We have one at our work at the moment. A Silver 13B Road Pacer with column shift auto, bench seat in front, split system air conditioning with vents on the rear parcel shelf. All sorts of added gadgets. Very good condition, even has the original Mazda front windscreen with inbuilt antenna wire.

DUDEEEEEE. take some photo's. these are rare as anything. Probably the rarest mazda there is. I've never seen one, but think it would be amazing. Is it genuine? the real deal??? I know alot of guys that would be very interested to see it. (worked at mazda last year... was doing an apprenticship, not anymore... wanted an sa22c but now love bugs... thats me!)

does it have the FULL ON cloth interior?

These things looked soooooo much better than the holden. I can't believe that there is even one in the country.
Would love to see some pics.

There is not many in the country... Its not the best car... but its just very cool. be awesome to see a 20b in one.... probs be scary. Surprised no one has butchered one up that was non rotor.. just to be a sleeper or something.

amazeer ·

because they were slower than the 202 holden?

I'd much rather have an AMC pacer. Quirky looking, and completely different. Could be pretty scary to drive.. they came with up to a 5L V8 in a car roughly the same size as a beetle.

Joel ·

one of mazdas greatest flops

you;d think they learn after the first time

^^^^ that never came to Australia. And the roadpacer wasn't designed for the Aus market.

Hi

I saw one at Just Jap in "The shire"

Mazda make some cool cars from time to time, like the old Mazda 1500 sedan & wagon http://www.mazda.com/mazdaspirit/greatcar/p8.html and the old 929 that looked like it was designed by Jaguar.

The best thing I can say about this is that Mazda has to pay Volkswagen a royalty on every Wankel engine (to use its correct name) they make, since Felix Wankel's design was patented by NSU, where he worked (Volkswagen owns NSU). The NSU Wankel Spider was the first production car to have a Wankel engine in 1964, three years before the Mazda Cosmo.

Recent Volkswagens and Audis have actually used tiny Wankel engines - in their seat belt pretentioner systems. Small explosive cartridges are triggered electrically and the resulting pressurized gas feeds into tiny Wankel engines which rotate to take up the slack in the seat belt systems, anchoring the driver and passengers firmly in the seat before a collision. See http://www.google.com/patents?vid=USPAT5485970&id=N6QhAAAAEBAJ&dq=5485970

Chris - did you know that the AMC Pacer was designed around a GM Wankel engine? The 1973 oil crisis scratched that idea, so they made do with convential AMC 6 and 8 cylinder engines. You ride like a Pacer when you're wide like a Pacer.

There is one for sale in the car museum / sale place under the harbor bridge. i forget the name of the auto shop but it has a cafe and posters and cars and lots of ex race cars and exotics etc.

yeah I have seen a couple here and in UnZud, cool car - quite different to the Holden. ie: it was more than just a Holden shell with a Mazda engine, Mazda put a fair bit of extra work into the design. Japan-only model and they only built around 4-500. Didn't sell very well... almost all were driven my Mazda and Sumitomo execs

type3kid ·

just checked the classic throttle Shop page. they had one a month or so ago but it's gone now.

not my cup of tea but there are worse out there

This one is chassis number 778, so they made at least that many.
