If you mean 1600 to 1776,No you dont,to change to 1776 you just change the pistons and barrels, you can get the kits from george at classic veedub cheers shane.馃憤

1600 > 1640 yes
1600 > 1680 some
1600 > 1776 not going to happen without either machining or a BFH.
Joel 路
and the BFH method only comes with a 15ft or 5sec warranty
Pumba 路
I was told you could go to 1776,lucky i havent bought the parts yet??? whats a BFH method??? i just wanted to increase my 1600 in my kombi without all the dramas of machining cheers shane.
Bizarre 路
you can get slip in 1641 (87's) and 1679 (88's)
first machine is 1679 (88's) and 1776 (90.5's)
next is 1916 (94's)

Shane, BFH is everymans favorite tool...Big F**king Hammer
i personally wouldnt go slip in 88s in a kombi
cylinder walls are alot thinner so they do actually just "slip in" not ideal but can be gotten away with in a bug but a 1600ish type1 works hard in a kombi, best to avoid weak links
cost of machining the heads and case isnt much in the scale of things during a vw engine rebuild these days
