brief yes but feel free to ask questions as i go along, hopefully some decent stuff happening real soon
More updates later! (again not much time to post but ill try my best)
UPDATE/ what im doing outline
aim - street rego'd track capable arse kicking super! (ive told a mate ill go out to a drift night at qld raceway & have a go-dont laugh if i fail miserably)
suspension:
V-force adjuster struts
camber/caster tops
all new urethane bushings
rebuilt steeringbox - i can do yours if you like
new balljoints /tie rod ends
flipped outer tie rods from Brad (topline kit)
28mm torsion bars -more of a rough guess from other conversions
height adjuster from custom vee dub so i can raise/lower 4" easily - better than adjustable spring plates
urethane springplate bushings
I think that covers that part
Trans:
091 based box
LanD intermediate housing - to fit a bug nose cone, fits better & shifts better apparently, im yet to prove this, never driven a bus
eventually a bunch of albins gears but not enough time/$$ currently
RJES bellhousing - provided i suss out placement of a clutch mc < thats progressed to the point where its cut & weld time for people that are curious
also on the wish list is moly output flanges cv's axles & stubs
Brakes:
VWCOOLS kit
EA/EB falcon rears i believe
custom front hubs - Vwcool
5x114.3 stud pattern
all made for ease of replacment consumable parts
all standard vw bearings & seals
standard ford discs & pads who can complain about that?
calipers on the front are vr ish era commodore, may change to something else after testing how they work
using a 24mm kombi master, again need to play around making it fit with a hydraulic clutch mc, again may change this to bug, its all trial and error to get effective braking &decent pedal feel
Engine...
sti dub wouldnt be STIdub without a subie would it?
what else... umm interior im yet to even start on but typical buckets, gauges & such, yet to dive into the electrics side of things
Body...
71 superbeetle, we know what they look like
aero guards from vvds
clear lenses on early lights
76> front bumper with indicators
ugly elephant foot tail lights - ive never seen a mass produced part made so poorly
inverted firewall shortly & widened inner guards under rear guards (see westi's work on micks 58 for the guard work)
wheels...
Pre au falcon - so wheels to suit xa-el falcon wheels, the offset is +6, au> is +36 as are most late jap cars, finding low offset wheels is VERY difficult, finally picked up the set pictured
look similar to a set you can get for 911's so i cant complain 😀
i would of liked 18s but these shall do for now, beggers cant be choosers, also anything under a 17" looks rediculously small under aeros so dont bother if your considering going this route 🙂
i think thats enough for now... any questions ill be happy to answer, yes even $$$ if you want to build similar & would like an idea (im my own minister of war & finance!)
hope someone finds this interesting, i spent awhile typing so appreciate dammit! 😂

Looking good dude! More pics!!!! 🙂
STIDUB ·
booked in at custom vee dub in a few weeks for a lil magic to be preformed, more updates then... not expecting much else between now & then thats all (the womans 21st this week, diverting fun money to her for a lil bit)
Im intending on making up my own pedals / modifying the originals to suit the different location of the brake mc & making a pushrod/pivot for the clutch mc to suit, thats the easy bit, squeezing another MC onto that bulkhead is going to be cosy....
STIDUB ·
ps, im hoping for a nice set of dished 18x8 &10s for it eventually, from calculations they should just squeeze under the guard if offset is PERFECT, not holding my breath though. the 8s on the front might not give quite enough room for steering so may have to find some 7s but im sure i can live with them for now
STIDUB ·
economy stimuls because of the cost lee, 3k a corner rough figures for suspension brakes wheels - roughly split between each corner for the combo of all the components, scared yet? cant take the $$$ with ya & who knows how long your here for right? will be more pic worthy once my pan is rolling, 4 week wait for the bit i need next will probably kill me but i have the bolt on bits to play with still, might get some work done to the body while the floor is empty aswell 🙂
STIDUB ·
my apologies sir 😂
anyway, i forgot to put the words with the pic, im curous why nobody has done a clutch setup like this before? you can mod pedals to suit so why hasnt something so simple in fitment been done before?
colonel mustard ·
resize resize!!!
66deluxe ·
3k a corner man thats too much i did mine with porsche 944T brembo set up for way less than that.
STIDUB ·
including brakes & suspension, new joints bushings, bracing, wheel tyre & guard with lights to suit? i didnt just mean suspension & brakes....
actually, im curious what a beam front end is like to rebuild compared to a strut front end cost wise...
say to go from a stock standard worn out hunk of junk to all new totally adjustable - excluding labour, can anyone share?
STIDUB ·
oh yeah, the other reasons for going falcon was the stud pattern is 1000000x less restrictive & if you can find a set of porsche pattern wheels for under 1k that have the correct offsets & width to suit stock or widened guards id love to hear about it, searched for a very long time everywhere i could think of, every setup didnt quite fit right or used spacers & the actual sizing info wasnt all that easy to find anyway, personally i hate spacers & would rather get wheels that fit right by themselves, see where im coming from? 🙂
by the way, hows your 66 going? i havent seen updates on it for ages now...
STIDUB ·
^^^ from the thread on germanlook, anyone ever considered setting up a hydraulic clutch mc & brake like that layout on the pans bulkhead? the kombi mc doesnt really fit upright but the bug one would with the correct orientation... anyone know a good source for adapter fittings for brake lines & T peices to suit vw size fittings but with one male & 2 female fittings? will probably go hunting around for some tomorrow after work either way.
12 days till i have rear suspension that winds up & down almost as easy as my struts 😀
polak ·
iv been flirting with the idea of a hydraulic clutch for ages but never had the time to just sit down and nut it out.....great to see someone out there having a go, cant wait to see how yours come out!!
colonel mustard ·
polak wrote:iv been flirting with the idea of a hydraulic clutch for ages but never had the time to just sit down and nut it out.....great to see someone out there having a go, cant wait to see how yours come out!!
I had a feeling that CBB made a kit if you were using a standard setup, ready to just bolt in?? obviously no good for dave, but good for anyone using a stock setup..
STIDUB ·
Cheers polak, the only thing different between this & a normal bug/kombi clutch is the direction the hydraulics make the T/O bearing & shaft rotate, the standards have more room to play with for how their pan head is shaped & the body above, the downside being the tunnel ahead of the pan/body join flares out, that may cause a problem, other than that the pedal end would be useful for any style clutch in your bugs, germanlook has more info, steve carter likes the idea too, looking to have this bit sorted out by this time next week, then soon after all cut & welded in.
ps Thought i should mention that the fuel line exit in that area needs to be swapped to the LHS of the tunnel to clear the clutch mc, also a remote res MUST be used because of the wheel well brace in strut fronts 🙂
STIDUB ·
updating, no pics of it though, ordered RJES bellhousing, paypal conversion hurts 😢 hopefully have some nice pics when it arrives 😀
...on that note, think i might have to go buy an engine crane
colonel mustard ·
When is the pan going to custom...?
STIDUB ·
when i have clean clothes to leave the house in😊 washing day was pushed back one more for action day & mt cotton, hi to mustard & sides since ive now met you both 👍
STIDUB ·
postphoned the adjuster, stupid daily has S**T its waterpump & excuse the saying for those that are offended, pissing like a pregnant chick, that said im having a moment of weakness & considering asking Mr butler to make me a nice shiny bulletproof 091 with more suitable gearing... after going to mt cotton yesterday.... i wanna flog the daylights out of it asap 😁
STIDUB ·
caution for all those that consider it, talking to DB is not good for persuading you not to make a tough box 😂
trickysimon ·
Wish I didn't know that feeling 😂
STIDUB ·
yeah, ive been perving on your box simon, hope you dont mind 😂 saves driving super super grandma like when your car is together though hey? the way i see it, that makes it better in the long run, & while i dont have a floorpan i may as well see if i can get the box done at the same time, then ive got the body to sort out while its feeling lonely in the garage, will see what happens though
oooh the thoughts of knowing the box is awesome is seriously appealing...
oh & db u have pm with the details from the convo 😁
STIDUB ·
gotta love things like this, chat to rod penrose earlier, HI again when you read this, looking at going the 930 cv's etc, loking forward to chatting at warwick, on a good note, the tow car/daily is fixed & i can get my pan to custom on my next day off, nothing else better go wrong!
on a side note, if anyones doing a similar setup, talk to rod, im looking at saving alot of $$$ going through him for parts i need
colonel mustard ·
so, from my visit this morning, this chap is stimuating the economy, and making me feel like i need a second, nay - 3rd job just to be able to buy the parts that he isnt using that i need....... a scary garage of parts and go fast goodies. lots of ideas to be had if your building a go fast super. 🙂
STIDUB ·
gotta love parts tracking online, the bellhousing is in brissy, after 13hrs awol, shame ill have to wait all weekend for it to be sent out to me, awesome timing with my RDO monday though 👍
STIDUB ·
customveedub here i come! well tomorrow anyway, floorpan all ready to go for a lil magic to happen 😀
STIDUB ·
pan at custom, bellhousing.... sitting at the airport... waiting for stupid customs to sort their shit out, if its this hard gettin legit stuff into the country i wonder how bulk drugs compare 😬
nude strut floorpan for those that like superbeetle porn 🙂
colonel mustard ·
yay.... 12 weeks left! 🙂
STIDUB ·
bellhousing sitting at brissy airport stilll... seriously not impressed by DHL... waiting waiting waiting😬
STIDUB ·
lil bit of clean shell to look at, nothin special, thought it looked cool tho
Hmm.... finally the package has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ITS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
colonel mustard ·
nice 🙂 gearbox is going to be awesomeeeee!
the darkside ·
good luck with it ,ive had one of richards bell housings in my race car for 3 yrs now 🙂
STIDUB ·
update again, just bellhousing stuff, not sure if anyone here is interested, have a link to here on VWKD now though for the umm... wet types
bellhousing size differences
wrong arm... gotta find one ive never seen before, its more square & has a ball on the end & its a VW/AUDI part, waiting on email back from RJES about this
Me thinks this is going to need a blanket around it, & possibly some shrouding around the slaves bracket
Oh & if theres no pic's tomorrow feel free to hurl abuse my way, the other 1/2 has volunteered to help drill the mounting holes for the guards, the battery for drill is on charge, i have the bits & files, shiny stainless bolts & washers around here somewhere too...
1303Steve ·
noice
colonel mustard ·
good stuff. keep to photo's happening 🙂
colonel mustard ·
also, sorry that i can't be of use in the next 2-3 weeks, assessment is just hardcore currently. but next month will have a few more spare days.
STIDUB ·
lunch break 😀
colonel mustard ·
lunch? just finish it! ha. which pan are you using currently>?
STIDUB ·
pan? what pan, its a flintstones mobile currently 😀
the darkside ·
the clutch arm is just a t3/t25 one
STIDUB ·
Yeah, Richard let me know earlier this morning. Thanks anyway though. I've got no idea where the hell I'm gonna find one locally. Will find out monday. Wish me luck!
the darkside ·
did you go with a new input shaft aswell?
STIDUB ·
certainly did 👍 no point doing things by halves now is there?
considering what else is going into the gearbox it would of been pointless to leave the standard splined one in there
the idea is bulletproof & made to look like its supposed to be there not just butchered into fitting 🙂
the darkside ·
cool,i normally try anything breakable for richard just to see if i can,and i havnt yet😂 and ive tried it with a 4puck prodrive sti rally clutch.
20bkombi ·
Hi there guys, good to see another project on the way.
I havn't done a manual subaru convertion, just want to know why you can't use the standard input shaft? is the bellhousing to long?
Keep up the progress.
STIDUB ·
hi aaron, main reason is the one richard makes is far stronger, & the subaru shaft is splined to suit the subaru clutch disc.
Therefore, the whole flywheel/clutch disc & pressure plate is all factory (or aftermarket) subaru bits, designed to handle the abuse they will be given 😀
currently have 1.5 aeros fitted perfectly, shame that they will have to be taken off again though, im being anally retentive on fitting them nicely.
On a side note, the apprentice(girlfriend) now hates fiberglass 😂
me on the other hand... meh im a vehicle builder for a living! i love this shit haha!
the darkside ·

standard input shaft is fine you just need to use some thing like a t3/t25 friction plate
STIDUB ·
Paid a visit to DB, the core box i have was pretty damn good, awesome news to start the weekend, floorpan should be finished its surgery monday arvo- that was even better news for the weekend, and surfers around indy/supergp/v8supercar/oh shit we need to keep the tourists happy with racing for 4 days weekend is mental, drifting up at the broadwater was good, free too 😀 clubs.... well, this car would be finished if clubs didnt exist 😂 should be some nice lookin things going on in this thread soon 😀
PS thanks DB for those lights, with bonus guards attached 😀 far better quality than the repro shit u get these days 👍
66deluxe ·
Have you found anything to wrap round the turbo? cause i may just may be able to get you an old exhaust blanket of a jet engine at work, they have to be replaced periodically the rotory head at work wrapped one round his exhaust in his race car and lowered cabin temps by a lot. I will see what i can do can't promise anything though.
Damo.
Oh yeah i've stopped building engines for people so i am back into my german look build again.
STIDUB ·
turbo will possibly be moved to a different location in future,(its VERY tight on space with this gear in a bug, just mocking things up as i get them currently, whats the blanket like? I have a source for exhaust wrap for the rest of the piping, if you needed any we could trade 😉
Looking forward to the updates on the 66 👍
STIDUB ·
anyone want to see my box? wide open, not pink in the middle though, very empty for now, thankfully
Yes i know the bench is filthy but other than weekends when im not working theres only a few mins a day to be in the garage 😢
I think that nose cone mount is going to take a long walk off a short bridge, going to need the extra inch or 2 that it takes up...
STIDUB ·
update.... floorpan back from customveedub, right when they said it would be done 😀 good price too 😀 shame about the rain on the way home, test fitting of everything within the week,
Oh, does anyone need a roof off a standard bug to do a choptop or something?
STIDUB ·
Sick days do wonders, even if you can only see out one eye! (seriously! it wasnt intentional, just made the most of an unfortunate circumstance 🙂)
Rear adjuster, front goes up & down with 2 spanners so why not make the rear the same?
It worked, original concept on SBO/GL forums for those interested but for RHD people, we can have hydraulic clutch masters fitted in almost the original location, standard superbug brake mc makes it even easier again
Rolling shell, gotta make sure everything will fit up properly before taking it all apart again to pretty it up, Not looking forward to doing that AGAIN so this may be a rat look subie bug for longer than planned
1303Steve ·
Hi
Looking good, what brake master is that?
Steve
STIDUB ·
24mm kombi, fair bit more fluid capacity in it than the 19mm bug one, bug is really small in mounting space than the kombi though, unless your intending on needing the extra fluid to drive bigger calipers, stick with the bug MC to make it easy, body has to be trimmed/notched to clear the mc though, but a stitch weld on an edge is fine to replace a spot welded seam in my books, hows yours coming along steve?
The fun part will be playing with the pedal mounts & pushrod pivots now 🤪
on a side note, only one brake light switch can be fitted in that position with the lines coming out the RHS, the clutch MC is way too close for the switch on the rear circuit, the fronts also need the terminal bent up a fraction to clear the floorpan sheetmetal, no huge drama but worthy of mention all the same.
1303Steve ·
Hi
What size are your calliper pistons, I ran 996 rears on the front and Boxster rears with a stock 19mm cylinder on my yellow bug OK so I will do the same again.
I have been doing a bit of fiddling with my bug, just got my new axles ordered form the states, I'm mucking around relocating the Subaru engine mounts now, I have a bugs@5speed sump which interferes with the stock mount location.
The pivots will not be a biggy I don't think, just a clevis for the clutch mounted directly on the pedal. With the brake pivot I was just going to replicate the stock pivot, but relocate it behind the new brake master cylinder location.
Steve
STIDUB ·
pivot for the clutch will line up right on the pedal shaft from memory, & as for the brakes, all thats needed is to move the standard pivot/pushrod bit over an inch or so, will take pics when its all done, one of my pedal clusters is sacrificing itself for this though but should be simple enough to copy if anyone wants to & im pretty confident it will all work just like factory, perhaps better.
Steve, do you have pics of the sump attached to your engine? im tempted to make a sump that works with the original mounts, i think im asking too much to support the engine & box off 8 box case studs so would like to have a little more support for the engine itself, im a long way off that part though
piston sizes are 40's & 54's from memory, all the theory is in my toolbox at work, got sick of taking the laptop to work so will try to remember to grab the figures tomorrow, basically i went with the kombi because the fluid capacity of the calipers combined was only a few cc's short of the maximum for the bug MC, kombi on the other hand had approx 1.5-2x capacity, worst case senario i swap back to the bug mc but it should be ok as is
Again ill try to remember to confirm all those figures tomorrow, its been awhile since i did the maths
1303Steve ·
Hi
I'm going to work on the sump and engine mounts soon, maybe today, gotta mow the lawn and few other things first. Laying under the car yesterday I worked out that I can move the Subaru mounts and forward and have them sitting under the heads near the exhaust manifold with a bracket going back to the stock Subaru mounting point.
I was thinking your Master cylinder might be a bit big, Jak is using a stock 19mm with his Nissan front brakes and they have 4x45 mm pistons, but you could fit stock 1500/76 bug master cylinder back in that area if you need to.
When you reposition the clevis for the brake master cylinder there would be an opportunity to vary the pedal ratio, like a mechanical brake booster. With a bit of thought the clevis position could be adjustable so that the ratio could be altered to suit your master cylinder, if its too stiff you could move the position down to give better leverage etc.
Steve
Below is what did before I got my alloy sump to use the stock Subaru mounts, slightly repositioned.

Precisely why the 10mm drop in height for the centerline of the brake mc shouldnt matter, should be softer pedal, just need to make sure the pedal doesnt hit the body before the pushrod stops working, clearancing the body over the weekend, then hopefully lowering it down onto the floorpan for some test fitting, getting closer to the engine i want now too, only getting a trickle of double time these days, not like when i was saving for the gearbox unfortunately🤪
1303Steve ·
Hi
My double $ went a few years ago, boy I miss it but it gives you more time on the bug, only with less money, cant have every thing I guess.
Steve
STIDUB ·
yes & no, still doing the o/t just getting less, normal hours instead of shift work, less penalty rates/fine print, sacrificed the $$$ & hours (prefer shift) for decent work & less B***S*** throughout the day, no complaints & love the job for over a month now, think i made the right choice
STIDUB ·
Dear Mr Butler, i feel your working environment was too filthy, thought this mite make a nice change, scary how WHITE the box comes up in person, pics look a lil more dull than it really is...
why leave 40yrs of crud inside if everything else is going to be brand new?
not bad eh?
still a few stubborn bits but that should clean up with a lil thing i call, magic green stuff!
modded the nose cone to say bye bye to the now pointless nose cone mount & the lil rib below the hockey stick that is in the way of the torsion housing, came up nicely with just a hacksaw, file then blasting
shame the bellhousing doesnt look so pretty anymore, mite give it a once over prior to paint too...
colonel mustard ·
isnt the new nosecone aluminum?
STIDUB ·
intermediate is the ally bit your thinking of, the nose cone is/was standard late beetle, will be heading out to my bug tomorrow hopefully to see if i cut just the right amount out of it 😀 fingers crossed!
STIDUB ·
3hrs of shuffling a lil bit of bug work around the rest of lifes necessities after working on a sunday...
nose cone stuff
want to push it that touch further yet...
rear brake shot, purely since they were there
look familiar to anybody 😂
thats of the 15x7s, plenty of room on the inside still, no nothings tightened up on spring plates its just loosley put together for now, have to pull it apart to set the height right later so not fussed just yet
pedals!
standard ones, as you can see the pushrods line up farily nicely with stock parts after a lil bit of grinding & welding at least 😁
thankfully i have a spare set of pedals to use as donor parts 👍
comments, queries, (wondering why even) feel free to ask, BlueV2 you have pm again, g'nite all!
trickysimon ·
Shitload of work going into this 👍
STIDUB ·
😢 yup & it will still look ugly for ages yet 😢 i smell a german look rat 😂
trying to decide if i should include the lower engine stud/bolt in this contraption
dangerous ·
Albins gears, cromoly pinion nut, and steel 3rd/4th hub.
Still waiting for the 4th gear idler....
STIDUB ·
yay! finally showed up, well most of it, will call you as soon as im happy with the initial part of these mounts & try organise a night to get it all down to you, will have to be night/arvo id say, think its about time i got the rest of the parts to you, call ya sometime this week hopefully!
thanks for posting pics up 👍
dangerous ·
colonel mustard ·
it arrived!!! photos of the axles at all Mr Butler?? Thats going to be one sweeeeeeet gearbox!
trickysimon ·
No idea how an LSD works, but it certainly looks great!
STIDUB ·
shall i assume the packages from rod have arrived then?
main case of the 091 is 98.6% spotless, only way to make it perfect would be acid dipping & im not about to do that.
Mmmm i smell finished gearbox on the horizon
dangerous ·
See you tomorrow Dave.
STIDUB ·
👍 woohoo 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
STIDUB ·
only day off, slept in, cya around 11 😀
STIDUB ·
for those that are curious, the date for the dave's went well, we plan to see each other again in the near future to trade more gearbox porn 🙂
oh, sides tells me that steph & i should of grabbed a muffin with the tea 😂 the rear brake/axle pic mite look a lil different shortly, depends how i go after work tomorrow, fingers crossed i can squeeze in a little more work on the pedals too, still not sure if i want to paint the pan with POR just yet but hoping it will be sorted by end of the month.
it hurts thinking about it but ive found a house that appeals (2bays/workshop/carport...) & toying with the idea of getting a finger in the property pie, that kills the dreams for this thing though, will be interesting times ahead....
colonel mustard ·
Dont kill the dub man!
STIDUB ·
can i use your garage then? 😂
71dub ·
the colonel wont mind you using his garage as i dont have one
colonel mustard ·
if it were mine, id say yes, but as you know... thats not the case. id rather your stuff in there than my sisters "I moved back home" stuff.... (i cant make my car better with your stuff.....) hehe
STIDUB ·
Name these cv's, no prizes, answers on photobucket if you really dont know
the girl put up with 2-3hrs talking box & bugs at DB's so spent the day at burleigh, how nice is that water!
I feel like im going to have something about as cosy as mick's 58, perhaps even more so...
Bellhousing there ^ & nose cone below
anyone got an airconditioned soundproof, fume extraction system setup for their garage, its hot & i wanna play!

Looks freakin amazing! Butler.... Your a pro and a champ 🙂
trickysimon ·
Welcome to the Butler Box Boys 😁😂
STIDUB ·
had to buy the fresh gearbox a friend
that came with some followers
Using all standard/aftermarket subaru clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, starter, seals, etc etc etc
& the main event.... (& i still didnt get to have one of those famous muffins!)
GEARBOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!
driving all over SEQ in a day was worthwhile i think 😀
get to play with it all tomorrow 😀
looking forward to getting the mounts sorted, itching for fire up day now
still need the wiring, plumbing & fuel system sorted out yet but concentrating on bolting it all together for now
put it this way though, next pay is already spent 😂
matberry ·
Awesome😵💫
STIDUB ·
why thankya mat 🙂
Sides ·
You bought a pallet load of plastic wrap with mystery mechanical stuff inside, which was followed by some sort of cooler looking thingy and a laptop box ???
😂
btw - meant to ask earlier about the shackle on the box... is that somehow involved in the mounting setup, or just to try and make it a bit easier to handle and shift around ???
STIDUB ·
sides, thats exactly it! i love empty boxes & used plastic wrap, just going to toss the other bits out 😂
also, boy that sway bar was a toughy, so hard to work out how it goes on :P
for the record, the loom etc is in that box, now i know why later looms cost more to modify, they are so much bigger than earlier ones
shackle was just to move around, now being used as security while working on both it & the engine on the pallet, pics later tonight, dont have my laptop here (stealing the sisters hehe)
that reminds me, gotta call rod about the rest of the driveline soonish
STIDUB ·
another day passes, a lil more progress....
JDM 02 STI engine
mounted to the kombi box with all its bits & peices
using a standard 240mm subaru flywheel/clutch etc
same story on the starter motor
think the turbo is going to be moved a few inches away from this at the least
& im going to need me a stainless donut to fix that
turbo part numbers etc somewhere down there
Really wish this could be started right now
axles will end up fairly straight & almost stock lenght
AND! proof that VW & subaru were made for this!
colonel mustard ·
Looks like a fair bit of firewall cutting will happen :s looking superb man!!!
trickysimon ·
Thats a funny looking beetle engine 🤪
STIDUB ·
amazing what a lil red paint & some water can do eh? 😂
STIDUB ·
to have or not to have aircon.... that is the question....
the woman reckons it would be horrible without, im having a moment of weakness, should i leave the option to have it there or not....?
actually i think i shall since a/c defrosts windows & such alot quicker than without, failing that, can always leave it out later on.
excuse the thinking out loud😵💫
STIDUB ·
im predicting ill be another happy customer for am auto, they got back to me first think the morning after email, mite have the loom sorted very shortly!
Sides ·
Yes - keep the aircon !!!
Admittedly Jezebel is mainly a race car and has very few creature comforts, so no stereo, carpet, headlining, sound deadening etc.
After driving her to and from work for 3 days this week to give the new gearbox some k's, the only thing I miss from driving my normal modern V8 ute is the aircon !!!
STIDUB ·
yeah, definately keeping the a/c now, just means i need to find MORE space somewhere to fit all the associated crap, goodbye what was left of the boot space up front & any room at all around the box, having a demister that works will be nice, the alternative is a heater element in the glass from a mob in the uk, stereo is a necessity for my generation sides 😂 maccas carparks here i come, though im getting too old for that crowd 🙁
Oh, the cage is inevitable it seems, will have to ask the guy nicely if he would do mine, if i come to mt cotton on sunday ill try have a better look at yours, or at the next meet drive it there! - provided its not ripped apart for the new toys to go in, jezebel is getting alot of love for christmas this year.
matberry ·
Mate the air is a definate surely with that water pumper in the back. I've been involved with fitting up a climate control system fully aftermarket into a wild baja and surprisingly easy once all the stuff has room, so need to plan early.
STIDUB ·
true true, i think fuel & coolant bits are more important currently though, but yes, will have to nut out how to fit it in, i guess the a/c evens out the weight front to rear...
hell, why not keep the power steering too 😂

Joel ·
hehe yea, i'll never grow out of the simpsons
ian.mezz ·
ahhh wack a battery pack on the starter and turn the sucker over to see if its all good.😊
STIDUB ·
outta time before i know it, back to the usual crazy work next week, time off was over too fast! no more bursts of productivity like that till... xmas/nye IF i can squeeze it in around the various family things.
Vote 1 - DUB DAY! every week, solid dub work all you want, & perfect weather for being in the garage at the time too!
colonel mustard ·
Let me know if you need moving vw help. 🙂
STIDUB ·
thanks mustard, not holding my breath to see much change in the next 2 weeks unfortunately 🥲
...unless of course i get the new side peices to go around the engine done...
colonel mustard ·
Looks like it sits quite low in there... helpful for intercoolers i guess!
Might need a polish though....
You still planning on running bumpers? There was a nice light metalic blue super with areo's at run to the sun... and IMO it looked better without the bumpers..
STIDUB ·
Getting closer to rolling...
slightly concerning that the skinny wheel/tyre i have on it JUST fits, that said it is at full drop & pushed out on the control arm & should squeeze inwards a wee bit when on the ground
Oh, & the rear as expected will probably end up looking like qik108 with the lumps, ill take a gearbox to thrash over not having to do that though 😀
IF i get to play again on monday it should be all sorted out, better get the mounts finished asap!
Sides ·
So the body is back on the pan for good now ???
That was a bit of a mile stone when building Jezebel... and the perfect time to be lining up the cage I reckon....
STIDUB ·
sadly no, and im not ready for cage yet, need to fit everything else first!, oh does yours use the pan/body rubber or just bolted together? assuming the cage is attached to the pan aswell it seems kinda redundant cos it wont come apart anytime soon
loooooong way off being done still 🥲 but its getting there, even the mother is appreciating it now 😀
colonel mustard ·
nothing is permanant with dave.
Sides ·
Yup - I've got the standard body rubber in there. Cage is welded into the body and then through bolted to the pan - means I can remove the body from the pan just like normal.
I'll drive Jezzi on Wed night - bring a torch and you can have a good squiz if you like.
btw - man that front guard looks fat...
👍
STIDUB ·
big fine if you dont, & i should be right for a torch, possibly with decent batterys in it too! if im lucky i mite get to do a bit sarvo but not exactly healthy currently so motivation is lacking
colonel mustard ·
can i come too?
1303Steve ·
Hi
What size and ET are your front wheels?
Steve
STIDUB ·
15x7 +6 normal boring pre au falcon wheels, nice fitment hey? AND NO SPACERS!!!!!!!! & should be a very nice turning circle when the box is put in 😀😀
dangerous ·
Can you refresh our memory (with pics) of what youhave for rotors, calipers and brackets Dave?
STIDUB ·
will see what i can do, but if you need to know right now, its VWCOOLS BIIG kit, rotors are BA falcon, calipers(not yet mounted) are vr-vs ish commodore calipers, brackets are... chunky, hubs use stock bearings & seals, 5x114.3 stud pattern(plenty of different offset wheels in that pattern) pics when im playing with it all again, hopefully tomorrow 🙂
dangerous ·
So the rotors and calipers are "off the shelf"'
and the hubs and brackets are custom made items by VWCOOL?
So all ford wheels, studs and nuts?
Thanks dude.
Sides ·
Yeah yeah - anything to avoid a fine hey.
Can understand the motivation being lacking. Same issue here actually... plus the heat and V8's on tele ain't helping !!!
Lots of questions there DB - almost sound like you're researching/planning something... heh heh
71-BEETLE-SEDAN ·
im looking at getting one of these kits, were they easy to intall? and what prices roughly pm me ive pmmed vwcool.
STIDUB ·
yep all off the shelf, uses falcon rears so why not use the stud pattern the rotors came with? centerbore of stock falcon wheels matches the hubs PERFECTLY too,
to install... peice of piss, standard bearings & seals, & a few extra, well bigger bolts, only thing thats not off the shelf is the hub, caliper bracket, & the stock vw stub axle needs to be modified slightly(old caliper mounts machined off, backing plate drilled & tapped to larger size)
STIDUB ·
DB, hang around, pics of the hubs/brackets will be up in a few moments (just seen u were online)
STIDUB ·
dialup & internet/comp issues arent fun, anyway heres the hub
STIDUB ·
& theres the caliper bracket
nice huh?
ball joint nut sits rather close to the 15x7 +6ET wheel, its enough to get a socket onto though so no huge drama
Thats the 17x8 +6ET wheels, theres about 2mm clearance at maximum outward position on both control arm & camber/caster top, can still drop 75mm on the strut body in case anyone is curious
Sure glad i got the press in bushings from Brad(TOPLINE part) to flip the tie rod end upside down, not yet done as you can see(tie rod is about 20mm from the body shell
Ooooooh! it moves, on its own wheels!!!!!!!! big weeks ahead id say...
colonel mustard ·
uh... this may be a crap comment, but its just made the track wider...?
STIDUB ·
surely did, the stock wheels would sit roughly where the first 2" or rubber is on these i think, i can measure to compare to yours if your curious
basically ive got bigger rubber without sacrificing turning circle 😀
Joel ·
sure beats a narrow beam and 135s 😂
Sides ·
C'mon - where's the shot of the sexy wheels on it ???
colonel mustard ·
hey sides, I asked a question about mallory gear in the rev limit thread... did you see it 🙂
yeah dave, where are the wheel shots!!
STIDUB ·
STIDUB- forever the people pleaser...
and again, is it just whos building the car or do other people appreciate the various stages you go through during the build?
this should help to determine track differences between various setups
17x8 above, 15x7 below both ET+6
1303Steve ·
Hi
I'd forgotten how close the bottom ball joint comes on some wheels, I put 15 inch cookies on my old 1302 when it was painted, the nut dug into the wheel and stopped it turning.
Steve
STIDUB ·
oooooh yeah, very close, lucky theres a few different size nuts available if need be? (notice the difference between LH & RH) im tempted to throw the higher offset (32-48ish) on just to show the difference in clearance, anything higher offset in a decent width 15" wouldnt fit looking at it, that said the others i have in this pattern are 16's
any chance steve, joel, jak riz etc could post a pic up of the clearance between struts, controll arms & such, perhaps add info for wheel size aswell....
Joel ·
you timed that request beautifully
for the first time in about 6 months my bug is sitting here in my shed not in town at mum and dads
enjoy
colonel mustard ·
uh... how low does it go if you go to the lowest setting joel?..
STIDUB ·
7-8more bits, about 10-15mm each... so... LOTS, otherwise known as sitting on the ground, or joel needs 22's & cycle guards
i guess that shot confirms the thought though, supers need 16" wheels if they are going to sit in that far
STIDUB ·
small note, i should mention ian botchers race parts in ipswich, they have anything from the usa & rocket industries, provided you know what you want, decent prices too,
Steve's probably the only one interested but ive got a clutch master cylinder to fit perfectly too, removable pushrod aswell so the stock beetle one can be modified to work with it, adding to the use of stock parts, works well for myself 🙂
lookout for updates after the weekend of the masters mounted with the body on & POSSIBLY lines loosely run to them just for clearance purposes 🙂
cant be arsed taking a pic, for those that are curious just search for "wilwood compact remote combination master cylinder kit" its not that exciting though.
STIDUB ·
ive been shown up by a pretty picture, best give the people a real update.... pictures say 1000 words apparently so here ya go (long day so short & sweet will do)
the clutch master ill actually be using, tiny huh? more capacity than you think though 🙂
sitting on bumpstops (stock ones, just touching)
& can anyone argue that the aeros make this loook goooooooooooddddd???
just a lil more persuasion....
want your guards FILLED? get vwcools brakes, v-force/vvds aeros & pre au falcon mags!
(sorry its the look i like, no i dont think suspension that low/limiting is functional, can you blame a guy for wanting his toy to look a lil pretty for pics though?)
Thankya & goodnite!
71dub ·
Coming along well
STIDUB ·
thanks 😀 im a sucker for encouragement/comments etc

STIDUB wrote:Steve's probably the only one interested but ive got a clutch master cylinder to fit perfectly too, removable pushrod aswell so the stock beetle one can be modified to work with it, adding to the use of stock parts, works well for myself
Hi
Well done on that, you've put into practice what I thought about in theory.
Steve
STIDUB ·
thanks steve, the pedal movement/clutch disc movement is still unknown but that can be adjusted by changing the master cyl size, oh, steve ill be in syd/central coast in mid/late jan, get some progress happening on your own car so i can come look & go oooooh, ahhhhh at it 🙂
i should probably throw that pic on GL forums to show the body on with the MC in there shouldnt i...
1303Steve ·
Hi
Ive been working on it, I went to fit up my bugs@5speed sump, struck a problem, the sump interferes with with frame horns as Ive moved the box 100 forward, Westi is doing a modified sump for me now, I work shift work so I'm home a lot during the week etc if you want to pop in.
Still waiting on some axles from the US, I want to make sure everything done before I pull the body off, I may need to move my top shock mount to tilt the shock away from the axle.
I'm sure the German look people would like to see the clutch master fitted.
Steve
colonel mustard ·
how far off are you then steve? On the road/track by supersprint? Decided on paint colors yet....?
1303Steve ·
Hi
I'm aiming for Warwick, I'm still saving a little each week for paint, figure I will need around $6000 to get the ball rolling.
Colours, been stuck on black for a while, then Vermilion Fire, new ford falcon colour, don't know the name but its a blue green metallic like the colour on 76 Golfs.
Steve
STIDUB ·
ahh shift work, i love it, the bug@ sump doesnt work with stok mounts does it? im liking the red's on alot of newer cars lately, the dream is candy apple red / candy wine but the expense & risk of damage/need for touch ups on a track car is high so kinda makes it pointless, currently im liking the mazda cx7 red...
as the webmaster of clubveedub(vwdcq liked the girls with beer pics btw) surely you should be aiming for the nationals as a super is best on circuit than drag...?
1303Steve ·
Hi
I'm hoping to get the paint started in February or March next year, its just cash that's holding me up now and some final panel fitting, I don't want to get it painted and not have the money to finish it.
I was going to relocate the stock Subi mounts to fit the bugs@5speed sump anyway, but alas I wasn't meat to be.
I will take photos of my mounts when I get the sump back.
Steve
STIDUB ·
that would be good thanks steve, & about the visiting, ill pm you my number, & when i get my leave approved ill get in touch, would be cool to see yours in the flesh😁
STIDUB ·
ps, shouldnt a guy like you be in bed loooong ago? its close to 130 in the morning in crazy nsw time 😂

colonel mustard ·
some good offers there dave!.
1303Steve ·
Hi
Thanks for the PM, Im on a new shift now, 16.00 to 24.00, couldn't get to sleep.
You don't want to fit early beetle headlights after all the trouble you've gone too.
Steve
colonel mustard ·
Hey Steve, Is it possible to put upright headlights in the aero's? For me the headlights indicate the period of the car for some reason.
Warwick, sounds like a good aim, chances are mine wont be done by then. - And by done I mean remotely driveable, in terms of long distances. Depending on job situations I sadly may end up with a run about with powersteering and aircon... 🙁 Colonel will not be sold off though, maybe just stored in a garage for a while, we shall see.
Paint- I think black is cool, have you seen that 68 (its in america) its german look and all hi-tech (turbo etc.) From what I know of you though, unique is the key..
Dave, what sump setup are you going for??
1303Steve ·
Hi
No, you can only use Early Beetle or Porsche headlights, the early beetle ones have Herman Munster screw to hold them on.
The 911 headlight glass is fairly upright anyway.
Below is one of my favorite GLs in black and a another in orange
colonel mustard ·
Minus the 1 piece windows.... hehe
Is the orange one the topline car/the car they use to advertise their products? - I live how it has a rake, but the gaps are the same front and rear. Good looking car, and from how dave's car presents, I'm sure your project, when finished is going to...... well, I will wear shoes over my socks. 🙂
All I can say, is that my car is going to look more and more like the wrecker racer everytime i look at it... If you sneak around to the 2nd page of my thread you may find some details of what im thinking of doing, - short or long term? only employment will tell.
1303Steve ·
Hi
Sorry about the post hijack, yep not a fan of one piece windows, I have a bee sting ariel for mine as well like the black car.
Steve
STIDUB ·
Jak, im liking that idea, met paul L (1303) when he first advertised his a year or so ago when i was there, his work is just around the corner from the outlaws work, rather convenient if i do say so myself 🙂
Steve yes 911 headlights are on the shopping list still, the earlys were a for now thing & yes those screws make it look like shit
Jason, about the sump, theres 1000 things in my head that may or may not work, im sure ill end up with something interesting regardless, just needs some time to play with things - id kill for that week off all over again, it was awesome!
On the note of one peice windows, after looking at sides' cage, 1/4 glass is somewhat pointless but im yet to find a one peice window that actually looks good close up & seals around the corner at the windscreen, does anyone know anything otherwise?
Steve, we have very similar taste in GL's 👍
Sides ·
Dude - why do you care about quarter glass not being usable... you're going to have air conditioning, remember !?!?!
I've always wondered... I thought split's had one piece windows, so sure there must be a way of making it seal reasonably well....
btw - am I the only one who digs the silver New Beetle in the background of Steve's first GL pic ???
STIDUB ·
no, i dont mind the angry looking NB either, but like you said on wed, it would cost as much as a 911 to make a NB how you want so just go get an 911, less ridicule from the friends that way too 😂
splits yes, & the glass had a cutout on the front edge, the seals stopped short too i believe, same story
Yeah yeah i know ill have ac but i like windows that are useful! and unlike some i consider door seals & such as standard equipment, not optional accessories :P
Jak Rizzo ·
STIDUB wrote:Jak, im liking that idea, met paul L (1303) when he first advertised his a year or so ago when i was there, his work is just around the corner from the outlaws work, rather convenient if i do say so myself 🙂

66deluxe ·
Got some better pics of that orange one i took in South Carolina in July will post later tonight. Type 4 powered now.
71-BEETLE-SEDAN ·
I reckon one piece power windows would be sweet as, or even if you did some major work and made the quater window part into part of the door and mounted some newer model mirrors there.
66deluxe ·
Here's the orange one has ahad a few visual changes.
STIDUB ·
jak, the important question is, in that 10mins do you get to go up the twisties towards the F3? LOVE that road, played with a wrx in my pulstart when i was there once, the outlaws in the back didnt think much of it, they looked a lil pale when we got to the top 😂
with the windows, think ill just go with the 1/4s but blast the frames & spray gloss black, no point leaving one itty bitty bit of chrome there, looks almost as clean as one peice windows that way too with the added benefit of actually sealing 🙂
colonel mustard ·
that is soooooooooooooooo hot.
1303Steve ·
Hi
That orange car is gorgeous, I'm thinking about going orange on my new car, I think it would look good with chrome or black out trim.
The only problem with painting the chrome trims is that it flakes off, eventually, I had blacked out trims on my 1302 in the 70s, it was a pain.
The only successful attempt was guy who stripped the 1/4 windows and window frames and had them powder coated.
Steve
PS, this what the Porsche headlights look like in the Aerolook guards
small update, Al & Miles sorted out my loom & sent it back today, should have it by the end of the week, was cheaper than expected too!
Customveedub sorted my radiator out so its right to pick up 😀
Ive never itched for payday to come so much as right now! it better not be damn late!
STIDUB ·
look whos got a radiator! fits perfectly from the lower edge of the apron/valance to just under the top of the latch area, nice huh? (thanks to customveedub for that one)
if ANYONE here is doing a subie conversion, dont argue with me, send the wiring harness here, no, shhhhh send it there, good price, wicked service!
Im expecting a lil present for xmas from the other 1/2 too (she doesnt get the appeal but i do) best xmas pressie you could get in my situation i think.
on that note, merry xmas to all, happy new years while im at it too👍

x2 👍
STIDUB ·
obd2(large black) Flash memory(white) diagnosis & check(black& green pairs) Grey?
so whats the grey one??? everything else plugs up just right...
other minor problem...
Aircon compressor plug above.... & the respective loom plug below...
STIDUB ·
u left before i could say, thanks 4 the help joel 🙂 however still not forgetting u said the beer is in the fridge & im welcome to help myself either 😂
colonel mustard ·
Looking good Dave 🙂
Joel ·
😉 my beer fridge is always stocked
just gotta come down here to mexico to help yourself 😂
jzk25 ·
The grey plug is not really a plug, it's an earth and shield junction block. Ignore it.
Don't worry about the two wires going into the back of the A/C compressor, it is not something you will use in a beetle. Just cut the compressor clutch wire(the one that disappears into the front of the compressor) and connect it to the car's A/C system wiring. The ecu's A/C switch wire also connects to this wire to give an A/C on signal to idle up the engine for A/C load. bThe A/C system is unrelated to the ecu system apart from the signal wire.
The green plug is for the alternator not the A/C.
STIDUB ·
thought you mite need a break over xmas/nye so was going to call you about it after that 🙂 where abouts on the alt is the plug? i could of sworn there wasnt any others that werent used already, will look into it more tonight hopefully, thanks for letting me know! 😀
jzk25 ·
There's a main post with an 8mm thread/12mm nut and the oval shaped connector that the green plug connects to. If the alt has a 6mm thread/10mm nut main post with a 2 pin connector then you have the wrong alternator.
STIDUB ·
oh to have more time & me less blind, hands up who feels like an idiot for missing something simple👍
thanks for the tech support, i think ill need more later on thats for sure 🙂
Sides ·
Heh heh - idiot blindness is a fine... plus another for being in the workshop with no boots on !!!
😉
Back in Bris now... what happened to all the nice warm weather !?!?!
STIDUB ·
shhh you, i had them on for 13hrs already, my garage floor is cleanish & my korean safety's are at the womans place, that said i was expecting someone to have a go at it so thanks for getting it out of the way early 😂
oh, your mainfold has been pushed back down the line by my gearbox mounts :P
Sides ·
Heh heh - no worries - 'swot I'm 'ere for !!!
😉
Manifold - no probs - Ian D is waiting on it more than me, since that set will possibly end up in the drag fasty.
Thought you had your mounts sorted already tho ???
STIDUB ·
slow process working around work & sleep, the beginnings of them are sorted, the bar that goes under the forks is now sorted too, just gotta cheak how high i want it all mounted up tomorrow then hopefully have them 90% done before i head south, can you donate some hours of your day to make mine longer at all?
ooh how i wish i had a clone or 5
STIDUB ·
interesting.... may fit under stock panels after all....
provided the oil filler is relocated 😀
oh, about those mounts...
sits the same level as the sway bar & lower sections of the floorpan, the sump conveniently will be about the same, if not better when i get around to that side of things, but must actually have it bolted to the car before i worry about that.
the other end is getting a little scoop type thing made up to feed the rad from under the apron & between the aeros... made a rough template up for it by hand, no tools, just talented hands haha👍 more on that later though
STIDUB ·
oh, mustard, lucky you didnt help, steph & i just got back to oxley at midnight, yay work in.... 5.5hrs! goodnight all 😀😀😀
colonel mustard ·
:O I was home by 11 and sleeping at 12..... Have fun at work..
Sides ·
Stainless front mount ??? Hope my taxes/rates didn't part pay for that !!!
😀
btw - some sort of straight edged black creature seems to be attacking you....
STIDUB ·
it was scrap i found! thats why its taken so damn long to get the 2nd bit done haha, & for the record i would of preffered making it from ally but couldnt find any suitable at this stage & getting desperate to have it sitting in the car.
yeah that was sleep consuming me, im tirrreeeeeddd, confilicting interest of having a break to relax & working on this more! ah well, anyway, will try make the welds on the mount pretty, if they turn out nicely ill post pics
btw, your use of smiley things is below adequate, try harder next time!👍
Welding time!
Sides ·
Uh huh... scrap... of course it is... I won't tell anyone - honest.
😉
As for smilies - why don't they have one that signifies "my butt" that I could put after 😘 ???
😂
STIDUB ·
no really it was, same with the stainless pipe i have lil bits of, shame its only tiny, its destined for a gearbox oil funnel thing though 🙂
oh, heres the mount all welded, still need to find some suitable bushings for it & make up bits to weld onto the forks/horns to match up with it obviously
happy with how it turned out, not the best job but good enough, for those that are curious, the sides & bottom were fused, the top part was with filler rod
sides, thankyou for paying your taxes, it only took 5mins though so didnt cost much :P
STIDUB ·
for the record, she wrote that not me, its all good though, it will polish out when im done with it 😀
stalker! i was JUST looking at them cos of the link on germanlook 😂
hopefully i should be able to drop in on monday arvo, just looked up how far rod's place is from where i have to be tomorrow, loooong drive, lucky the rental has unlimited kms! used about 1100so far 😀

hey, would you rather your taxes spent on trains, or other vw's?
VW's I say!

just a quick note, nothing really happening on the vw front other than getting the intercooler & bov connected up, been a little busy over hols, got back then realised i had 4 days to get my paperwork signed off for my job, happy to say IM NOW QUALIFIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wooohoooo!!!!!!!!! (to make life easy, just think coach building, what thats become these days, same kinda work just... less creative 🙁 still pays good & sneaky benefits aplenty, see this thread, thats why i did the trade)

get it moving dave!!!
STIDUB ·
believe it or not ive done some stufffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pics later, nothing huge but oooh i could kill the little japanese guy that decided where the bolts for the p/s alt & a/c mount to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😬
STIDUB ·
if you do subie conversions, expect to break spanners, who the hell decided to put stupidly tight bolts in such difficult places!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nothing huge i know, ive been slack, working & sleeping, should be more progress shortly
thats the clutch of ebay anyway, brand spanking new, oh if anyone has an input shaft/alignment tool i can borrow later... 😘
STIDUB ·
anyone know anyone who does electroplating, anodising, powdercoating by any chance?
Sides ·
No Dave... you will not get the whole car chromed, anodized or powder-coated. In the immortal words of HAL from 2001 a Space Odyssey "I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that Dave"....
It's already got pink bits dude, so forget the bling... I wanna hear that puppy running !!!

Heh heh - yeah
I always change something visual on the car each season... you know, so I can pick which year from photo's.
Last year it was phone dial rims, but this year I figured go with a flower power theme... so one of the big off-season tasks has been putting a heap of pink & yellow frangipanni stickers all over the back window....
NOT !!!
🙅
STIDUB ·
here i was thinking there was a suggested electroplating place everyone was talking about, disappointing guys :P
666bug, take pics of the strut tops when you get them, id like to know if they have changed at all
the ones mustard posted appear to be jefferys from japan, cool stuff, shame theres no email listed, been trying to get some gear from him for awhile, language barriers suck 👎

- yup - Jezebel will be at Mt Cotton this weekend... first outing for the year and for the new combo
- will you see for yourself... sure, if you go along !!! Actually, if you want a challenge I've just thought of a couple bits in her that might be pink...

I think it was the new milling machine, not a drill press.
I more said it cause Dave couldn't find anyone else to do it.

its not that mustard, i just have a preferred guy for the job now 🙂 easier than getting it done sneakily too 😁

as promised, update, may not look like much to some but ah well...

oh, hoping to get some superduty tie rods from lanner @ vdubengineering under there shortly too...
Oooh... where did the sump go....?
That doesnt look quite right does it? will all make sense in time 👍
will make sense when its done 👍 conversion perves should like it though... (i hope)
thats all for now, more after the weekend hopefully!
no more night shift next week, means no time to play with the bug during the day, will try my best all the same

last one for now 🙂
yep, i got greedy with the variable cam engine, makes a HUGE difference to things, more on that later though 🙂
ian.mezz ·
Just remember when you are makin it all pretty with sheet metal that you can still service the motor , Eg get the spark plugs out, timing belt cover off and are able to get to water hoses etc,😊
STIDUB ·
yep, sussing all that out already :P this is the rough copy anyway, only drama will be is plugs really but the solution is a uni joint away 🙂
idea being if its narrower than the cam belt cover +an extra inch or so of clearance its a bolt on bit, though my rear apron will be fun to fit!
westi ·
look's like you have bucket loads of room.
mikey's was easy to work on .the hardest bit was puting the engine in and out because everything had to come of first.cooler.pipes etc, etc.
r u cutting into the back shelf area to put everything in there, cooler and all that jazz.
i have found over the years that you get real tired real quick of leaning in and around seat's to put shit together.but each to there own.
look's like it should turn out relativily butcherless,😀👍that's my way off saying look's good so far dude.keep up the relentless effort and hard work, and don't forget the pic's.

STIDUB ·
Q: what do you do with a girl thats telling you forget the house deposit, worry about that later, just have fun with your car & get it finished?
A: email alot of people about all the stuff you have found for sale lately but stopped yourself buying cos not having anything fun to do on it is boring!!!!!!!
(im predicting another burst of work now)
oh DB is there any other pics of my gearbox bits that arent on here i could get off you?
awaiting on an order from topline, vdubengineering, ebay people, need to find my brake hoses so i can get braided ones made up to suit, make the brackets for SOLID mounts just so its bolted together, cut the shift rod to suit since its in a totally different location now, change the stubs to 930, hoping my output flanges show up early next week, lotsa public holidays to fill soon....
dangerous ·
Lots of pics Dave, I can put them on a disc for you.
Every box gets a photo shoot as its assembled.
But prob not much to show other than what I have already posted.

Jasons stubs.... Money is just sitting there...

Hi Dave,
I'm planning to get a heated rear window for my 1303, shipping from the UK might be cheaper with two, but then we have to get it from Brisbane to Sydney or vice versa.
Cheers
Craig
STIDUB ·
before you say.... DB what are you up to tomorrow? going northside to pick up the fuel gauge tonight.... then tomorrow i could come down that way, have a small favour to ask too
mustard, yep they have been in the back of the car waiting to go to DB's 🙂
craig 72> are easy to get locally, so far i havent found the right one for a 71
Joel ·
for the small fortune you would pay for a heated back window is it worth the cost for how often you would need it?
all of my mainstream cars have had them and i would be lucky to use once or twice a year
colonel mustard ·
id use it 10-20 times a year..... i find the rear screen fogs alot..
STIDUB ·
joel, i seem to have an awesome gift at being able to fog up car windows (nothing suss) what can i say, i must just be really really hot haha, even considered getting the front one to make life easier but some people might not like that one 🙁

Hmmm... front electric demister... now THAT would come in handy the once or twice a year I'm racing in the cold or rain....

Dude - hasn't anyone told you ??? A car isn't truly yours until it owes you blood... and old cars even more so... welcome to the club.
😉
STIDUB ·
it owes me blood, 2x from this thumb now, anyway a few pics of stuff...
funny pair of cars, lambo & hyundai... wonder which one was there for an ecu 😂
STIDUB ·
i hate rear wheel bearings. that is all.
one side with the 930 stub is in, just, going to pack more grease into the housing itself yet, then put the paper gaskets in with the caliper bracket, ran out of time to do the last bits properly so just sealed it up to avoid crud getting in 🙂 more by the end of the weekend hopefully.
Oh, thanks for the tech support DB, they went on fine, except one of the clips stretched out of shape once it was big enough to fit over the spline, is a normal circlip ok as an alternative cos those are a serious PITA to get in!!!!!!!!!!
STIDUB ·
DB, just going thru the cd of pics for the gearbox, sure glad i didnt have to put it all together, thats ALOT of bits
colonel mustard ·
wow.
Joel ·
pfft thats kiddies lego,
wait till you see inside a 32+32 speed electronic clutchless shuttle shift tractor trans
that makes your brain hurt 🤪
STIDUB ·
thats in this thing right?
(mustard, i knew this pic would come in handy!)
Joel ·
haha well actually it was one of my old JD toys 😂
just slighty bigger though
You would think when you pay $85,000 for a tractor they could make the gearbox dipstick outta something stronger than plastic so it doesnt snap off, fall into the bottom of the trans and get caught in stuff 🙄
colonel mustard ·
Hahaha. Snap!
STIDUB ·
yippee, leave sorted for nationals 😀 will see everyone there, sadly without a car, aiming to have the other stub axle in by then though! (stupid life getting in the way)
funny, everything in this things is insanely cosy, if anything bends... i think it mite be stuck permanently, anyway theres the pics of output flange & stub axle, thanks to rodney penrose for getting them for me (091-930output & 930-beetle stubs) 😀
STIDUB ·
ok problem is this...
lucky i dont have coil over shocks in the rear end... ill let the pictures explain
expecting the shock to rub on the boot in a big way, any input into shocks would be great right now (obviously the originals arent being used, they are farrrked)
& since i couldnt find pics ANYWHERE of them
autometer ultralite gauge with lights on!
LED's from jaycar installed for photo as the original globes seriously suck & the green or red cover bits didnt help at all 🙂
sooo..... i guess its time for a show me your shockies request 🙂 *provided you have something abnormal going on like kombi/930 cv's or skinny shocks some how...
dangerous ·
These upside down KYBs may help.
Sides ·
You beat me to it DB !!!
😂
But yeah - just get some shocks with removable dust covers, leave the dust covers off and then install 'em upside down !!!
👍
STIDUB ·
thought that might be the solution, cheers guys 🙂 oh dave when does bix get back? i wanna discuss the sway bar options with him
STIDUB ·
DB, that stub axle is even closer than mine! touching the bump stop bracket even?? maybe with some grinding too... wtf are they off?
Sides ·
BiX is over there for at least a couple of years, tho expect he'll be back for a holiday at some point. NFI when tho. I reckon just PM him... he's on here pretty often.
Oh and I'm pretty sure DB runs commodore CV's...
dangerous ·
I made some flanges and welded them on to bug stubs.
They are Commodore CVs, which are a little narrower, but same diameter as the 930.
Some shocks can not be turned upside down,
but these KYB "Offroad Gas" are meant to be mounted thusley.
Mine came from Vintage in 1993 I think.
STIDUB ·
seems to be the offroad crowd that inverts them after a little research, that seems to be ironic since i want something pretty short & offroad usually means long travel?
on a good note, the other side is now on too, not much else happened worthy of reporting that i can think of, more fun later though 😀
oh, DB about the engine will discuss that with you when i can 🙂
colonel mustard ·
Canadian tie rods from vdub engineering arrived yesterday arvo.dave dropped these to me last night!

Hi
I bought one from Vintage not long ago, I think he has one left.
Steve
1303Steve ·
Hi Dave
I have a similar problem with shock to axle clearance, I might get away with making a new top mount and laying the shock forward a touch.
I just got my Sway away axles from the states, they are much thinner than my wooden dowel dummy axles so I may be OK
Are you coming down to Wakefield for the Supersprint?
Steve
STIDUB ·
steve, sure am, booked flights not driving as i hate the commodore, but then i went out & bought a NEW tiguan😁, pissy i cant drive it down now would of been the perfect running in for it
oh & the 71 window is different to 72> so im not too sure they would have one to fit
thankyou mustard for the pics of tie rods, anyway many thanks to lanner of VDUBenginnering (canada) for HD tie rods, was cheaper buying from him than making them here 👍 awesome gear, shouldnt have any issues with bent rods now (demolished 3 supers & got 2 straight rods from them, running super low... small price to pay for convenience/confidence they are perfect
did the ricey thing & picked up a HKS sneeze valve for the bug today, it was cheap for a genuine so why not?😂
sides, thanks for the pics of the shocks, will get in touch with vassy about it 🙂
STIDUB ·
spose i should put a pic up of the other VW 😀
2L, turbo, manual, watercooled, just has 2 more gears than the beetle & alot more creature comforts 😂
not a bad tow car eh?

thanks for being the garage bitch today mustard, steph is happy to of gotten out of it for a change

shhhh, how did you know 😂 calipers are on their way now, STILL waiting for topline, mite go see rich @ v-force while im there for the nationals & ask him about getting a sway bar made here, its getting ridiculous, other than that its eccentric bushings for the front, possibly some 944 spring plates and rear shocks, thats my suspension finished, till i need to change it for reality of course 🥲
STIDUB ·
yaay, wicked fun at superlap friday, supersprints saturday, & the show sunday, came home tonight to find calipers waiting for me, and oooh so lovely qld weather! yaaaayyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love it, should have calipers & some other odd bits of progress this week, seems im back on nightshift! 😀 (yeah work thanks for letting me know sooner)

CV boots JUST clear with the shock upside down, dust boot cut off

colonel mustard ·
^^ hahaha! Pretty sure dave has had those wrapped for a few months now.... extra tread or something :P
ricola ·
Lucky break with the CV boots and brakes looking nice.. Is that bare ally? Are you going to paint them?
STIDUB ·
not sure on painting them just yet, will see how things turn out, most likely i will though yes, at least the steel bracket bit
steve, nah he used all of his, i had to get my own, just trying to minimise garage filth getting on them, never know whats on that floor 😂
colonel mustard ·
Well.... Something crazy happened. Dave and I cleaned his garage this arvo... and well into the night. There will be pics! & you will want to buy some stuff from him...
there is enough gear tucked away now for my subi conversion.... shame its EJ20tt....
STIDUB ·
i spilt some mustard in the garage after cleaning...
cheers for the help, hopefully ill actually remember to bring the right stuff to fit up next time!
should be all sorted by tomorrow night though, fingers crossed!
colonel mustard ·
Hey look its me!
better use some of that green acid to clean the mustard!
STIDUB ·
its not acid!
its just almost as awesome as acid would be, just without the burning feeling 😂
no wait, i mean what magic greeny stuff, no idea what your talking about 😂
something i just came across for the conversion types, you would need to make a bracket/line out thing for the tank but thats cheap as for a decent pump....
if i find a holder bit that fits nicely (most imports are the same size for the pump) that fits nicely inside a bug tank.... ill probably get one, if i can sort it out before group buy is over
STIDUB ·
righteo subie people, tell me, who knows of an oil filter relocation kit for our not so easy to get aftermarket gear for engines, if only it was a nissan 😂
normal filter relocation blocks have the line in/out pointing towards the ground, add a 90deg fitting in, you havent achieved anything, the above link seems promsing...
anyone have one?
was thinking even better would be delete the water/oil thingo & run a relocation block to filter, thermostat, traditional style cooler & back to the block instead...
gets rid of a few extra hoses & such in the water system, not that thats anything major since the relocating adds a heap more oil line, but hey, thats more capacity right?
Hi Mate
Why do u need to relocate it? or need an oil cooler?
regards
Jak
PS I don't think I've ever asked u, what colour are u going to paint your car?
STIDUB ·
once exhaust & sump are shortened, the filter sits rather low, filters arent known for appreciating being kissed by the road/speedbump/gutter/ripple strip, taking the original cooler plate thing off would tell me at least a small traditional style cooler would need to replace it?
do early wrx's have the plate part or is it just block/filter without anything else?
yeah you asked when i visited when yours was only just still purple, i dream of HOK brandy wine, see ruby rose pics from nationals to get an idea-looked heaps better in person though!, after pricing the paint though...
i think ill go with any red i can touch up easy, wouldnt want to become a trailer queen for the sake of a seriously nice paint job, i wouldnt hold your breath for the colour change though, you will probably be retired by then 😂
colonel mustard ·
why does dave need to relocate most stuff... Cause his bug is going to be lower that a show car and, he is going to drive it harder than a flogged out commodore.... and due to his love of BOOOOOST!!! things are going to get crunched.
STIDUB ·
update, we have steering, with massive toe in mind you but thats easy fixed 😀 mustard will pbor put pics up while im at work, later people!
colonel mustard ·
Here are the pics i took earlier this arvo!
it has steering again! dave will need to adjust the tie rods a fair bit before he tried to move it again, the toe was just insane, but it was cool to be able to move it, and steer it!
the bonnet was just placed on for effect, but its looking good. Keep in mind that it is veryyyyy dusty. I believe headlights is soon on the list of things to happen. starting to look very sweet now dave!!
colonel mustard ·
you thinking what i am?
Joel ·
HA! the ping pong valance
Dave if you want it let me know

Hope you worked Mustard hard!! 😂 get him used to the hard work then send him down here to SA to help me!! 😂😂
Sorry Colonel, couldn't resist (....and yes, I know thats your cars name not yours....but anyway.... ) 😁
Scarab (aka: Paul)
colonel mustard ·
All good, Dave always introduces me as mustard to everyone.... Butler, sides (too many daves!), vassy (markus)
wide gaurds look great, just wait till you see the wing... 🙂
colonel mustard ·
and.....
STIDUB ·
just a note on the above pic... see how far out those wheels sit in relation to the spring plates and bump stop bit...
you can fit 18x10" worth of wheel there...
trickysimon ·
Do it then!
1303Steve ·
Hi Dave
I have one of those Canton oil filter outlets, didn't I show it you along with the Accusump?
Steve
STIDUB ·
steve, you held out on me! did you source it locally or online? move the water/oil bit or just add to the bottom of that?
simon - you find me some & ill think about it, best i can do is a 9.5 occasionally in a close enough to fit offset, 10s dont give much room for error 😂
1303Steve ·
Hi Dave
I bought it from Ebay USA, it was cheaper than going through Canton. The user name I bought it from was bonacore-speedshop
Steve
STIDUB ·
they arent selling any currently steve, but summit is, heaps of them, none listed for subaru thread though, ahh well
oh, its nothing major but ive almost got this in...
hopefully have it sorted by the weekend, how many times have i said that though 😂
sooo much easier moving it without the engine attached, another crane would make it even better
1303Steve ·
Hi Dave
I just gave them the part numbers and they ordered them in.
Steve

STIDUB ·
axle lenght!
and prrof i do wear appropriate footwear in the garage!
not that it had anything to do with mowing previously 😂
and beetle axles sitting on top for referance
more to come later hopefully, had to do a little bit of running around to get other things organised during the arvo unfortunately
colonel mustard ·
Hmmm.... so... which of those images came from a $2000 camera?
the new axles will be shorter by a bit, but a crazy load thicker..
ps, more photos up on my photo bucket soon, tis just loading, and I'm off to the drive in.
colonel mustard ·
well... apparently im no longer going out... so, now i dont get to work on the sti car tonight 🙁 maybe monday. I expect more updates tonight dave!!
Thats what imt talking about!!
berta...
bit more metal cut out...
colonel mustard ·
STIDUB ·
oooook.... so its been a looong day, got up, picked up mustard, mowed, got gearbox in position, measured for axles, fixed toe-in issues, pondered fuel system and installed rear lights, gotta love genuine VW ones, they guard/base/lense actually looks like its made for each other (re-POOP elephants feet SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!)
anywho, spose i should get some pics up, very very very happy with progress currently, would be better if my sister didnt have my damn hammer tho but no huge drama 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
anyway, considering putting a surge in this location currently, not sure ive thought about it enough to justify making something to fit just yet
hopefully you can work out where it is from the pics, looking under from the base of the strut/control arm up to the section opposite side the master cylinder, thoughts?
trickysimon ·
I thought the appropriate footware was thongs/ barefoot? 🤪😂
Looking good man, it should be ready by next weekend?

I laughed at it, yeah. 🙂 When he gets annoyed at me, he starts calling me that now. Also, it was either that or Miss STI. I didn't want to give people the impression that I'm a walking venereal disease.

Hey Colonel,
My wife reckons I won't be happy unless I've done it all myself (or more correctly paid for it all myself) with the car I bought first, rather than taking short cuts by buying other cars. Those who have already travelled the path say you should take every opportunity that presents. But what would you do if you didn't have the Mustard any more? You'd have to change your name by deed poll. 🤓 BTW how's the camera going?
Mick, your legacy lives on, in multiple vehicles 😁
Dave, do you think we've hijacked your thread enough now?
Cheers
Craig
colonel mustard ·
It's not hijacking, its encouraging! Just go hey dave, check this link - ... http://www.germanlook.co.uk/
(and he loves it!)
I know what you mean about colonel mustard... so many people think im crazy and should get rid of him, and its a waste of money and time.... I tell them that they should stop doing stuff they like, cause its a wate of time and money... "well that's different"... they can never explain how, funny that.
I think i agree with your wife, it would be cheating if i just grabbed a car half done off ebay... (that and i would keep the current one, and spend more money, now that is a issue!)
Camera is going well, still learning, and trying to figure stuff out, when i can afford a computer of my own (with some sort of editing program....even if its just to crop..) i might have some decent photos up 🙂
ian.mezz ·
buy one done or half done then you could be driving it around instead of being stuck in the shed😂🤪😂🤪

STIDUB ·
66deluxe, what size stainless? could be keen, was going to use ally but for the right $$ i may change my mind...
hellbugged, pulled some stuff off the EJ today/tonight, typical midnight finish to the day, gasket hole size against port size... theres about 3mm extra all round available for porting.... my thoughts were along the lines of hmmm... is it too late to call DB about this option....
boss lady says no, leave it stock for now.
& i followed with exactly that, forgiveness is easier to get than permission 😀
-theres too many daimos on here, almost as bad as daves 😂
ian... the most obvious solution is get a bigger garage😁

yeah do the porting! if you have a rotary grinder and some carbide bits i think you will find it easy enough to do it your self. I can put up some how to links if you like........did you get decent gaskets for all of the exhaust yet?..............i was super impressed with the grimmspeed and found a good supply on ebay to
1303Steve ·
Hi Damo
I would like see your how too links on manifold porting.
If you buy a someone else's project its a real good short cut, but the feeling of doing it ALL yourself isn't there.
The guy that bought my bug never enters shows, I guess he would get more people saying "isnt that Steves old car"

the little red scourer pads they use towards the end of the vid for final polishing are unreal! worth tracking some down for this type of stuff.
I thought they would have had the exhaust vid up by now.I believe they will be doing it soon, but i will search out the pics i saw. There are a few shots and descriptions on the GRIMMSPEED site........if all else fails i will do some pics of the notch's getting done
their oil/air seperator looks good for us, as does the "fail open" 60' thermostat.....heaps of gear there!
I was very happy with grimmspeed's service and products on the things they sent for the notch........just waiting on some restocking to get the rest we need
Daimo
STIDUB ·
hey daimo.... guess whos got most of the gear in that vid 😁
tempting to do some home porting, but that means an engine tear down, where do you stop though?? while its apart, ahh well while im here get some I beam rods, ej25 crank, tomei cams turbo & quad throttle body... the list goes on
hey DB, how hard would porting be for me to do at home? & how likely am i to stuff it up 😂
STIDUB ·
oh, on the TGV thing, simple, just get an STI engine 😀 gets rid of the pre turbo cat too 👍
66deluxe ·
Will be going to the parents house this weekend to check out the stainless tube and get back to you.
STIDUB ·
66, any word on the stainless?
as for the rest of you, some updates...
clutch is in, permanently, all bolts joining the engine & box torque'd up for good 😀
seeing clearance for 5bar kit for the body box/starter/clutch slave cyl... etc
and another
Oh, the tow car can actually tow now, strange looking hitch too, kinda like a hayman but slots in from below not behind, take the tongue out & you wouldnt know it was there
toying with Boof's air intakes in the guards ducted to the intercooler too...
thanks to DB for these guards, lets mine stay pretty while i experiment 😀
anywho, i have house hunting to do, beelte is getting a new home shortly, i hope....
more later hopefully 😀😀😀😀😀😀
colonel mustard ·
Nice work on the tow bar! Nice one Ian... :P
Sides ·
Damn it's weird seeing a Kafer bar from above like that... keep at it dude !!!
👍
With the air intake in the guards... why not go the Herbie Reloaded look ???
😉
colonel mustard ·
Reloaded look?
ian.mezz ·
Hmmm my Kafer bar kit didnt fit like that as the inter cooler and Turbo and exhaust pipe got in the way🙅🙅
Sides ·
colonel mustard wrote:Reloaded look?
Sorry - the Herbie Fully Loaded look, as in the version of Herbie that they raced out on the flats (tho Nascar Herbie was my fav).
ah. mega side air scoops.... could fit an intake air filter in behind there, with your awesome air flow meter... and on the other side, a small rad for water to air... 🙂
You are a thinker sides.
p.s, thanks for those parts, 🙂 I got my tie rod ends and ball joints today! and i survived the eagle farm roadworks!
STIDUB ·
nothing stopping the turbo from... moving 😉
STIDUB ·
5inch intake ducting in guards... thats not taking things too far is it? kidding people, its just something i made awhile back that was sitting in the garage i noticed tonight
trickysimon ·
Don't be a pussy. Just take the whole guard off and run a small bathtub as a scoop🤓
STIDUB ·
some goodies delivered yesterday 🙂 hooray for ebay! i would put pics up but cable is in laptop bag out in the car, yes its brissy but its still cold, maybe on my break at work tomorrow if i remember 🙂 other toys coming too, thanks to boatfields parts selling thread 😀 gotta get them after work though. fun monday ahead 😀
STIDUB ·
$100ish spent, potential to improve- theory seems sound, will see how it goes in practise(phenolic spacer)
boss lenght difference for that thread
short V long, about an inch differance, may be selling the long one if the boss lady buys me the wheel i want...😁 THATS A HINT WOMAN😁
also scored some indicator/wiper stalks to clean up my dash a little bit more, anyone got the plug to suit they dont need?
and, later today... strut brace & front & rear apron/valance 😀
STIDUB ·
sooo... what would you use?
VF30 left T28 on the right (ignore the oil factor, yes its farrrked)
supers are the fatchick of the bugs right? does this count as obese? mustard & myself noticed from some odd angle that it seems to be getting fatter, maybe it was the bumper...
oh yeah, anyone have one of these?
STIDUB ·
ninja'd mustards pics from the other nite 😁
late column stalks!
rough strut brace i picked up from gordons back yard, flipped for interests sake to see if a spare fits above the tank - so in the pic it does look quite strange
and pics of the tie rods from lanner ( http://vdubengineering.com/products/tierods.htm ) obviously with ends installed, on a lowered super if you still bend these, either flip them over or get bigger wheel/tyres, they are mighty strong compared to stock 🙂
a few more from me soon....
colonel mustard ·
another turbo comparison....
suparu eninge looks small in there now....
I think i got more done for my car than dave did on his last night, thanks for letting me use your gear dave 🙂
And thanks again to sides for the caliper parts, I've got them installed now 🙂
typethreeking ·
what size wheels are in that turbo, looks a bit small????
hellbugged ·
vf30 works well for the notch
20bkombi ·
I'd use the hitachi, They put out awesome power for there size because they have a very very light rotating assembly, different disign compressure
wheel and cover. Hard to compare to similar size garrett.
It alsow bolts straight on, with dump pipe aswell.

Let me see if I get this right, - NARDI Deep Corn Steering Wheel? They only come in 350mm, no 380mm, correct?
Don't ask me why it's a Deep CORN wheel. That makes about as much sense to me as a disco potato, but oh well. I'll try to remember for when it counts. Like, when the car is actually RUNNING and NEEDS said steering wheel to look good. Wait... It's gonna be a rat for a while so it's not going to need to look good...
Ah well, I guess you won't need one any time soon. 😂😘
Went to Extreme Motorsport again today. He let me drive the Tig to the North Side. 🤪 He picked up some more goodies, like his new air/fuel ratio doover. The dash set-up is ALMOST complete.

either has the ability to be bolt on, not alot of stock exhaust will be useful to me, clearance is an issue you see, not like those rotor things, that & im almost clueless as far as turbos go, only go the basics of housings roughly understood
*big intake, small exhaust - low down power/top end suffers
*matched size intake/exhaust - low end is laggy, top end less restricted
*small intake/big exhaust - laggy as all hell but once up it can make crazy boost
from looking at various setups thats all ive been able to gather...
said id query you about this at the drive in the other week, ill get around to it eventually 😂
my plans are usually delayed about 2-4weeks of late.
perfect example is a run down to db's that was about a month ago, was going to cruise down tomorrow but other stuff has changed that yet again, dont ask about the braided brake lines 😂
on the weight factor, damn right, the nissan/garrett sucker is lead brick style

DB- who the hell is digby & why is he getting eccentric bushings made? 😂
cheers for that, will aim to get back down there, possibly with another pair, asap, so... looking at recent efforts about a month 😢

hmmmm. its been an exciting weekend being the garage boy for stidub so far.... tomorrow is gonna be crazy.... so much work getting done! Sorry, no photo's yet! not allowed to let the cat out of the bag!! Speaking of which... on... never mind, Boss lady might see...
STIDUB ·
mustard, dont expect an early morning, we are at boss lady's now, moving LOTS of gear, as for the cat... well turns out, there was a big fat angry possum in the rollerdoor, 2 went in one came out😂 ...if only, no its going to a friends place tomorrow, for how long though is anyones guess
still have that damn bench to move for me too... will work that out after breakfast, around lunch time at this rate.

DB, chaneg of plans, cant get there in the am, so will just drop the bits off in the PM on my way south, heading to central coast nsw, then inland to melbourne, any excuse for a roadtrip, bets on for my fuel consumption? back tues next week 😀
cheap delivery of parts if your already organised & on my way 😂 that never gets any interest
STIDUB ·
some unfortunate news, because of my height from arse to shoulder there seems to be an impossible chance of finding a bucket seat that i fit in, for harness holes, velo make one that JUST fits, but because its a full head restraint all bells & whistles type, dont think it would fit without hitting the window/pillar, not to mention making entry/exit near impossible 😢
only thing i havent looked at yet thats realtively decent is OMP, velo & sparco are no good, that said, boss lady fits in them quite nicely 😍
ian.mezz ·
you just need two normal seats for the street and a driver side race seat only for when you hit the track.
BiX ·
I run a cobra Suzuka. Mine is the GT width from when i was 40kg heavier so the standard will fit easier. I also have a long torso and found this to be the best option for me. But in the endI have used (in other cars) Racetech, Sparco (various models), Cobra and found the racetech to be the best for comfort, even though when you try it on in teh shops you think its to short once you strap in tight it all works. Plus it was what I was in during a 130km/hr head on hit into a 1m concrete post.....
STIDUB ·
believe me drew the stories of the various things you have hit, or been passenger during hitting i should say havent left my mind, just hope i dont do that myself 😂

negatory mustard, house cleaning, we have been here for a month & stuff still isnt out of boxes & off the floor, im getting the shits with it so doing that today, nightshift next week should bring the bug back to the #1 spot on the things to do list, well thats the plan anyway, its been tooo long 😢

ooh, and.... some high strength axles to replace the broom handle that was previously residing in that location 😀😀😀 ...dunno about you but i dont think they are rated for any hp application, people power though they seem to handle 😂

STIDUB ·
fingers crossed this actually works before bluscreen of death comes again....
soo who likes crazy wheel sizes?
18x9.5 +18s
fronts above, rear below
those guards are missing the outer lip, so add about 1inch to the outside & down a lil more, crazy sizes, oh the floorpan is 110mm from the ground, suspension bottomed out, no bump stops
fronts could be dropped about 60mm further, crazy hey?
ttriebler ·
oh yeah that's the shizzzzzz I like it.... a lot!!!
ricola ·
fronts look good, rears look a bit lost in there, I guess it will be better with the proper guards?
Mick058 ·
agree, front looks good - just watch out for those gutters! How heavy will the steering be?
bajachris88 ·
Yum stuff Davo 👍
Keep the ball rolling! I have seen that red Porsche 'thingo' with the very much ferrari/mr2 style 'dip' with engine cover down at the gold coast the last couple of visits, looks a bit of fun!
I bet those wheels weren't cheap 😏
STIDUB ·
in short, ridiculous thats why its only a borrowed wheel, needed spring compressors from a mate to do mustards, grabbed a wheel while i was at it, he wrote his car off on track so its currently being rebuilt, with a new shell obviously, true about the rears, car has to go up more, lower offset and or wider and have the real guards on, but i dont wanna cut them to suit the other stuff yet, DB these guards have been worth their weight in gold! ...perhaps more since they are rather light
funny how the tyre stretch matches the bend of the sway bar tho hey? - totally unintentional

Did i read that right? 9.5 inch wheels on a beetle?
Is that legal?
Anyhoo, i saw you asking about boofs taillights. They come this place in Brazil. http://www.brazilshopping.com/store/buglighting.html
If the Minister For War and Finance doesn't get me some for my birthday (have dropped plenty of hints) I will be ordering a few sets and am happy to grab you some while im at it because the bastards charge something like $45 to ship 1 set.
STIDUB ·
legal? hell no! but why not bolt it on as a just to see if it fits for shits & giggles?
and yes, definately 9.5" wide, rears could theoretically fit an 11" but that wouldnt allow for sidewall flex if they were 11" wide tyres too, i think ill stick with my 7s or 8s when its driving, im sure the friends 180sx will be missing this wheel soon enough
ian.mezz ·
iTs GOING TO BE good to see your car on the road one day moving FORWARD 😂🤪😂

bonus pedals/master cyl pics
ran out of puff after stopping to chat after dinner so engine not quite done yet, but dont worry its coming its coming 😁
Sides ·
Bloody big moon boot sitting on that throttle pedal... do you get brake and clutch both at the same time ???
😂
Just keep chippin away at it dude... oh, and sling me the keys to the MkIV when you have it...
😉
Sides ·
Oh just checkin - from the pic looks like you might not have put the insert sleeves into the firewall for the m/c bolts... a loose m/c wouldn't be much fun...
🙅
STIDUB ·
negative, no sleeves on the bolts just yet, just test fitting, if you look super close the clutch pedal isnt actually welded on, its just slipped onto the tube, the pivot/bracket next to it has to say bye bye & it replaces it, possibly with a tapped hole so i can skip the nut on that one, they seem to work nicely with hand pressure/ no jerkyness no grinding/sticking so all seems ok, its on the high priority list of jobs to finish dont you worry.
nup dont hit the pedals at the same time, the pedal pad for the clutch will be moved left almost in a straight line to the bottom of the tunnel/pan join, brake slightly over so its more centered in the dent and the accel slightly right, just enough to be comfortable but not too much to ruin heel/toe action if i ever get to practise it, ive used pedal spacings from wilwood/tilton etc as a guide & my feet on a board with measurements to make sure they will work nicely with my flippers
oh, the original brake pivot can can be trimmed down now, no longer need it for referance, and... im stumped as to what goes where the 2 tapped holes are infront of my new brake pivot, any ideas?? ive looked at other peoples pedals but nobody seems to have anything there....
sides -hope the convo 2mins after i woke up was in english or close enough to it, lucky i was intending on being up about then anyway 😂
matberry ·
I think the two holes of which you speak are for the adjustable pedal stops that limit the pedal travel towards the driver.
Keep up the good work 🙂.
STIDUB ·
negative, the pedal stopper is behind the pedals, original pivot has a little lip on the bottom that sits up against it, suprising how much difference it makes.
my thinking is perhaps
STIDUB ·
newsflash, the rears fit the same/similar with the real guards on, keep in mind theres no beading, this is with the new stock size bump stop mildly squeezed, just before the jack lifts the car, not a bad fit hey? has about 1-2inches on the inside, SLIGHTLY lower offset required i think, +10 all round should be the go as far as looks/driveability are concerned, shame its LOTS wider than 25mm biggger than stock allowed 😢
i think you guys are right though, reub/steve they do suit, strange since i didnt think much of the style whenever ive seen them before, this might sway me haha
also, my guard intake pipe is progressing... still has clearance with bumpstop compressed 😀
not much though! sardine tin theme continues 😂
silicone hoses may be consumables, or ill just use 1-2straight sections & have the corner in ally or something, that said if it runs at legal height, they shouldnt be a problem 😁
matberry ·
Which two holes are you speaking of then???
1303Steve ·
Hi
We bought the same wheels for David's Skyline 17x8 34ET, I love the look of them, they were $1080 delivered to our door from F1 wheels.
They have some VW friendly sizes if your running bigger guards.
I just dropped my Simmons in to be refurbished and altered for size.
Steve
STIDUB ·
matt, the 2 holes on the diagonal brace welded onto the floorpan, bottom 2 holes in that last pic - below the rusted plate
ps, sides this welder is awesome, at least cranked all the way up 👍 just a shame i have to be at work in.... an hour, crappp!!!!!!
STIDUB ·
pedals tacked again, more cleaning up, love taps, welding required, pretty confident these should be sweet now, oh, does anyone have a NEW RHD pedal cluster return spring? got 2x LHD ones yesterday but dont think theres enough room for one of them, happily swap 😀
1303Steve ·
Hi
I've been working on my bug today, not the wall, not the Skyline and not David's bug, my bug.
All the pedals are out of my car now, there is 3 groups of holes, 1 for the pedal stop, 1 is an end support for the cluster, the other 2 which are closer to the rear of car but have never been used on my car, they were full of feropro. Must have been a bubo by VW.
You can just see the dimple for one of the unused holes in the attached photo.
I've ditched the CNC pedal idea but I will still use the CNC accelerator pedal and hook a morse cable up to it and run it down the heater channel.

steve - were they knocked back because of the dual brake MC's or something else? if you like i can send you the pics of these pedals if your chasing a hydraulic clutch setup, would probably be worth updating on GL thread too i guess, still have all the measurements/drawings in a notepad if your keen
Mick058 ·
hydraulic clutch is awesome 👍
1303Steve ·
Hi Dave
The engineer didn't want non OEM masters and adjustable bias is a big no as well.
I'm doing the same setup as you, moving the stock master over and fitting a clutch master next to it.
The drawing would be useful, my body is still on the pan now so its awkward to work on.
I have an incentive now to get mine on the road, NSW rules may change soon and my engineer will retire when they do.
Steve
STIDUB ·
notice something missing??? the creeper! the engine/box are now attached to the pan!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and another...
its gotta drop about 100mm in the back yet, believe it or not that keeps it above legal still & the sump will be 40mm higher up than the stand thats on it now 😀😀😀
water/oil thingo has to say bye bye but thats no major issue, departure angle shouldnt be an issue either and theres room to squeeze in an exhaust thats more than 3ft long after all, but only just, lots of metal work now....
or perhaps put all the stuff back on the engine with new seals etc & fire it up..... maybe 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
Dasdubber ·
Good to see some more progress mate - look forward to some full side on or front/rear 3/4 shots at some stage once you get the height sorted out.

Nice work dude, too bad it will never beat the Bora 👍😂
ian.mezz ·
whats that blue thing under the motor????
colonel mustard ·
trickysimon wrote:Nice work dude, too bad it will never beat the Bora 👍😂
Haha. Good one Simon!
I challenge you to go lift the rear of your Bora..... Does tht give you a better idea of how fast this is going to be..?
STIDUB ·
ian - blue thing? as in the oil filter bit or the weird bits of RHS? the rhs was to sit it flat on the garage floor for awhile attached to the gearbox to work out heights of things, if you havent noticed the sump on an EJ isnt exactly flat/stable enough for it to sit on, so i just slapped that together, worked a treat 😀
spose i need to replace it with a shortened sump now 😀
Al, its going to need alot of TLC & the odd patch work before anyone sees some nice/clean angles, rear pillars for a start ( got a tig welder i can borrow for a few hrs??? 😀 ) oh and rebuilding the body around the engine so it all fits nicely and protected from the road/wheels and possibly the odd bit of delaminating tyres 😂
simon, bora i wouldnt know for sure, but your beetle wouldnt stand a chance anymore :P i smell a conversion coming on hehe, sell u my leftovers & some drawings/sketches & such to help out.
steve - still looking for the right note pad, its amongst legitimate work stuff somewhere, may have a spare undrilled section somewhere too, gotta rummage through the toolbox at work & the bits & peices at the mothers and find where everything has ended up at the new place
trickysimon ·
Haha nah i refuse to go subi on this Beetle. We will see whos laughing when I supercharge the Bora 😂
All jokes aside though, this thing is gunna hammer!👍
STIDUB ·
steve, still havent found the drawings or the unfolded/drilled section yet, not impressed!
and for the conversion guru's...
can i delete that line from the pump to the cooler & into the block completely without any adverse effects or not, and is that the way it would flow or is it the other way around?
STIDUB ·
wow, looks like ive beeen slack 🥲 heres a pic of something thats coming together slowly...
can anyone smell fuel vapour? 😍
STIDUB ·
fuel rails modded slightly....
shopping for more fittings & bits tomorrow, they didnt have enough of what i needed last week 😂
coming up next, coolant lines & sump 😀
STIDUB ·
as for the other end...
weld on fitting from tank to this....
lil bit of other stuff after that...
used hard fittings to get the rough idea, might change some parts to braided hose soon, still gotta fit water lines in there somehow
may also change the tank to pump section to a big dia rubber hose just so its easy to get on/off, not much room for swinging spanners to tighten everything up in there unfortunately bt it goes with the whale into sardine tin theme i guess.
oh, can anyone tell me, how hot will the 044 get when running? it will be insulated from coolant lines & radiator heat but i wouldnt mind slapping my battery in a box just ahead of it where the spare wheel was, ill bit of sheetmetal work needs to be donee here... should be solid & look neat when done 🙂 pics to come
STIDUB ·
weld on fitting for tank to pump & return line to tank done, gotta love the original drain hole & body hole to match, mirrorred on the other side for the return fitting, now just need a tiny lenght braided hose so i can do the fittings on everything up tight while its all in the car, idea being to leave the hose lenghts on the tank as its put in, then attach the rest thru what was the rear panel of the wheel well, all to be re sheeted in a more suitable fashion soon 👍 pics later - hurt my neck😢 now gettting some tlc from boss lady 😁
1303Steve ·
Hi
Looking good. I had a tap on the tank outlet on my old bug and I've put one on Davids bug as well. It make it much easier when you pull the tank out to be able to turn the flow off.
Steve
STIDUB ·
pics as promised, welds arent sexy enough to boast about so your not seeing them 😊
anyway for the purpose of the pics theres an extension peice from the weld-ons down to the 90deg & 45deg fittings, will be replaced with about 2-3" of braid on the pump side & the return will be straight from tank to hardline nut
the other part of the fuel tank will be in tank baffle, will be fun to do with the level sender still needing to be put in/taken out, grey matter nutting that one out to work out the best option before i cut anything
steve, thought about doing that but would need to cut out all of the flat area where the steering column goes through, that & theres not a whole lot of room to fit anymore, water lines are snaking between the steering box & fuel line & fuel line/idler on the otherside obviously, leaves enough room to throw a battery box infront of the pump and still leave enough room to let air escape out from the radiator 😀 wonder if i could fit a weeks shopping and a spare tyre too 😁
STIDUB ·
gotta love birthdays & attachments that get hints 😘
something special is coming my way....
im pretty sure its the one thing my bug will have that no other in the country will have, for now anyway 😁
-oh, anyone got a suggestion for flaring fuel lines, the stuff i have from trade tools just wont cut the mustard, tube cutter is awesome, flaring - not a chance- would love suggestions so i can finish my fuel lines...
That's exactly what I'm after, like the 1303RS at the nationals, but without me having to have any skill 😁
How do you order??? Not a lot of clues on their website.
STIDUB ·
Well the way i did it was study japanese while on breaks at work... That lasted till about chapter 4 then asked everyone i knew if they spoke japanese, then asked the importer i got my engine from, then asked boss lady to do it for me thru a guy that imports cars from japan, he have her an email of a guy who knew a guy that lived in japan, osaka i believe, then they spoke & organised it all, in short a lot of effort + finders fees & favours. Oh not to mention the 3 yes 3friends that went to japan this year! Oh its a suprise, i dont know they are coming lol. Ill let u know what quality is like, mite be getting more stuff soon& mite be able to help u out :-)
Craig S ·
Look forward to hearing, the other option I'm considering is the side blinkers from a current model statesman to go where the trim currently sits, and just keep the mirrors simple

H - tireless is about right, 1000s of times ive been tempted to throw the lot in the bin, but when i have a free few hours i try to make some progress, its about a year overdue for completion now 😬 anyone wanna clone me so i can work to make the $$ and work on the car at the same time id be greatly appreciative 😀

STIDUB wrote:anyone wanna clone me so i can work to make the $$ and work on the car at the same time id be greatly appreciative 😀
If it's costing anything like most restos/modifications then you'll need to be cloned twice, so that there's three of you:
* One to work on the car
* One to earn the money to live
* One to earn the money to pay for the car parts you buy.
STIDUB ·
...or do shift work with overtime paid at 2x your decent rate, tho, 2x ppl on my pay could be handy...
Craig S ·
Overtime??? What's that??? I'm a salary slave. Working extra hours is all part of the deal. 😠
You obviously don't have money sucking kids yet either!!
STIDUB ·
ahh yes, salary jobs- couldnt think of anything worse myself
and kids, yeah the theory i started with was either do something crazy now or later, figured if i did it pre-family etc then at least i SHOULD be able to enjoy it into the later, wont be able to do something this silly again till im retired, thats another 40+yrs or big lotto winnings away, considering i dont gamble much... heres to hopefully finishing the car before i retire 😢
oh craig nice choice on the wheel, looks like mine 👍 though that will probably be changing soonish hehe
STIDUB ·
say goodbye to stocko chrome mirrors!
and may i introduce Jeffreys Jsports mirrors from japan -thats alot of J's, heres another incase the guy reads this
Jesse, thanks for helping boss lady out, they are awesome 👍👍👍😁😁😁
and without further delay...
thats all for now, gotta read/translate destructions for wiring and swap the stock LH door for my spare with mirror hole!
dear boss lady: 😍😍😍😍
-as for the rest, hope you like them, if not i dont care cos i think they look great 😀
oh and fitment etc seems nice as far as first impressions go, glass is like the tiguan rear view mirror, anti glare kinda thing, looks nice
(yes ok i will admit that ive been waiting around all day for them to show up, damn online tracking!)
Craig S ·
👍👍👍👍
I gather you're planning to road register the car given your mirrors have indicators. I take it they are LED?? Photos with them working please.
STIDUB ·
patience grasshopper 🙂
^^ pretty funny coming from me hehe😀
STIDUB ·
Update from Boss Lady while Dave is finding stuff. Photos of the mirrors lit up, and a vid for authentic flashing motion. :-)
The vid may not work, so I might have to post a different link. We'll see.
STIDUB ·
also picked up the, ive been meaning to get them for awhile, 944 spring plates off 66deluxe today 👍 more on that later though, gotta find the time to clean them up & potentially plate them - its started me thinking about a 944 arm swap too now😂
Sides ·
So does it run yet ???
In my best impersonation of The Big Schwag from Monster Garage.... "we got no time for mirrors that blink, springs that ain't plated and arms that won't swap... this monster needs to make some noise !!!"

STIDUB ·
not yet, ran into an issue, oh and a guys still gotta work! i have a beetle AND a woman remember 😘
so you commented on here but no stab at the drifting beetles in japan links i posted up? disappointing haha
i do have a beetle on the driveway thats running, its pretty low, has berg shifter... oh wait its aircooled nevemind haha
Sides ·
Drifting... pfft.... sorry dude, but you know I've never understood motorsport where you need judges that award scores...
🥷
cam070 ·
Do you have a link for where those mirrors came from? I think I remember seeing them before and they were quite pricey, but they look the goods.
STIDUB ·
On phone so not currently, just search jeffreys japan & you should find it, or copy the photo i linked to off their website & work from there, minor issue with them, loctite cured it though, currently driving mustards Lbug (thanks man) so testing their real world user friendliness, seems good so far & his suspension& the roads ive been on today should of found any issues, but all good, will see how they go with headlights on the way home :-) lenses are mildly convex to, i like it
STIDUB ·
Oh and they were ¥22,000 and only weigh approx 100-200g each
Craig S ·
Very noice.
STIDUB ·
vison on both sides is awesome, they sit at a height almost the same as the top edge of the stock mirrors, works for me being relatively tall, also the actual mirror itself is the same size if not bigger than stock + the convex factor makes vision awesome, no glare on the way home so whatever they are coated in is great, similar to the blue bit on the top of windscreens? anywho bedtime, maybe after a refill, one day weekends deserve a drink or 7 😂
STIDUB ·
woooow just noticed i have 1000+ posts, STIDUB now comes with extra awesomeness 😂 or should that be lots of useless crap...

I'm gunna go with the latter. All you posts seem to be about somthing stupid called "Subaru" 🤓

Why aren't you working on the car ?
STIDUB wrote:oh and a guys still gotta work! i have a beetle AND a woman remember 😘
If you think work and a woman take up your time, you are in for one hell of a shock when you have kids 😂😂😂😂 OMG. Maybe it's just my daughter, but she is always wanting her Dad for something.
I have already told her during the next school holidays that she has to help me work on the car. But in reality, this just slows me down and now I need to be careful of the paint 🙂
Mirrors look good and will suit the STIDUB.

STIDUB ·
ok people, ive cleaned the rubber shit off the 944 springplates, great job that is, turns out i am black, well was, bandsaw, linishing belt, then wire wheel on bench grinder worked a treat, came up awesome, but not a job i ever want to do again, very time consuming & meeeeeesssssyyyy!
pics later, oh swapped LH door over to the one with mirror hole, lines up nicely just how i bolted it on, practise is priceless eh?
now, do i run 1 peice windows because of the planned rollcage or do i keep the 1/4's in ignoring the fact they are then useless... im aware of the lack of sealing etc on 1peice but dont see an alternative 😢
ricola ·
I was never happy with the sealing on one piece windows either when I did mine. The trick is to cut out the metal part of the seal so you can get it to follow the curve of the door and stick it on...
guru ·
I have one piece windows. Don't really care about the sealing stuff, but they do run perfectly in the channels.
I've modded the dash so the front cage legs follow the windscreen and 'a' pillar real close. Can easily use the winders.
66deluxe ·
I hope you farted In the seats while driving the mustard mobile. Mirrors look great.

tiny update, been very slack, weatther ruining non-vw things and lacking in motivation after work but anyway scored some 911 headlight rings to make the front end look a little nicer $20AUD~ posted from the uk in a week or so, no thanks to the damn snow on their end, look the goods, havent had time to test fit them though, got the vwdcq tonight too, then work 4am... quick meet is a good meet right?👍

STIDUB wrote:posted from the uk in a week or so, no thanks to the damn snow on their end
it was 7 degrees below zero here yesterday, not good for motivating me to go out in the garage in the evening!
STIDUB ·
just been buying things over the holidays, waiting for shops to reopen then the ally work begins 😀 ac/dc tig welder time, have the pipe for water lines now, just gotta source a few bends/donuts that i cant do at home, hopefully will only have 4x hoses for the water system, ignoring the ones littered across the engine of course, oh and just for a laugh...
the original VF30 just below it could almost fit inside the intake...
oh, nothing exciting just got some freebie wheels for it, ive heard rumours of a turbo ej20 ghia being parked next to my beetle too 😁
STIDUB ·
dear beetle, why are you so mean?
been doing a few odd jobs around the bug while ive had a spare 5mins or so recently, now discovered my floorpans rear 1/4s are rather bent, not sure how/when this happened but id say its a jacking incident, only noticed after taking everything out of the interior to suss out where my turbo/exhaust/intake has to go
in short, we arent on speaking terms anymore tonight 😬
Lesson for the day, the only straight/level edge to use as a guide on the dash is the radio hole, the rest is curved - must admit i didnt think of that, all good now though, just need to weld an extra bit to my new section 😂

No such thing as an inappropriate hour to work on the dub... just be vewy vewy qwiet....

i was going to say earlier while at work, better to have an understanding woman that not have one at all eh sides? but now im home i change my mind, stuff them, and guess what im doing! im in the cave, doing laps around your freaking ghia playing with my toys, unofficially there may be bulk alcohol involved but thats not the point, you gotta come visit/so we can have a plan of attack on the ghia btw, your gunna have to be the apprentice on this one
does being vewwy vewwy qewwwit count if im "testing" the garage stereo that penguin donated to me with bliss & eso, eminem & hardstyle playing?
oh and reubs, ive decided it was a blessing not a curse, if had 3hrs sleep in 3 days but im doing stuff on the bug again & thotougly enjoying it, may be all the stimulants and cough alcohol cough cough going thru me currently but its a good thing, cheers man 👍 was probably the push to get into it i needed
STIDUB ·
all this talk of welding lately, its not the best but it does the job for what it is...
overkill? never! just cos its shortened doesnt mean it wont hit the ground on occasion
unfortunately my free day to do bug stuff was interrupted so thats all i got done, better than nothing though!
feel free to pick on the welding- drinks were consumed earlier 😂
STIDUB ·
ok so theres a few pin holes through it
can anyone pick the one i did prior to going out 😂
small update, the last 2 tubes are done, now to fill in the sides, add baffles & shorten the pickup to suit.
oh its approx 80-85mm deep for those playing at home, 10mm socket & extension fits thru the tube with about .5mm to spare
the outlet on the RHS of the water pump in the above pic is about to say bye bye also 😁
Brad ·
Looks interesting, how thick is your plate ?
Will be an interesting design once finished, should have a descent capacity.
Here are some pice of how we do ours which might give you some ideas. We presure test them to 5 PSI once done to make sure they don't leak.
We have had some issues with the tig welds around the tubes on the earlier ones when they heated up as the tubes wouldn't expand at the same rate as the plates. We made some design changes and technique changes to sort this and have had no issues since, just something to think about.
Also keep in mind that you usually feed the sump on to get the dipstick to seat, if you make a straight bolt up you will need to remember to take that off before you fit it.
Oh and remember to include the oil return tube so that the oil goes into the base of the sump and doesn't get all aired up and bubled etc, this will cause issues with surge and running dry.
Anyway hope that helps, good to see people giving it a crack.
STIDUB ·
2-3mm, baffles will be 1.6ish, my theory is that if it hits the ground despite being shortened i want it to be strong enough to take a hit or two, will see how it goes in practise once its all done i guess, & if it fails i can just go for a drive & grab a CVD one 👍
dipstick hole/tube will be the same as stock so should bolt on & off just the same with a little wriggling, hopefully ive got some free time tomorrow morning to continue it 🙂 once ive done this it either coolant lines or exhaust manifold- cant wait for my electricity bill 🤪
STIDUB ·
by the time the nationals come around, i dont think i want to touch anything fiberglass again, my aero guards are getting some love, the bumper is mounted, pics to follow, i think it looks odd & needs to go wider, radiator mount/panel work is progressing, shift rod/shifter coming soon, oh and skinnier tyres at least on the front. with max castor adjustment on the sway bar & the tops all the way back they rub on the forward lip of the aero more than a little bit, oh and 18x10.5s with 265s on them fill out rear guard space quite nicely 😂
Camo ·
We want photos, not cheap talk 😁

if you do the dishes & clean you room i might post some up tonight/tomorrow morning after work :P
yours better be at the nationals kev, finished or not👍

boring...
Come on already - pull the finger out, get some photos up - make something happen!
STIDUB ·
hows this for shit timing, finished off my dash JUST now, shutup i slept in last 2 mornings, its been a looooong week, anyway camera awesome, plugged it in to the computer... card error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! raaaggggeeeee!!!!!! - getting the pics of the car stuff already done is fine but i had other stuff on there, boss lady was preeeeeettttyyy the other nite 😉 and yeah missed out on progress pics now 🙁 but anywho i guess ill have another quiet drink & retake the stupid pics to post up, sorry mick, are you looking forward to the returned passenger ride when im finished? 😁
STIDUB ·
ok camera/laptop learnt to talk each others language now, pics uploading 😀
ok welcome to the latest burst of bits & peices of dub work thrown in amongst the rest of life! - older im getting the less time & money ive got to use on this, its depressing!
anyway pics as promised 😀
replaced my "blue" parker bulb with the blue LED's im using in the guages, and farrrk they are bright! - probably just a touch too much but for shits & giggles it was entertaining
anyone ever seen spacers done like this before? off a friends car that im helping do a decent fitment on - without cheating/dodgy'ing it with spacers or any other shit, and its getting VOLKS! not cheap - bastard apprentices having disposable income
anyway for thrills i thought it throw it on STIDUB...
18x10.5 with 265/40/18 on it...
mounted up it would be approx +35ET, 33 preferrably, fit under the aero that i had loosely on, couldnt hold guard wheel and take a decent pic so didnt bother but you get the idea, but yes 10's fit very nicely 😀
big thanks to joel for the bumper brackets to suit the later bar!
turns out no mods needed to bolt it up, at least with 2 of the 3 bolts - relatively headache free
however.... this is where i have a problem... 4" wider body with stock bumper looks strange to me, im thinking 4-6" wider bumper would suit much better, it just doesnt... flow?
anyway you should get the idea from that lot
next up is the fun glass work ive given myself...
up next on the menu 4" ducts in both rear guards, tucked up as far as possible to give max tyre clearance, it sits on bumpstops compressed & still clears the 90deg silicone join, highest guard bolt is done with an open ended spanner but not a huge drama, just about ready to mirror it into the other side but the neighbours probably wont like grinding/drilling at 1am, that & i have a smashed r32 to fix tomorrow, yippee, skyline variety not golf - bonus is food & drinks all day & get to drive it at fri nite drifts coming soon 😀
ok and on the other end, radiator stuff
roughed out a panel to stop air recirculating through the rad so its constantly got cool air, should work, also have a similar shape scoop that drops down to the same level as the aeros if it needs more air fed into it, but hopefully not.
the above is a little rough but it was all just eyeball measured & scribbled out 🙂
lastly, after months of waiting for postage from europa in england - thanks ricola for pointing me that way! my warning lights MOSTLY showed up despite not putting QLD on the damn package
so we will ignore the battery light being in the indicator spot for now ok
more to come, IF i order the other electric/dash stuff through them HOPEFULLY it doesnt take a month to send it.
think thats all for now, probably wont be much else changing till after nationals, see you there! can i go to bed yet? 5hrs till it all starts again.
can someone remind me what a weekend is again?
and how on earth do you guys with kids actually do this? your all nuts!
ricola ·
Nice update, those gauges fit perfectly! I agree with you about the bumper, definitely needs to go wider, can you get widened 'glass ones over there or do you want to stick with chrome? These rear wing intakes are really taking off now, not surprising given the good results from boof and Jak.
STIDUB ·
thanks for the compliment rich, its only taken 6months of brain scratching while sitting on a milk crate holding a steerign wheel to work out what layout would work nicely with visability & cage etc
yeah since studying both of their cars i was keen to do it, just... BIGGER!
looking forward to the finished products

Sides ·
Excellent progress dude since last time I saw it... well done !!!
👍
Love the look of the dash too... remind me to talk to ya about that, since want to make a few changes on mine.
Also... dibbs on that front bumper when you decide not to use it !!!
😉
Joel ·
You'll find with the brackets bolted in like that your bumper will be facing downhill a bit.
Here's how my brackets are redrilled.
I still think you're worrying over nothing with the bumper width.
All the other aero supers around look fine with stock bumpers
1303Steve ·
Hi
I'm doing the final fit-up of my bumpers now. On the front I only had to elongate the holes and put some new ones in.
I'm using 75/76 style brackets like Joel has shown, the middle slot on the end of the bracket I opened out to the very end to give me some to guard clearance and I made new slots for the other two holes, this gives me a decent clearance between end of the bumper and the mudguard.
The rear the bumper was really close to the guard edge, I needed to extend the bracket about 35 mm.
These brackets have place to fit a K mart jack handle in to get them to line up nicely.
I agree with Joel, the stock bumper length looks fine.
Steve
STIDUB ·
hard to tell what angle the bumper is at, its cable tied on 😂 skyline/silvia engineering is tainting my beetle haha
the bumper in pics is a mostly mint, its got one ding in the bottom original 76 bar, get ya mits off it sides!
your dash is just ally, not steel, ally would be 10000x easier, this was a pain, if it wasnt so late & i wasnt up so early i might be cutting my original metal out right now, damn neighbours & work!!
also in other aero'd bug pics the bumpers all look slightly different, just cant pick what it is, perhaps like the minor bend differences in the supers at the gold coast show joel?
oh on a side note, club meet this week, super urgent chat about the amarok to be had - sides u want to pay attention 👍

Heh heh - can't blame me for tryin !!

STIDUB ·
you say call, i leave it till a respectable hour, and your busy, bugger ya! no amarok for you! 😂
STIDUB ·
not a bad view i reckon 🙂
now just need to cut more out NEATLY to make it sit flat with the stock dash sheeting, its a VERY cosy fit with the curve/bend above the speedo & over the original speedo hole, the wiper motor has heaps of clearance, now to find matching switches for hazards & lights, so far so good, oh big hole up the front for my radiator is in, no pics of that it was rushed in as people showed up for dinner at ours 🙂
Jak Rizzo ·
I think u will need a "no junk mail sticker" for the those air intakes. Postman will mistake them for something else
Maybe some mesh so that low flying wildlife or small children don't get sucked in?
Jak.
STIDUB ·
ill take that as a compliment jak 🙂 guess when im done ill have to get the sunday paper & put it in the hole 🙂
cant decide if i want to leave it open or mesh over just yet, both have pros & cons, will play around a little more once its glassed 🙂
and sides thanks for the tracking thing, my shift rod is mostly back in now too so should be ready to bolt in on arrival
also, told u u would like what i had to say about the amarok 😂
BiX ·
Dave, are the side scoops running straight into the intake or for intercooling? any issues with water being sucked into the intake?
STIDUB ·
scoops feeding cooler, possibly some assistance to the intake but currently not, depends on how much i adjust the location of the turbo
ian.mezz ·
ARRRHHHH

so anyway unfortunately working both tomorrow (ippy show holiday) & sunday for quite generous pay rates 😀
so hoping to have my shift rod back out & shortened & put back in with shifter attached saturday, fingers crossed the thirst for sleep doesnt hit too hard & ruin the plans 😀
STIDUB ·
soooo, ever had an issue that the shift was so short you could barely tell the difference between gears? the ORIGINAL shifter that i checked alignment with moments before putting this sucker in was... 1ft long, under the dash 1st, over the handbrake 2nd etc you all know the deal....
pics speak 10000 words right?

haha good work on the update. you must be up late. only 930 here in the middle east
shifter looking good
dangerous ·
Nice work there Digby!
Nice pic of Steph too!!😊
STIDUB ·
almost 1am as i posted, considering im up for work @ 5am when on days it was getting ridiculous, the relief when it all lined up as it should & shifted nice-ish (its all insanely tight) was worth it
DB, cheers dude, still struggling to get free time to get down to yours, its bloody irritating but ah well, engine is out for now so dont really need fuel system connected up yet.
radiator also has its fans test fitted, wow 2x 10" fans... cyclone inducing 😀
up next, alot of ally tig work, will be... testing havent touched ally for awhile for anything that critical, ah well got a few meters of pipe lol
heading to nationals tonight/tomorrow morning after work & sleep sarvo 😀
updates to follow nats
hellbugged ·
wheres the picture of it in 5th? 😂
STIDUB ·
Kiss My Ass, Damo - From Dave
And do you know how cold it was in that bloody garage last night? Pole shorts and ugg boots are not designed for greasy shiftrod work! And still I stayed to help. Aren't I awesome? "Just five more minutes help, please?" Turned into an hour and a half. 🤪 - From Steph.
I've hijacked his account 'cause I'm too lazy to sign into mine. :-) Now to go fish shifter parts out of the downstairs sink. Just what I had planned for my morning. Woo!! 😵💫
jigga ·
What shifter is that? looks like a nice short shift... how hard was it to fit up?
hellbugged ·
did you lengthen or shorten the shift rod?
STIDUB ·
shifter is a bugtech - from germany, their version of the berg i guess? either way i have both now so not complaining
shorten 35mm, kombi box is bigger in all directions & was pushed forward as much as possible so the rod had to be cut down to suit 🙂
its welded 2spots with the other bit of tube in it because the original weld wasnt the right orientation, cut it angry (badly) so had to remove a section & re adjust, worked well, pipe was conveniently the same external size 🙂

STIDUB wrote:its welded 2spots with the other bit of tube in it because the original weld wasnt the right orientation, cut it angry (badly) so had to remove a section & re adjust, worked well, pipe was conveniently the same external size 🙂
😂 thought that was what i had spotted
STIDUB ·
so, was i right guessing you wouldnt of liked a msg/call around 4am when i rolled past your neighbourhood? 😂
1130 leave db's place with vip package delivery service, boarder at midnight, think i crossed the macksville bridge around 357am 😀
ps db thanks for the cuppa for steph & my coffee, those coffee lolly things were.. interesting 🙂
STIDUB ·
ok, as good as a holiday trip update can be...
thanks to the guy in the buggy with the bugtech at the sprints my thoughts of shit this is too tight were eased 🙂
thanks vwmad/shane for the doors, suprisingly decent condition for what i need/want, already out the back of the outlaws cleaned up & should be ready for the rrip home wednesday
sprints were good - despite a lack of several cars i was expecting to see, ahh well more fun next year right when everyones finished 😂
pics of my shiny knob & the doors / one peice glass shortly after i get back to brissy!
ps - yep i still HATE sydney drivers/roads/concentrated levels of craziness - tho craig will probably say something about a dirty qld rego tiguan attacking him after a recommended 80kph sign 😂
Craig S ·
STIDUB wrote:ps - yep i still HATE sydney drivers/roads/concentrated levels of craziness - tho craig will probably say something about a dirty qld rego tiguan attacking him after a recommended 80kph sign 😂
Psycho Qld drivers clearly aren't familiar with the M4 and Mr Policeman's habit of nabbing people on a Saturday evening. 🤪 Sometimes local knowledge slows you down.
BTW the speed limit signs aren't a recommendation. 🤓
I did enjoy your creative lane changing though as I was heading off the next exit and you were trying to break a record for getting to Parramatta. 😂
STIDUB ·
i was doing 110 according to my gps 😀
the yellow ones that have bendy arrows on them with a speed underneath are purely suggestive, waaaay over used 45kph ones on the old highways down here too, never noticed before now
busy guy, had to get from goulburn to parra for the hotel, to penrith for old friends catch up & dinner, got back to parra around 230am so it was a good night and made it to dinner with a minute to spare, people down here are allergic to the lanes on the side of the roads, always heavy in the middle, minimal in the left unless getting on or off motorways & the right lane is just... people in camrys & old saabs doing 10-20ks under...
brissy traffic & relatively consistant speed/lane use is something nsw cant grasp, went past plenty of red & blue things and unmarked didnt raise an eyebrow 👍
STIDUB ·
delivered parts on the way down, picked up some on the way back, somewhat delayed return trip though but anyway, thanks vwmad for those doors, hoping to strip them & ponder repair or just refit the glass into other doors i have
more on that later in the week, gotta track down mustard to swap the T handle to the ball on my berg shifter, yes mr hellbugged ill take comparison pics like the bugtech
was hoping to get stuck back into it by the weekend & during but looks like the calender is full already, fingers crossed all the same, more work coming soon 😀
hellbugged ·
STIDUB wrote:more on that later in the week, gotta track down mustard to swap the T handle to the ball on my berg shifter, yes mr hellbugged ill take comparison pics like the bugtech
just use the other shifter i give ya for the pics LOL
STIDUB ·
dont think sides would like that too much, getting the thing all greasy & fingerprinted 😂
Sides ·
Yeah, don't even think about it ya sod !!!
😬
STIDUB ·
tint being stripped, paint bubbling away, should see bare metal/rust doors by the morning, chemicals rock 😀
bedtime!
Pumba ·
, thanks vwmad for those doors, hoping to strip them & ponder repair or just refit the glass into other doors i have
No worrys, was good to finaly meet up.
cheers shane.
jigga ·
so what shifter will you end up using?
STIDUB ·
will decide that once the bugtech has a slight adjustment & i get to test the berg in my own car again 🙂 -not too confident in bending the shaft of the bugtech though so dont expect to see that anytime soon 🤪
rx20na ·
damn this thing is gonna go good and look go when its done good on ya man
colonel mustard ·
tracked mustard down yet?
Sides ·
colonel mustard wrote:tracked mustard down yet?
Yeah - where is that dude... anyone know if he's still alive ???
Hang on a second.....
🤓
colonel mustard ·
i nearly wasn't alive a few times in the last month.... but now that i've changed tyres.... i should be around for a while.....
STIDUB ·
😂
a roughly painted in rattle can to stop rust door is on, nutserts installed, bolts in place, side skirts have begun, bugtech is modified to work 100% flawlessly, minor fix, probably caused by my shift rod being 1deg out, think the guy with the buggy at the nats may find the same solution works for him too 🙂 and sides, i need to see jezi with the shifter in, possible solution without bending the shaft! 😀
gotta track down the handbrake plate to hold the cables, oh and can anyone confirm the thread is M8x1.0? if i cant find my plate i might make up something pretty for it instead.
oh & mr buuutttlleeeeerrrr, i think ive found a few other "little" jobs to request of you, pretty please- aiming to get that bolt to you on wednesday since ill be 1/2 way down there at norwell for the vw driving experience thing 😀
dangerous ·
Sides ·
Bloody hell... that's a serious sized bolt there DB !!!
(well, either that or it's a really tiny pressure plate and flywheel from an RC car or somethin...)
dangerous ·
haha, that is Dave's oil filter tube.
He just wanted a tad more thread.
Has Dave passed on your rear camber adjusters?
STIDUB ·
nope, he gets em wednesday, and hopefully a spanner to adjust them too, once perfected i might punch out a few, oh and i was wrong, i now need 38 36 & 22mm for the rear adjustment, no matter tho, needs to be different shapes anyway.
DB i should see you later this week - hopefully, have the ally i required for fuel rail brackets too 😀
and... dub is on wheels, is low low low low low, engine/box mounts are mostly worked out, car will probably snap in half before it moves, apparently i overdo everything but oh well
and in sad news, i have to replace a rear 1/4 panel, i knew it was rough but stripped paint & horridifed how the repair was welded in so out with the grinders & drills, hello my other shell & off i go, should look ming when all done though - just very time consuming
sides, did i mention ive considered doing the dash swap on the ghia as a way of avoiding the rear 1/4 change? yup its pretty bad...
BIG load of pics & stuff coming soon, just ironing out some recent bugs
ps, thanks DB, that should be comfortably long enough to get everything tucked up nice & neat 👍
STIDUB ·
pending work demands & usual hecktic life should see u sometime over the weekend/monday, apparently a bucks is happening sat/sun so hopefully monday 🙂
and in unrelated news....
ive been playing with reality instead of theory/mental images, hard to get a noticably more appealing line/curve, theres just sooo bloody many!
more when the guards are actually glassed up for the ducting, neighbours dont like grinders at this time of night so cant do the metal stuff to put the guard on to do the glassing, oh well
im sure those interested get the idea
also the bottom along the sides sits 110mm from ground = perfectly legal
thats prior to tyres/wheels tucking/rubbing on anything too so im pretty happy, suspension could be wound down even more but no need, the idea then is to keep anything & everything at that height or more off the ground. yes including sump & exhaust, thats where it gets difficult!
peace out everyone its waaaaaaaaay past bedtime, for the vwdcq members, id love a coffee at the meet 😂
hellbugged ·
😵........when's the whale tail arrive?
Sides ·
dangerous wrote:Has Dave passed on your rear camber adjusters?
Heh, nah DB - only been back in the country a few days, but sounds like might get 'em tonite.
Suspect also owe someone some $$$ for 'em too - will fix that up tonite also.
hellbugged wrote:😵........when's the whale tail arrive?
I think he's got that coming in the same shipment as the neon's for under those side skirts... that plus the the thing that makes it sneeze every time change gear !!!
😉
Seriously tho STIDUB - some good progress dude !!!
Craig S ·
Sides wrote:I think he's got that coming in the same shipment as the neon's for under those side skirts... that plus the the thing that makes it sneeze every time change gear !!!
I was thinking the side skirts looked like the booms they put down on water to contain a oil spill. 😘
SebastienPeek ·
I must admit, it's definitely looking very, chunky?
I'm loving it though, keep the work and pictures coming!
STIDUB ·
have whale tail, not keen, one like steves maybe but i like the clean lines of a smooth lid 🙂
considering taking inspritation from rudi / penrose' cars & using something like this...
friends car, probably going to borrow it to see if i can commit to the idea or not, hopefully wont need it, certainly dont while its a garage dweller 😂
no neons, but something will be under them, no not leds either
yeah it does look fat, they dont call them fatchicks for nothing, im just feeding mine 3 curvy meals of kfc 7days a week
i like the fact it all sits nicely at the same width, front guards, rear guards, mirrors, and skirts will sit same width, roughly, looks... cleaner in a way, tried the stock running boards, the looked horridly undersized and wouldnt hide my water lines too well.
slightly upset i have to go to the club meeting & get stuff prior organised because im keen to get more done, engine/box mounts coming along but being nice & not doing metalwork after 9ish to keep the neighbours on my side 👍
more pics later tonight or tomorrow arvo hopefully!
hellbugged ·
You're a worry dave, those skirts are not for me, but hey your car so if you like the old Bulbous look.....
Jvl's wing is tha shiz if ever you've seen it
Track down some pics of miss vee dubs pink lady with similar skirts
STIDUB ·
yeah was stirred by sides tonight about the idea, theres not alot i can do to make it look right, the rest of the car is chunky/rounded so whats a guy to do?
1 flat/sharp line amongst it all seems a little odd. the older carerra side panels werent THAT bad, and look ok on the wpvw built green bug with aeros, though i dont really want that either, they have always looked rough to me, mostly from the big fat CARERRA moulded into it. alternative is a pinched in the middle version of whats in the pics, tapering in from the front guard & curving back out to the front edge of the rear guard, ive seen it done on a small scale once, looked ok, will try that next up
sides also mentioned the issue of it all going bye bye if i ever have the opportunity to hit a ripple strip at speed = goodbye 1/2 the panel essentially.
just like everything else i guess, lots of ideas/thoughts/attempts till im happy with the outcome, spent a year tracking those mirrors down remember 😂
now i put this to you... do i work 8hrs @ double time on sat, help my sister move house, or drive jezi for sides while he fiddles with tuning on the go...
tough call hey, for the $$$, the obligation, or the love(the bug not sides)
Jak Rizzo ·
havn't u finished this car yet?
better hurry up, at this rate they will have stopped making wrx engines & U won't be able to get parts!😉
U will end up having to scour swap meets for that elusive part, just like all the vintage nuts trying to find, then haggle over single port tinware😂
Jak
PS wings are like Gay Goats. Gay. Don't do it Dave
Sides ·
Actually... now that I think of it, I have a set of Carrera style skirts that DON'T have Carrera molded into them. From memory they're also fairly sensible size ones.
Possibly consider a trade for, I dunno... say a piece of Ally to re-do my dash ???
😉
Sides ·
Oh - and have you ever noticed how V8Supercars have the fronts of their skirts tucked WAY in ???
That's partly to try and stop the rumble strip problem... imagine how gooooone that side skirt would be if it was full width at the front. And that's the loaded side... on the unloaded side it can be even worse as the front wheel comes up BEFORE the body has started to react.
btw - realize have almost got you convinced STIDUB, but figure post up anyway for all your devoted fans.
😉
STIDUB ·
came up with something more subtle earlier sarvo 👍 will hopefully make some bits up to get a better idea if it will work well or not soon hehe, no pics this time
unfortunately i now have a dead commodore to fix, I HATE COMMODORES!!!!!!!!!
STIDUB ·
and on the ally, u will get it when ive used the sheet for what i need, measurements of what size u need it as would help too, minimal waste is the aim of the game 👍
dangerous ·
dangerous ·
STIDUB ·
DB, you wouldnt believe how happy i am, shit of a week at work - will tell ya when i visit next, but its all forgotten, cheers dude - steph reckons i could kiss ya, but i might send it her way instead 😉
picked up the bulk of the exhaust peices i needed from MIDWAY METALS! -plug plug plug! seriously cheaper than anywhere else for stainless 👍 only way cheaper i reckon is if you know someone with a sizable trade acct with them & get it at cost 👍👍👍
ps-working on that thing my mate suggested i grab for you 😉
kombi_matt ·
Hey mate, is that FD RX7 owned by a fella who works at Lakeside Raceway by chance? I've seen one there before that looks just like the one you posted above.
STIDUB ·
Yup that's it, he does both qr & lakeside, depends what's on
STIDUB ·
cough cough, wow i should stop working on other peoples cars 😂
Sides, lead wiping is out, seams found, it will be out either tonight or tomorrow, ill deliver when its done 👍 oh, and the air cleaner bases, stupid cast ally grrrrr!!!!!!!
Sides ·
Heh heh... it ain't slowin ya down really... you know I'll turn spanners on yours when the time comes, even tho it has a hair dryer !!!
👍
Back now, so should be here whenever you swing by... got an engine to bolt back into Jezzi now too, so plenty to keep me occupied...
😉
(btw - will need MAPP gun back too to anneal zorst gaskets)
STIDUB ·
can deliver bases & map gun in an hour or so if your keen, im at work tomorrow so you lose a day progress if i dont....
STIDUB ·
🙁 I should do more to this.
Turns out having a car mildly race worthy isn't as hard as I thought.
Should probably get stuck into it again right?
hellbugged ·
Yes you should!!!!!
Keep it simple, get it done!! Write a big list and work through it.... Pick big jobs when you have lots of time and the little ones in between to keep motivation going.
It's only a waste of time and money UNTIL you wheel it out and get some of the investment back
matberry ·
Hell yeah !!!!!
h ·
yeah c'mon get back into it
at this rate you need a place to secure ya walking stick when u finally start to drive it 😂
gerggl ·
Awesome ...great work!

Walking stick would make for an interesting shifter...
