WTF??? Sorry if I steered you in the wrong direction but 81 and 82 are the exact same block. Doesn't the flywheel fit? What year is your 81?

inlet and exhaust manifold same but different adaptor 81 is pushrod and 82 is ohc

Bizzare. 82 is the same block, you can even see the spot where the 81's cam area was 'filled in' at the factory to make the 82. Subaru will even confirm this. Some early 81's had a different bellhousing, but the block itself is identical to the 82. Maybe the early bellhousing had a different bolt pattern on the block but I've never seen one.

believe me they are different mine is an 81 model ea82 adaptor completely different would foul on sump
