy interior - its fabulous - like an iPhone on wheels ! never owned a golf before, but it
was certainly better valued and MUCH better equipped than our '06 Subi Forester we traded in.

Rob, we didn't opt for a lot of additions purely to keep the costs down - so, unfortunately no, we didn't get the park assist - but it is a VERY cool feature ! I think for a small car like this, it could almost be an overated feature !

All in all - both my wife and I are very happy 馃槈

oval TOFU 路

How many kms do you think you do a year Jedidan?

jedidan 路

probly clock up between 10000-12000kms per year

Bizarre 路

Do these Golfs come under the turbo laws??

The Tdi doesnt but things like the Saabs do

Same with insurance
My new Tdi Noob Beetle is cheap to insure
The GTI and GT wernt

Cause this car is efectively a Mk 5 Golf GT??

Phil74Camper 路

Volkswagen has applied for, and been given, some dispensation for the Golf 6:

http://www.caradvice.com.au/25350/volkswagen-golf-vi-gets-p-plate-okay-in-nsw/

I don't know about the insurance situation though - whether it costs more or not. It shouldn't as it's not a 'sporting' model like the GT and GTIs are.

jedidan 路

I'm insured with RACQ - and it was about $6 more expensive to insure than the Forester which was about $500 a year to insure.

colonel mustard 路

full comp..... ???
