hi there im pretty new to air cooled have a couple of q`s, i ve got a beetle with a 1600 in it im aiming for 200 - 250 hp ive been looking a lot at these crate motors or turnkey motors out there am i better off doing up the 1600 or buying a drag engine already built im a apprentice mechanic so if i do decide to build only parts cost are my worries

to big, if you are going to use it dayly go for an australian build, the warrenty alone will give you piece of mind creat engines are good but any problems will send you broke ,a 1835,1916 or even a 1776 will give you a reliable driver
good luck

You will not get that sort of HP from a 1600. Buying an engine from OS is taking a chance if anything goes wrong. Rod Penrose from here is probably the person to speak to but there are probably others that will be recommended as well. If you really want to buy from OS, try Jake Raby http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/home.php but be prepared to bring your wallet and it takes a while from ordering to receiving if you want him to build it. If you want to build yourself it is quicker to get the parts.
