Fuel Filter advice?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/77640/fuel-filter-advice

Hi,
I have basically gathered that to put a fuel filter in the engine bay of a beetle is asking for trouble, so my question is, where do I put it?
I had it inline, above the rear axle, but this stopped fuel flow (air lock?).

Advice?

I have them under the fuel tank and above the rear axle no trouble.

Alright. I have an inline ryco filter, i'll see if i can get it as close to the fuel tank as i can...
Thanks.

no buy the plastic one from your local VW supplier there quality and work well for the price
as Ian said under the tank or under gearbox

DONT put them in the engine bay always keep on the gravity side of the tank no problems with hoses blowing off or like that

If you carnt get in QLD get from Vintage in Sydney buy 2 or 3 then u can change every 12 months and not have any problems

come'on birch, plastic and quality dont go together when talking filters
they're only rock catchers, metal EFI filters work much better

josh beside the gearbox works fine
i just dont like it as if the filter catches a rock its right near hot exhaust still, but it will catch any shit that comes from the metal line in the tunnel

under the tank works well me and worked well for VW when they actully started using inline filters

the filter will never be completly full if its towards the back of the car
if you were getting air locks with the filter at the back then you got other dramas like a clogged metal line or similar

that shouldn't have caused an air lock??

when you put it under the tank..
if you have the tank out..
watch the hose to see it doesn't kink..
they mostly do...
so a longer piece of hose is better so it doesn't kink
when the tank is put back in...
and cut off the fuel...

a long piece of hose under my sbug tank was the cause of my kink! it took 2 weeks to find out what was wrong when the hose new it was fine then as it got older it pushed down on it's self and cut off my fuel
