Reub , if you race it , to me more the better (motor make does'nt matter ) . Andra covered cars first becouse they are a real drag car ,but Rego cars like Rods (48ida) fit becouse they run 12.99 or quicker so you could enter a ANDRA meeting .
Imagine a race meeting with all comers from around Australia ( Vw Drag Nationals ) 😀
Daimo ! how fast was your bug , I could work out about over quarter mile . Mate get to work on that other bug or Type 3 might make it .

mike waldron will also be driving his beetle N/A by next yr as well as dave stoker's, well as long as time and money permits. we're basically down to little fiddlies and paint.
Also i dont know if this counts, as it probably wont get ito the 12's till early next year, its a build in progress with intention of drag racing, but my car will be at warwick this yr with a few little developments and then hopefully at portland with many more 👍😁😁

Red Back Used to race against the hot4 back aournd 2000 at AIR. Not sure if it was autocraft powered, or just a set of autocraft heads.

Pete..Hotdog would certainly be appropriate but I couldn't destroy all the hand painted signage that a good mate did
some19 years ago.The signage is still in pristine order. The majority of signwriting these days is computerised vynil cut out.
HOUNDOG...trivia. Was named such as it had its head down,backside up,tail out & was a bitch of a thing to hang onto.

I haven't made a lot of headway in the last 12 months.Bought a lot of parts in the States last year and have fitted/modified where most are going.Pulled the heads from the engine to fit the new Pro Series ones,and found the cylinders were U/S,so decided to strip the engine fully.Found the case needs line boring and the joining faces need machining.I will now buy a new Turbo grind camshaft and a new set of Pauter pistons and cylinders.Have cc'd the heads tonight and the chambers are 50cc.I bought 4 new Drag Slicks from the States in May and they have turned up,so have fitted the fronts,but have the rear rims away being polished.I have fitted the race seat and the belts,dry sump tank,front beam narrowed with adjusters,steering box overhauled,new king and link pins and bushes,dropped spindles,steering wheel quick release etc.I am using a standard VW auto gear shifter,but have modified it so that it won't go from "D" to "N" without lifting the lever- just so I can't accidently slip it into neutral.I am just finishing a VW type engine stand,so will be starting on the Auto Trans rebuild/modifications in the next few weeks.I have all the gear to rebuild the diffmyself,but I am sending the Auto to a Trans bloke.I have found a better body to use,and have started to cut some of the rust out,but have decided to get the rust and metal work done by a panel bloke ,and I will paint it.I just don't have the time any more to do it all-hence the slow progress.

2nd hand crap $200 T3 turbo, bone stock 380K engine, modded K-jet, slipping clutch (& wheels), open diff setup.
13.7 @ nearly 102mph in full street trim, full weight.
Only its 3rd run out since being built too!!!
Was hoping to test the new setup before Portland, but its not looking good
New setup - New Garrett T3/4, ported head, fresh engine (still stock rods & pistons), more modded K-Jet, drag spec solid centred metal "pain in the arse" clutch, locked diff, MSD 2 step.
Still full street trim & full weight. Would like to run deep into the 13's (maybe high 12) @ 104-106mph. time will tell!!!!

Heres some vids I've done when it was first going & then testing the MSD 2-Step on the old stock setup & then some more with the new setup.
The new setup vids are black & white.
As its no longer my daily (which has been replaced with a 520+hp Holden Ute) I wound the mixtures up pig rich, threw some more boost at it along with some timing & it can turn the tyres shifting into 3rd on dry hotmix! Has turned the tyres past 100 on several occasions now too!
I know they are only 165's, but who give a s%$t, Wheel spin in the dry at 100 is still wheel spin! Especially in the 1976 FWD VW!
The K-Jet mods are basically sourcing & testing all sorts of different components from all sorts of Euro cars, both NA & FI, using different sorts of Warm up regs, playing with the System pressures, adding in extra staged injectors (cold start valves, as I wanted it to be full K-Jet & not EFI controlled extra injectors).
Then playing with different sorts of timing retard components. eg. like reversing the vac advance on the dizzy to run at full advance at idle & as soon as you sniff the throttle it pulls timing out of it.
Thats how I had it when it was running 10psi & had no dramas.
Now it runs a MSD 6BTM (boost retard) setup. I should really get a new MSD 6AL2 digital & have total control over the timing advance & retard, but I'd rather save the money for the next engine, which will be a properly built engine with top notch components & much much bigger turbo, instead of this slap together "garage hone", re-ringer engine! You should see how much play is in the piston-bore clearance & even the valve guide clearance!!!!
Buts its lasted so far & hasn't put a foot (or leg out of bed!) wrong yet!
Would like to get it to Heathcote on the 30th to test the new setup before Portland, but I don't think I'll risk it with only a few weeks to go. Can't be stuffed having to rebuild another car in a short amount of time.

Here's my complete turbo build thread from the original turbo setup, to the engine rebuilt & new T3/4 setup with all the tuning, testing & breaking stuff along the way.
Its all been built, rebuilt (incl. head/manifold porting etc) & tuned at home by myself with alittle bit of help from some friends.
The only things not built in house were a couple of the braided fuel lines for the extra injectors & the exhaust from the dump pipe back. Also had the cyl. head resurfaced too.

Bernie is the man. Andrew Ermel had a contact for him but has since lost it, possibly Rod Penrose may have something.

Bernie got the nickname " Sanchez " because of some of his antics when we were all in Mexico in 09. Sanchez is a FIFO fitter in the top of WA and has put the car on hold for a while. Last time I spoke to him he had everything need to get the car going- but he needed professional help.

Ha ha! Couple of months... Someone had a dig at the old one not being turbo.. I can't remember who. If it was true to form the signature thing should have gad no box, wheels or engine and the wing in a box on the roof! for a good 3 or 4 months now!

Here is a video from back then, somewhere around 1991 , it was VW powered and turboed if I remember correctly. This was during the IVWA days , the next two guys racing were Todd Howard and Tommy Tanner , lots of fond memories, Mike McCarthy

I think I'll change the list around abit ( 12.99 or quicker for street cars ) and purpose built drag car ( 12.99 quicker & ANDRA Car ) or being built .

Yes Pete, last year he ran at VW Showdown @ WSID and ran 12.99 @ 103mph on street tyres ( NA with 139hp @ the wheels ) ..... Deans bug was then fitted with bigger heads , exhaust etc and made 166hp @ the wheels when he ran 8.1 at Warwick 2012 on street tyres ..... and apparently 166hp @ the wheels is not enough !! so we have now turbo-charged his bug for the VW drags @ WSID 2013 , with 256hp @ the wheels on just 8psi boost🤪🤪

Dragster runs my signature 2332cc with 48 IDAs. Engine is mounted behind the driver with gearbox out the back (like a Vee). An extension between the rear slicks joins the box and motor.

Ron hasn't started his car in 8 years.... It's currently sitting in a container at his old workshop, the engine is sitting in the back of the shop.... Ron ran deep into 11's.

Motha has the mark 1(i think) golf turbo that has runs some pretty quick numbers. Last couple of posts on his thread the engine was suffering ill health.

It would be good to see some of the newer or older drag cars that may be in temporary retirement or that aunt finish , clean the dust off them and bring out for a static display at the drag events , they would make for some good eye candy for the spectators and also people love talking about vW.
