Here is my speed from Telstra Broadband at Home (NSW 2030)..
This is better than I get at work on Telstra (NSW 2020)..
I'd be interested to see results from others:

I am paying for 512K Broadband with download 0.44 and upload 0.11 with a ping of 73.
Sorry but does that mean my internet is poor? Is it slow? Do I need to ring my ISP?
All beyond my limited knowledge but would love to have it exaplined in laymans.

Well 512 k is a bit small as far as download bandwidth goes. and 0.44 and 0.11 is very slow thats all i can tell you.

My internet is the fastest lol , try beat that!
LOL jokes, it's a forged image.

I seem to be one of the only ones using unwired.Have not had a landline for 8 years now so was at that time only choice available. I like it but jeez it is slow sometimes as I am in a suburb that gets very poor reception from there satelite. I reckon if they had spent some money on better satelites they would have got more customers. But cant complain as it is like my Kombi. takes its time sometimes but always gets there and continues to work even if I have used my limit.
you wouldnt want to be with Dodo right now. Check out the forums on whirlpool.net.au. Plenty of pissed off customers.

I think it may only be relevant for those with ADSL 2?? That's meant to be really fast but can be dependent on a lot of factors including the quality (or lack of) the ISP. (Telstra.....).
So how does ADSL2+ perform in the real world?
You don't live in a laboratory, so it's quite true that the various factors listed above will reduce your performance from the 'ideal' shown in the above graph.
Hence, in December 2006 we took a random sample 7,305 Internode Extreme® ADSL2+ broadband services. Each service was connected to an Internode DSLAM and using the ADSL2+ protocol (G992.5 Annex A ADSL2+ over POTS). We found the following distribution:
13.4% achieve a download synch speed of higher than 20 Mbps
27.7% achieve a download synch speed of between 15 Mbps and 20 Mbps
22.1% achieve a download synch speed of between 10 Mbps and 15 Mbps
23.0% achieve a download synch speed of between 5 Mbps and 10 Mbps
13.8% achieve a download synch speed of less than 5 Mbps
So over 63% of these customers are achieving 10 Mbps download synch speed or better ...... and that's why we call it Extreme®!
I used to be with Dodo dial up but haven't looked back since moving to Internode (an Adelaide company 😎).
EDIT it probably don't mean much of your computer is painfully slow (ie mine).
Just a rule of thumb with internet speeds.
If you pay for 512k you should max out at about 51Kb/s Download
If you pay for 1.5Mb you should get about 150Kb/s Download
If your on ADSL2 your speeds depend on your distance from the telephone exchange
ADSL2 normally ranges from 1Mb to 23Mb which = a download of 100Kb/s and 2300Kb/s (2.3Mb/s) respectively.
As a rule of thumb, upload on both adsl1 and 2 normally maxes at 1mb 100Kb/s but this is dependent on the ISP (some isp's like internode allow you to boost this to 3mb and telstra where they restrict upload to 64K) and the distance from the exchange can also effect this.

I'm guessing you're on a 512kb down/128kb up plan.
0.44Mb/sec is around 450kb/sec. So you're paying for a theoretical lab condition maximum 512kB/sec down and 128kB/sec up, and getting 450kB/110kB odd.
Not at all slow, actually probably as fast as you can expect in real world conditions for that bandwidth, so you're definitely getting what you pay for.
Ping just tells you how long it takes (in milliseconds) to send a packet of data (around 1 to 1.5kb) to an IP address and receive a packet back in response. Ignore ping unless you're a gamer. Ping your ISP (bigpond.com or whatever), then aussieveedubbers.com a few times from your command prompt, and you'll see a HUGE variation in response time.

EDIT No2 - I'm on 1500kps not 512.
Chairs.
Just like to point out that your computer has very little to do with your internet speed. in fact, there is a guy somewhere who hacked a commodore 64 to run as a server, which streams mp3s!
That may be true under normal circumstances, but when your computer chokes everytime you click on something and you get the old not responding thing all the time (not to mention the runtime errors) then I don't think it matters what your connection speed is. It just won't co-operare 😬 Time for a new laptop methinks. 🥷
