Just wondering if anyone can recomend somewhere to get a 4 wheel alignment done on a 1302 super. Preferably not too far from eastern suburbs. The last place I took it didnt know how to adjust the rear.....

East Coast Suspensions in kirrawee. http://www.eastcoastsuspensions.com.au. These guys used to do all the Hellbug cars and Geoff Morgans porsche cup cars. I used to drive all the way from Wollongong because everyone down in this hick town thinks all VW's have K&L front ends so they only adjust the toe. I got sick of showing people ball joint eccentrics.

Ended up getting east coast suspensions to do the car, Very happy with the result. Worth paying the extra money for a proper job!

another great place is Spinning Wheel in Alexandria/Waterloo👍

Still on the topic, its worth pointing out that most of the places I rang told me they couldn't adjust the rear toe or camber on an irs beetle. I know camber isnt hugely adjustable I now have perfectly even camber on both sides without too much trouble, so it can be done. It was about a degree or more different each side when i went in.
I cant overstate how much better the car drives now with a proper wheel alginment rather than the old toe and go.

It helps to have the ride height level side-to-side when you go there, too!

Yeah, I played around with it before i took it in, within .5 cm side to side. Im happy with that without adjustable spring plates. Looked like it was out more than that until the camber was set.

Good work, 5-8mm is about the minimum adjustment available

Had my old girl wheel aligned today - ball joint beam.
The bloke seemed to know what he was about and claimed that the lower ball joints in my car are fixed and not concentric. I take you can still get them?
This means he was not able to get castor right.
Front Specs:
Castor: L +1'20 R +3'27
Camber: L - 1'07 R - 1'08
Toe: L +0.7 R +0.7 for total of 1.4mm
Rear Specs:
Camber: L -3'50 R -3'58
Toe: L +0.8mm R + 2.8mm
So should I go to the effort of getting the concentrics in?
Or just bite the bullet and take it to East Coast?
SuperOwen, what was the damage for a wheel alignment from them?
Does anyone have a good spec for a ball joint beam - road car, IRS, enthusiastic touring type driving.
Any thoughts Terry

You sure he knows 'what he is about'? 🙅 Camber/caster is adjusted at the upper balljoints, not the lower. There is only very small scope for adjustment; it is there to correct any minor accident/impact damage. It is possible to get more 'peformance friendly' specs but not without spending time, effort and $.

Take your top arms out and bend them in a press. You'll need to bend them a long way because they are very springy. I think east coast did my kombi arms and I did my own type 3 arms. Mark an outline of the arms on your bench. From memory I think I bent mine about 10mm from std. You'll probably spend a lot of time going back to the bench finding you havent done anything, depends how brave you are I guess.

So the bottom ones are fixed. Good to know - thanks VWCool
So I know that I need to really take it to someone who knows. Perhaps they will correct the rear as well.
Does anyone have a spec that works well - or will the places above have a known set of parameters? Terry

I guess all roads keep pointing to East Coast. Better pootle across to see them then eh 😎

whats the damage at east coast???
spdterence ·
Up to $250 was the indication.
They work on time. Could be as low as $100 - up to $250.
Hmmmmmmm

Talk to Doug at Heasmans Steering at St Peters, bean around for along time, a no dodgy laser wheel aligment, good all mechanical setup
spdterence ·
Thats a good idea. I have spoken to him on another topic. eibach and bilstein combos for my wifes weekender. He was a very decent bloke. Good suggestion. Terry

Speak to Paul or Gus at Hornsby Wheel Alignment 9476 5772....they set up my vw's
SuperOwen ·
East coast was about $200 for the full alignment. Id happily recommend them.

Was that front and rear?.
East coast do have a very good reputation.👍
