Cant believe its 10.45am and there has not been one post in this section today (04/09/09). I said back in July that this site had slowed down and this proves it.
What can we do to pick things up ????? I know we aren't as big a community on VW as the yanks, but there are so many posts on one of their sites (wont mention one) that its hard to keep up with them all.

Perhaps it is a case of these little reliable air cooled engined cars just keep going and going and don't need things fixing as often as other cars?

its because I had to move desks at work. I'm now in the smae building on the same floor as my boss. My back now faces out to the corridor at the top of the stairs. I cant get on AVD anymore without risk of being clipped over the ear 馃檨

I rarely touch My computer until after 8PM or Later... also, My Son has been using My computer the past months but He has His own now...

Am i the only person that doesnt really care about the login issue? The majority of browsers can auto-complete your login and password so it is just a matter of pressing one button when you visit the site. Not to hard lol

Yep, in a previouse life I was loged on automaticaly each time I visited AVD, not now tho, once I log on I stay loged on tho so I don't have the problem others are reporting of log in droping out, it's not realy a big deal loging on just user name and pass word, what's so hard about that, I'm a happy little vegemite here.馃槏

if you are upset about having to log in everytime, maybe you should pick a shorter user name and password, coz its really not that big a deal is it?

I log in everytime....I have never known anything different, and it hasn't stopped me checking back in here a couple of times a day.

is AVD dying? not straight away, but there seems to have been steadily less action on the site since other forums, like for instance DSK started. The dunebuggy&baja site had a similar but much smaller effect. I reckon this is for two reasons. First up, splitbus and buggy owners just wanted to talk about their particular style of car without stuff that has no relation to them. Secondly, and sadly, we've had a collection of narrowminded idiots abuse and harrass people on this site in a way that doesn't seemed to have happened on other forums that I've spent time on. All the reasons have been petty but damaging, eg. "don't cut early metal", "stroker V 1916", "aircooled V non-VW engines", "og restored V full-custom", and the most petty of all, "I know better than everyone else". The latter being the most damaging. A good portion of the people I know that left went for the second reason rather than the first. I don't know whether we didn't moderate strictly enough or whether VWers have more idiots than other crowds but there it is. As many of you know, I myself was gone for some time and I have to say, I don't spend nearly as much time here as I used to.

There is a report post button next to each post that is made on the forum, if any member observes something that is not nice directed towards another member, use the button,
People have the right to do whatever they want with their cars, if they want to fit a Volvo engine to their oval window Beetle and really hot it up well that's their choice, I might not agree with it, but putting people down for doing what they want with their own car is not really very nice.
If someone asks for opinions "what should I do with my 71 beetle" that is a good opportunity for someone to say keep it original or "slam it on early's" (whatever they are)
We should all be respectful and remember that we are here to enjoy our VW's

I'm glad someone else is seeing what I am talking about and not an issue with logging on. I have recently met a guy that has been building a bug for years with a Subaru engine and 6 rib kombi box and he thinks they are the only answer and others shouldn't waist their time. Whilst I like what he has done, I do not agree with him fully but these are his preferences and thats that. We have now become good friends and when it comes down to it we are all fellow VW'ers.
I agree that others may have jumped ship to go to a fully dedicated (eg Kombi, Buggy etc) site and think this has slowed down the action here. I am not expecting this site to be anything like the yanks, as they out number us greatly. I was simply expressing my views that things had slowed down on AVD.
I am definitely not giving up on this site and I hope others dont as well.

I am one of the types that dissapear for weeks and then resurface. But i have to say I dont see this as slower at all with my viewing history. Maybe I would even go so far as saying it is faster. Anyway suits me perfect and tho I may dissapear for awhile (i was wondering why I was being logged out lol, one problem of being sporadic) I will always return

the report button hasn't always been there, and by the time someone's hit it, the damage is probably already done.
I've reflected a lot on the issue and it seems to me that the problem is the same as in situations of "roadrage". you can't see the persons face, so you type whatever you want and don't consider the consequences. we have plenty of room for passion round here, but it needs to be tempered with some selfcontrol and consideration for other people's feelings.
the other thing is, and dare I say it, but some of the most destructive attacks were carried out by people high up within the scene that should know better. two events spring to mind during which it seemed the forum was literally haemoraging members. you can't undo that sort of damage, especially when some of the people behaving badly inside and outside the forum are in control of it. sorry to be so confrontational, but the most recent one almost made me leave straight up.
hopefully we can all learn from this and I don't get censored the moment I post this. otherwise the forum really is doomed. 馃ゲ

/I agree with the facebook comment, it seems like the thing to do for 13 to 30 year olds in particular to be into these days . I know alot of my evening hours are spent of facebook, its not nessassary but seems to be part of current modern culture. It does seem pointless when yoyu think about the way we intereact with people.... it could be cut out completely and life would still work.
In reference to comments above about less traffic here due to other forums, is there a way the forum (AVD) could be restrucutred to meet your interests/needs more? For example, data bases of information about vw's/engines ect - more specific categories, ie superbeetles, ovals, post 67 beetles etc...

Report post has been an option since we went from the eziboard freeby thing as far as I know. I was a moderator until 4-5 years ago and it was around then. Unless there was a racist comment on here I cant imagine when I'd ever feel like clicking on it.

I'd gladly spam the site with trip reports and other such things. All it'd take would be spare parts donations. Parts to offer up as sacrifices to my part slaying monstrosity of a bay.
I can't really post on much of anything these days. No other AVW members live nearby anymore, fixing my VW is at a functional standstill, and I can't register it until I've fixed it. So not much to report.
About all I've done with it recently is paint the battery tray and adjust the valves yet again. Oh and replace another (*%&*^*#$ fuel pump. And give it yet another battery. It keeps killing the things. Yes, it's charging fine. And I have an isolator that I use whenever it's not running. I don't know. The last battery, an Exide, was only just out of warranty too.
I also moved house again recently, meaning I haven't been on here as often.

Even me! After exhaustively diggin myself into that many graves on avd threads that i ended up out the othe side of the earth to China more than a dozen times, i still been a member for 4 + years!
Just gotta have thick skin, open mindness and know that there is always someone on here to help with any vw confusion/query.
I even remember starting on the wrong foot back in the day, listing everyone as "Chumps" in the title of my thread, without fully understanding the meaning behind it. People were insulted big time 馃檪. I was still a school boy then!

No disrespect to the admin on here as you've got a great site, and i really don't mean to speak out of turn, but there must be SOMEBODY who can sort this out once and for all?
If it was going to take 6 hours of hard graft with a shovel and digging a 12ft hole in the ground i could kinda get it a bit more, but in reality surely all it requires is somebody who knows what they are doing to copy and paste some code on the interwebs for 10 mins?

I know logging in isn't that big-a-deal really, but often when i go to post something, generally it's not exactly life changing info, so if i go to post and then find i've been logged out for the 5th time i usually don't bother logging in again, unless it's info that could help someone out.

Well I'm back....found out i was expecting and it was very high risk so i was flat on my back for the pregnancy and went into labour after i was put in Intensive Care.
But she's here now and I'm glad to be back.
The Bug is about 3 weeks off of bein on the road for the first time since i rescued her! I'm happy as a pig in shit!

For those who have left AVD because of someone's posting telling them they should have done it this way or that is pretty lame to be honest. I don't know how many of you frequent other car make forums but I generally find the VW forums to be very very tame as far as ridicule and put downs are concerned. there are a lot of different opinions on how to do certain things when it comes to Volksy's from those who have been around for quite a while. I disagree with quite a few with the opinions and ways but at the end of the day i simply agree to disagree and do things to my Volksy the way i want to do them. There are quite a few on here that I simply have to say their info is absolutely invaluable to me and has saved my ass from from some big no no's in the past. that is why i still have a look on here every other day as no matter how long you have been around VW's there is always something new to learn every day from a different person.
Some of you should take a peak at Boostcruising ( I call it boostlosing LOL) if you want to be just hammered about what you are doing to your car. Not to mention that you own a VW and want to make it faster will get all the P platers with their fully sik VL's really giving it to you.
It's a cut throat world out there but I enjoy coming on here and a few other VW forum in the search for the answer to yet another question...
