DOWNERPOWER ·

how do you determine the difference between the 1700,1800 and 2.l engine

barls ·

the engine number will tell you what it started out at but the only real way is to pull down and measure the bore size and crank.

DOWNERPOWER ·

thanks

If the engine has not been modified, these were the engine number prefixes:

CA/CE - 1700
AP - 1800
CJ - 2000

The engine number is stamped on the fan shroud, but remember the fan shroud can be removed and may not be the original one that came with the engine. The actual engine number is stamped on the case, but you need to take off the fan shroud to see it. Normally they match, but by now most of them probably don't.
