https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/78919/so-whats-everyone-on-here-listen-to-then

djnee ·

Just wondered if any of us share musical tastes?

Besides the whole dance music thing which i've been doing for the past 5 years or so there's also a heap of bands i like too.

I can categorise them into 2 sections though....there's stuff i totally LOVE and are always on my playlist, and other bands that i'll listen to if i fancy a change!

Never off my playlist are:

The Get Up Kids
Morrissey
Mineral
Explosions In The Sky
This Will Destroy You

And i dip in and out of:

Snow Patrol
The Killers
The Editors
The Tragically Hip
Radiohead
Placebo
Rival Schools

Sorry if the thread has been done a million times (usually has!)

I have old school rock next to gangsta rap next to dance next to reggae next to thrash next to the interesting mashup that is skacore (hardcore ska, a lol-worthy adventure). I have 14 000 songs stretching over 32 days though so, you know, room for all

Dirtbag ·

METAL!!!!!!!! LOTS OF METAL!!!!!!!! Yes, I said metal, so that does not include pus like AC/DC : )

ratbug ·

Pretty much anything that gets played on TripleJ.

CDs in the car at the moment include:

PNAU
Presets
Prodigy
Sonic Animation
Waiting for the new Massive Attack.

Shit, I must be getting old. Not that I am a big music listener, but out of the above I have only heard of Radiohead and Placebo.

I still like Cold Chisel, Beach Boys, AC/DC, The Angles, Meatloaf, Elvis (that will get some comments), Choir Boys, Ice House and more.

I guess its what you grow up with :-)

Signing off, the old bugger - Kev

DaveCarter ·

The lead guitarist for new empire went to school at my school then came back as a media teacher for a while. Nice bloke. Caught my bus. And as for supporting local small bands we can all name some small obscure bands that no one has ever heard of. Or you can come out of the closet and admit how much you love listening to Miley

colonel mustard ·

Im not saying I do or Don't like listening to her, I just said she can't sing very well at all really, out of your nose is not a good breathing technique.

pod ·

late 70`s early 80`s and some 60`s , and kev... elvis is good too oh and the other 2 genres country and western and aussie rock ,divinyls ,mentals angels, rose tattoo,ac/dc,models ,split enz ,hunters and collectors, matt finish ,spy v spy you get the drift but i`m an old fart too, just ask my kids😂😁

DaveCarter ·

Ease up man. You will break her heart. Her achey breaky heart

colonel mustard ·

^^ ah. sooooo lame. hahaha

Dude, when you say ska, you talking... reel big fish? Half way out? that sort of gear?

DaveCarter ·

From bob marley (the wailers were ska before reggae and ska formed reggae common misconception yadda yadda) up to reel big fish and everything in between. Not so into fish anymore though. Big D and the Kids Table are a good example of some good modern stuff (try a solng called noise complaint). Never heard half way out. Will look them up when my internet is uncapped

Pauld ·

at the moment loving hilltop hoods shes so ugly, its awesome, the rest of that album is good to also tzu are good as the first time i saw them play was one of the best live shows iv seen, also a bit of a country nut running from the old school alan jackson thru to brad paisley, big and rich cowboy troy, adam brand, lee kernaghan , trace adkins, just to name a few

colonel mustard ·

Halfwayout are no longer together, but were a bit AUS ska band.. well, thats how id define them anyway

DaveCarter ·

for good aussie ska the only 2 real big players that i know of these days (got a bit out of the scene) are los capitanes from canberra and the porkers from newcastle. Seen them live more times then i can count (once when i was one of 12 people in the crowd lol). Awesome energy live and fun to liten to

STIDUB ·

depends on the mood.. various artists/genre's from 60s till now, slightly less of now though commercial radio music is getting worse by the minute these days, same goes for tv 👍 in fact, just about anything except screaming crap metal or country gets a play every week for me 🙂

Mick058 ·

Anything but country - can't stand country. Alot of good bands up there.

Also, some different stuff

At The drive in
Mars Volta
Sparta
Muse
Circa Survive

Check out my band - some of our stuff here. Fission and Candy are the newer songs.

http://www.myspace.com/paradymetheband

Goitsy ·

I listen to Triple J everyday so most of the stuff on there.👍
Always seem to listen to:
Hilltop Hoods
Pendulum
The Prodigy
Disturbed
Ramstein
Kaiser Chiefs
Marilyn Manson

LukeV85 ·

been listening to alot of random stuff lately

Icehouse early stuff
Bob Marley
Machinations
Uriah Heep
Goldfrapp
George Benson

Random but awsome

Gary L ·

New stuff Wolfmother, Lilly Allen I find her attractive and Eskimo Joe
However still like the old stuff Cold Chisel, Angels, Metallica, The Church and the Sunnyboys.
Left of Centre like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
😎😎😎

amazeer ·

I wont listen to opera or death metal but most things in between are OK.

I like Lilly Allen. I've got her Alright Still CD. A bit of a got sort too. But if by some freak of nature she tries to hook up with me I want someone to shoot me. Geez the woman is harsh on her ex's.

A little excited to be seeing Little Birdy next week so that has been getting a high rotation lately. But also going through an 80's rock phase. Angels a few weeks back, Rose Tattoo coming up in October, ACDC in March.

helbus ·

I can handle almost anything playing in the background at work, but I loath, detest and my head nearly pops when the bloody ads start on commercial stations. I get sick of hearing about half price tiles. Yeah I can get a bit sick of talkback, but it is at least different each time. Those ads are so repetitive and annoying it is insane.

Oh and I really like raw uncut live and amature stuff on the radio. The element of inconsistency appeals to me.

What about blowhard?

1916baja ·

And for me... Punk rock all the way baby!

Nofx, propagandhi and everything in between! I have just discovered "A wilhelm scream" WOW. Dave (davobuggy 1641) and i are in a band and have been for the better part of 10 years now. We are called Align. (www.myspace.com/alignpunkrock)

Over the years i have found that some of the best punkrock i have heard is right here in brisbane. Bands like: The quickening, Dick nasty, Bad day down, Knaw (R.I.P.) and many many more.

Mick.

Yeah I know its not for everyone, I mean I hated all the music they played as a kid when all my mates were listening to it, but then it just grew on me and I now love it.

As for respect, true they play a variety of genres and some may not be to taste to everyone, including some songs with colourful language, but thats when you change over and play a CD 😎
The presenters also know their music, check out Myf from Spicks and Specks (ok she's moved on but she grew up on JJJ). I think more disrespectful radio is the like of Kyle Sandilands.

Haven't heard em mate. I will have to give them a go. Like i said it has been a few years since i have been out and about to local ska gigs so im a bit out of the loop as far as sydney/australian ska/punk talent goes. The last news on that front is the break up of Unpaid Debt. After that i kinda stopped

Scarab ·

Hey guys, some great stuff already listed here....I'll add my bit too....

Thanks Mick....will check 'em out.

I checked out your Myspace page too, loving your band mate, you've got a great sound!

Mick058 ·

cheers mate - its our little Oasis from work. We dont play as much as we used to, but always a good feeling playing a gig and playing 'Rockstar' for an hour or so 👍

Scarab ·

nice work Mick....at least you are actually doing what most of us dream of doin!

The closest I got was buying a really expensive guitar, learning to play a bit, then letting it sit in the corner for the next 6 or so years....now my 13 year old son is rocking out on it 🙁 I am happy for him though, he loves it! He has the potential to do well with it though, I think he has talent, but I guess I'm a biased father! 😂

All the best mate....hey what's the scoop on your bug, no updates for a while.....????

Mick058 ·

cheers mate!

Yeh, bugs getting there - just saw Brad - fitting bigger front brakes is proving fun with dropped spindles, offset and stupid Porsche wheels!!! Should have it next week...should

cnfabo ·

i could go on for ages but realy do not like doof doof dj shit, cant stand it.. bring back bands any day.sorry to those who i offend...

at the moment im digging dave mathews band.. just saw them in england,, soo good...

donovan ·

thanks to youtube, i sat down yesterday after work and relived my youth.

and dave warner, the original australian punk

Scarab ·

Hey Colonel....reliant K eh? good stuff mate! 😵

chunks54 ·

Another vote for At the Drive In & Mars Volta....

But the rest of the time its stuff like Led Zeppelin, bit of AC/DC, Smashing Pumpkins, the Lemonheads, Blind Melon, Matthew Jay, stone toses, foo fighters.... loads of stuff.

DaveCarter ·

Can't beat at the drive in and the Mars Volta. I saw the volta live at the hordern. They played for 3 hours straight, no breaks, no discernible song change. It was the craziest and most talented performance i have ever seen

colonel mustard ·

Scarab wrote:Hey Colonel....reliant K eh? good stuff mate! 😵
sadly they only played for about 35 minutes... but it was amazing. as was new empire. 🙂 love it. Youth Alive gets a 6.5/10 for me...
