its a brand new vintage disc kit been on oh maby 4 months maby driven twice. These are self adjusting arnt they? we are running a later duel master cylinder any ideas supposed to be taking the bug for wine tasting in two weeks, wont the discs get hot?

Hi Deon

Do you have enough freeplay on the master cylinder pushrod?

Steve

vw54 ·

the drag is caused by the pressure not releasing

Seeing you havethe new brakes then you have new rubber brake lines

so as per Steve above you must not have enough free play in the master cyclinder

have you adjusted the wheel bearings correctly are they binding ??? remove the caliper and see if you can spin the wheel freely

silver ·

yep I found that I had to adjust the push rod at the brake pedal, same kit, same M/C

VWCOOL ·

new brakes wil have *some* drag until the pads/discs bed in to each other but as mentioned by others, check the brake pedal pushrod for 1-2mm clearance

sgetty ·

ok will do apreciate the responces

sgetty ·

is this what i need to do?

RISKYBUG ·

yup might have to bring it back a little
or just oil up the breaks 🤓

vw54 ·

have you checked the bearings to see if there too tight ???

start there first make sure the wheel rotates correctly without brakes

RISKYBUG ·

if it's tight on both sides it would be the breaks
but like vwcool says it could be new pads?

Yes - and at the same time, check your bearings like Dave said, it could be a combination of tight brakes and tight bearings

skelaaleks ·

does your master cylinder have residual valves *spelling* in it? if so theyshould be removed as they are ment for drum brakes to stop the brake fuild coming back when you take your foot off the pedal.

ive had this problem when installing a bigger master cylinder out of a different car.

the person who put this kit on would know how tight the bearings should be so it would be most likely just new pads but check the free play

sgetty ·

yeah he would! checked the free play and took it for a good run on the weekend seems better maby it was just "bedding in" but i did adjust freeplay a little

kb_ara ·

thats correct drum brake cyclinders are designed to retain a tiny amount of pressure if its not a disc brake master get rid of it.........
