Just wandering what the best solution would be to mount an oil cooler off my 1600 in my kombi without drilling the block, im guessing buying an external oil cooler fitting to the oil pump but is this a good solution and would i have to change the actual oil pump as well?any sugestions appreciated

i just ordered a full flow oil pump from classic vee dub which has an inlet and outlet for the oil cooler conversion so i guess that should do the job.Does anyone know if i would be a good idea to run an oil temp sender on the outlet line?

run a full flow cooler but you will have to drill n tap the case for the return

use a berg oil pump cover for the outlet and you will have to block the outlet side of pump and case so the oil flows into the cooler first then to the bearings

bugzla ·

explain why u have to do both the case and the pump dont the holes line up

I run a inline thermostate as well on mine so the oil is not running through the cooler all the time when cold, also a oil filter is a good investment

Is it a stock 1600?
do you have a temp gauge fitted now ?
what temp is it running ?

bugzla ·

in puting just a oil filter do u need to block the pump

i ran with that high flow when i was using the super charger, works great no fan it was suspended on a frame that was hung in the air intake on the 71 bus my
i wanted more oil so it would run cooler worked a treat ended up having 5.5 liters,as the oil is just as important to cooling as water is to the people on the dark side
happy humping

Hi

If its a twin port 1600 with the dog house cooler you can drill and tap the factory oil cooler bracket and put some fittings on it or you can buy oil pumps with outlets on them.

Steve

The standard oil cooler block tapped, sorry about the crap picture
