Hey there,

Okay there's a beetle i'm looking at currently looking at and there's a couple of issues I need to address.

Firstly I went to see it and had a good look round, the body is in great shape but there's a bit of oil hanging around underneath and on the engine and I just wanted to clarifiy and problems, its a 63 1200, the pic's are below (sorry having issues with attaching so there's a link)

OIL ISSUE PICS

Also it was missing like a tramp at a urinal, the owner hasn't run it properly for a long while so it's in desperate need of service, they then got back the day after to say she put some lead additive in, and it was working properly.... Mmmmmm..

Any help would be super 馃槈馃槑

nearly all vw's have oil dripping some bad some not so bad sounds ok even with the oil a good clean with degreaser will give you a good idea of where it from.
if it starts and runs ok it should be ok ,i would ask to start it whien cold
good luck

Hi

99% of beetle engines leak oil..
because they get so hot and the different metals expand at different rates.

The engine probably just needs a tune up...

Points changed and reset... timed

will usually make them go OK...

also the automatic choke needs adjustment each season at least... otherwise it will choke in summer when not needed..
and OVER choke in cold weather...

You need to know how to do these jobs with a beetle..

also change the oil... every 1000 miles..
and use an oil change gasket kit. [NOT expensive]
Castrol GTX2 [BIG W - cheapest]

cheers

PS: would be best to find someone on here who is close by to check out the beetle for you...
who can clean and set the points for you... LEE

1000 miles is a bit on the overkill side Lee 馃槀
id do that in 3 weeks

Factory interval is 3000miles/5000kms

Danny, if its been sitting around laid up for a while you can bet bottom dollar the carby needs a clean out, the fuel would be old (probably why the additive is making it run better) the points would need fileing and gapping and the plugs checking

not to mention common sense things like replaceing all the fuel hoses, filter, change oil and clean strainer with new gaskets etc
