Distance beat me this time so hope that the Qld weather was kind to you all and that you had a good day. Looking forward to seeing some photos.

Snap Crackle Bang ·

You missed a very good event!
Weather was perfect, venue was excellent and some very nice cars, as always.

One complaint - that gorgeous 914 isn't mine!

Baja Wes ·

I didn't quite know why the 914 was there?

Good day out. A few new cars I hadn't seen before.

ibmoknegawsklov ·

what a top spot for a show.......had a great time.

Well the 914 was always marketed as a VW Porche...........

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

914 has a Vw badge on one side and a Porsche badge on the other. It was commonly called the car that neither company wanted to take ownership of!!

alien8 ·

I want the rims off it.
I agree that it is a good spot for a car show.
Me and the boy with a burger under a shade tree looking over the event was all time.

The 914 definately has a better place at a vw show than those plastic off road things with non vw engines in them.😂

BiX ·

What have you been up to JohnyB?

I ahve to give you and K a call. Been way to long!

Its not the same action day, without you running around trying to do all the jobs at once!

LUFTMEISTER ·

Still no pics and no results?

Baja Wes ·

There's a Buggy / Baja class, but no 914 class, so I beg to differ 🙅

66deluxe ·

Oh i beg to differ what are you Happy Gilmores boss with a nail in your head, the 914 is still porsche vw so it can be there.

LUFTMEISTER ·

Sshhh its the bastard child no one from both families wants to talk about (like the 924 Porsche) They wander the earth looking for respect and never finding it. 😢

ibmoknegawsklov ·

😂 hey i think the 914 had more vw parts in it than some of the off roaders any way.......................

Cheers Grahame.

Peter_D_C ·

😍 I heart this car 😍

Snap Crackle Bang ·

Should there be a Porsche class next year? VW now owns Porsche after all.
Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborgini and Bugatti could enter as well.

Sides ·

Yeah, categories is a tough one - ideally you want to have enough to keep everyone happy, but at the same time it possibly doesn't make sense to have a category with only 1 or 2 entries. Should Country Buggy's get their own category for example.

For Action Day this year we decided the categories based on what cars entered the previous year, so yeah - the list might be different next year.

Oh and re the 914 being the bastard child that no-one wants - hell I'd love to have one of 'em as a nice little track toy !!!

👍

Baja Wes ·

There were a few categories with only 1 car, so yes I understand it's tough to decide which categories to keep and which to drop. Although I think the country buggy / buggy / baja combined class probably had one of the higher numbers of entries at the show.

For me I just take my car to add some variety to the show. I know people like looking at it, particularly kids - they love to pose for photos near it 🙂

As for the 914, I've been going to VW shows for 15 years and I don't think I've seen a Porsche enter the show before. Therefore I was naturally a little surprised to see one.

You would right on the money there!😂

vwsteve ·

914 motor is pretty much a kombi motor, let him come if he wants to, hey bring on the 356 porsches!

VDUBXTC ·

Hasn't there been a porsche of some discription been entered in the last couple of shows up here in brisbane?.

I don't mind them being there. they are still a vw in a way

Baja Wes ·

I dont' mind them there, I just didn't know why it was there. I mean, if I owned a Porsche, I wouldn't take it to a VW show 😵‍💫

Andy ·

914's like 411/412 have been on again/off again at shows mainly due to low numbers in Oz. I have seen them about at shows over the years though.
914/4 didn't share much with VW other than the motor and I think a couple of suspension bits.
They are a little more visible at shows down south.
I think there's room at VW's shows for 356's, 914's, 912's etc that did have a link back to the VW factory, just like Karman

dangerous ·

Are there any other pictures from this event?

tuff914 ·

bump

tuff914 ·

Oh no this is my fault I own the bastard child 914, Folks I did not go expecting or wanting to win a trophy, why did I take it, Mainly because there are'nt that many around and I thought some one may enjoy having a poke around it. Also the action day flyer had a picture of a 911 on it( help me out here, the yellow car, can any one else see it, anyone.........). I appologise to those who I upset/offended that was not my intention, I am truly sorry.

If I may, even though it's been touched on above, the cars DNA
Body built at Karmann factory, same one as Karmann Ghia's (I can prove this as they both rust at exactly the same rate)
VW type IV (modified) motor similar to KOMBI
VW brakes VW wheels VW Switches (lights wipers ignition etc) VW idiot lights.
Porsche gearbox front suspension speedo and tacho.

So where does it belong, Porsche guys think w#*nker in a VW, VW guys think w@*nker in a porsche, maybe i am a w@*nker but you know I like the car
and I can live with that.

I really enjoyed the show, loved all the cars and look forward to next year, maybe just as a spectator.

If this one has no cred here, maybe my past cars will get me out of trouble, 60's bug, 60's baja, 71 beetle, 77 Kombi Camper

Thanks for letting me rant
cheers
John
ps this is my second attempt at this post if it appears twice sorry for that as well

LUFTMEISTER ·

No one was offended. It is great to see our Porsche brothers mixing with the Dubs. See ya at the next meet.

oldskl60 ·

I was not there long but managed a couple pics... It was a good day and great venue. Great job guys.

Hi John,

This is an internet forum, so people love to take everything out of context. Your 914 didn't offend me. I just said I didn't quite know why the owner would want to bring a 914 to the VW show. It seemed like a pretty logical thing for someone to wonder when someone brings a Porsche to a VW show.

You just explained why you wanted to bring it, and that's cool 🙂 Just because you can is reason enough.

I never intended to imply that I didn't think it shouldn't be there or anything crazy like that. 😎

Baja Wes ·

And here's some pics for those people that don't like those fiberglass beach buggies and non-VW engined VW's.

Aaron's awesome 20B kombi - 715RWHP

Very nice 5L V8 kombi

Graham's Buggy

My 2.5L V6 Baja - I just put new LED tail lights on it

Unknown buggy with cool 80's glitter gel coat

An old dude checking out Leon's cool twin turbo, twin intercooled EFI trike

colonel mustard ·

ha. that old due is awesome. haha. the trike must have come late, i didnt see it... :S

Sides ·

tuff914 - although I didn't get to the show to see it, I reckon most would see your 914 as more than welcome. As to why you'd take it to the show... hell if I had a 914, I'd take it to every VW and Porsche show that I had the time for !!!

Cool pics Wes, and man that new turbo on Aaron's kombi is just Huuuuuuuge !!! Is it just me, or does the old dude checking out Leon's trike have wheelie bars fitted (first photo) ??? Maybe he's scoping the competition for Warwick....

😉

Baja Wes ·

I took my niece to the VW show, it was her first car show ever (she didn't know what a car show was, and she's 15!). We were both giggling at the old dude checking out Leon's trike, thinking it would get him down to the local RSL much faster 🙂

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·

I'd personally love to see old 356's and 914's at a Vw show. I'd love to won a 914 and have the cash to bomb the hell out of it with a nice big 2.8L with all the goodies to hit the track and then a have a stocko one as well.

did anybody see the imaculate silver 365 at Klub fest in june?? I for one was drooling along with a lot of other people.....

Andy ·

Hi John,
I certainly enjoyd seeing it there, and had a good look at yours, I have always liked them.
As a 411 owner, it's also a bit of an outcast, many VW enthusiasts wouldn't even recognise it.
I was there in the kombi instead 🙂

thast the one - cheers 😁

colonel mustard ·

the red one in the second last photo is what i drove to action day 🙂

Midlife crisis ·

I would like to see more of the other makes Like Porsche,Audi etc come to the shows so that we can have a class for them as well as they are or were part of the VW family which in turn makes a bit more money for the club putting the show on so next years is bigger and better.

This is what I think right or wrong.

Mar

colonel mustard ·

i think there should be an allll vw area, and only cars with stickers judged. it was a shame too see so many reallllly good vw's not in the show area.

vassy66T1 ·

The gel coat on the buggy is cool!!

psimitar ·

Man that looked like a wicked show 🙂 why oh why did I have to have the flu/gastro????

Love the 914. reminds me a little of early 70's fiat something or others but cool car anyway you want to look at it.

there was a whole bunch of 356's up at Birches, Mt Mee last weekend. Just went for a drive and came across them. Bloody marvelous but no camera on me 🙁 plus an old bently too I think 🙂

I think the early Porsches can be seen as VW cos of there similarities or development. All good at the end of the day cos they look lovely and who wouldn't want one 😀
