Super bug bonnet

Hi all, new to the beetle scene. i had a beautiful 78 kombi camper for 10 years but have sold it and taken on a new (read mamoth and costly) project. i found a 1974L superbug convertable in a old farm shed and have got it to road worthy and registered state but it is proving to be very much a bitsa!!with lots of stange bits on it.

firstly the bonnet doesn't seem to fit properly. one side sits nice the other is about 20mm high. someone has said that it is standard beetle bonnet. is there a difference between the standard and super bonnets ?

Totally

A 74L (well 73L to 75L) bonnets are very rounded compared to standard bonnets

There are 2 sorts of L bug bonnets
The rounded one


and the square cut

I will find a pic but basically the same

A standard beetle is much more pointed
It will not fit a super beetle at all

there was a few changes along the way with the 1500,superbug and L bug bonnets,sometimes it is only a bad adjustment that makes them fit badly,other times it is the wrong lid fitted. I would try an adjustment before getting too radical. cheers

YES,
there are NON Super beetle bonnets early and late
and 1302S Superbug with flat windscreen and the 1303S super beetle 1973-1975 [called an L beetle in Australia]

the L beetle bonnet is much shorter than the 1302S Superbug and the L beetle bonnet does NOT have any vents in it... the vents are in the body in front of the windscreen...

the top of the 1/4 windows in the doors should be flat on a Karmann beetle....
just wondering whether someone made this car by cutting off the roof..

as 1303S convertibles are VERY RARE in Australia....

it would be an Lbug bonnet just very badly out of alignment on one side

standard bug and Sbug bonnets wont fit it to start with

thanks guys for your help. no it is not an original convertable it has a letter of compliance for the roof from QUT in brisbane. the rof is cut just behind the 1/4 vents. have already played around with the adjustments without much luck. there is some welding and repair work inside the bonnet around the nose and drivers side front. guess the wouldn't help either. i am pretty sure it is a 74 L as it has a curved screen and the chassis number - 13427.....

Why cant people show there location!! State will do but Suburb good. Am sure you wont be stalked. I actually have a couple of bonnets and gonna throw them soon as have too much junk. But without location not sure if wasting my time telling you. Anyway if anyone needs one pm me
