Wondering what the maximum towing load is for the splitty. Soon the boat will be finished and I will have to get it down to the water. The boat and trailer should weigh about 1500kg. I am going to rebuild the type 4 motor in the kombi and there is a type 4 gearbox in it as well.
Cheers Tom

My major concern would be brakes. Have you got an electric system on the trailer? I am sure it will pull it (not that I would want to try a hill start at a set of lights mind you), it is primarily the stopping I would worry about personally.

Mmm Farrier Tri and kombi 8-).....I've towed many miles with air cooled type 2's, but a baja on a light car trailer with a 1600 twin carb, nonassisted brakes, dualy with 3 adults was certainly 'interesting'. Bris to Syd Nats 1988.....22hrs :-)

I also took a trip from Brisbane down the Snowy's in my '72 superbeetle with 4 adults and a 6 by 4 box trailer on the back ... not something I would do now though ... young and crazy🤓
Not as adventurous as you Matt 🙅

The tri trailer has hydraulic brakes.

yep ray your right, tom put some sand bags in the split then take it over the weighbridge😂

Also make sure the tow hitch on the kombi is rated for that weight.

short trips should be ok
as for tow ball not a worry at 1500kg's most are rated at 2500 kg and good ones at 3500 kg's
id be more worryed about the tow bar on the kombi

and in the case of many 4 wheel drive it's more
the old man's 100 series landcruiser is rated at 3500kg which is more than 1000 kg heaver then the car
