tassy74ida ·

desh ·

tassy74ida; can you tell us a bit about your car and what you have done to it?

What sort of speed are you looking to get out of it in quarter mile time and in top speed?

I don't really know anything about this sort of stuff but do find it quite interesting,

thanks

tassy74ida ·

handycam tell us a bit about your manx??

desh I bought the car around 8 years ago for the hefty price of $800 and that was with 12 months rego!! ha ha I then like most people on this site got bitten by the bug so to speak!! Car mods well I just say the basics, 48 idas, jacobs ignition system, merged racing headers and fat boy muffler, gearbox was assembled by dave butler and ratios are set up for 1/4 mile only!! just put a new front beam narrowed 2" and 2 1/2" drop spindles, new ball joints, tie rods etc.... lots more stuff but nothing left of field..

utter buggery ·

sounds good, should see it there on the 14th then 😎

tassy74ida ·

Off to the track tomorrow. Trying a few different things eg. Less weight , less rolling resistance etc.. will post up some times and footage over the weekend!!

dangerous ·

Look forward to your "track report" Andrew!

Rural Baja ·

Yea let us know how you go hey! I should bring the 64 along for shits and giggles haha.

What other Vw's have you got?

Chees Bill

dangerous ·

Any track report yet!?

tassy74ida ·

yay good news just got back from the track!!! I run a pb tonight 13.56@95mph and made it to the second elimination round of super street!! Found out some interesting info tonight also dave!! Im crossing the line at wait for it 8400 rpm I really need 28" tyres before next meet cause i can feel it loose power at the end of the track. and slight valve bounce : ( all in all very happy and lots of room for improvment! oh yeah 1.7 sisxty footers also..

tassy74ida ·

first round of eliminations .. very excited at the time : )

VWFREAK ·

Nice one Andrew, she looks a little quick than the last time I saw you run in Darwin 🙂

tassy74ida ·

GOOD WORK ANDREW!!
I think your tach may be playing up.
Even with a 26" tyre,
95mph with your gearing should be around 6750rpm.

Get some slicks on that sucker!

handycam ·

i hope to make it out soon for a look i had a dam birthday on, anyway good stuff good vid .many at meet with the track under new managers????

utter buggery ·

The joint was packed, more people there than I have seen in the last couple of years, except TassieNats. Heaps of cars, heaps of people. One would say it was extremely successful. 😎

jamiec ·

Hi tassy74ida was great to see the bug there and that awsome run againts that blown v8 ford hardtop twodoor everone cheered when the bug took out the the ford😂

I can see myself in that last pic🙅

tassy74ida ·

hey jamiec did you come and say hi? will have to have a chat next meet if your going??

jamiec ·

No one was around when i had a look at your bug out the back.Next time i will try to find you. What size is the motor?

tassy74ida ·

Hey quick update, New M/T 28x9 slicks arrived today. Was in the process of showing my engine some love before the next meet and had a spark plug slash burnt helicoil looking thing come out of the head together>> : ( No probs engine out and will fix the problem over the weekend. Um mesured the stroke and it is a 86mm crank which was a bit of a shock. hear are a few pics of the inlet ports, any feed back would be appreciated. Not to sure what type of port etc they are. Will post some footage of the maden voyage with the slicks on next weekend... : )

dangerous ·

Man, wait to see how fast you go with some bigger ports!

The inlet flange dowel hole,
and closed boss on the top corner of the casting under the head-nut
says they are most likely early 1970s 113 heads as a base.

bit hard to measure the stroke thru the plug hole,
but when you take off the heads to upgrade them (hehe),
you can check it then.

look forward to slicks results!

tassy74ida ·

rear tyres on 28x9" tuff as fuck!!!! cant waqit to see 60ft times with these bad boys on the back!!!

tassy74ida ·

Got some wiring done today for the line lock and started to play round with the clutch dampner.
Has anybody been using or has used this setup at all?

Line lock switch mounted in steering wheel

tassy74ida ·

Pretty much ready for tomorrow only a few small jobs left. Had engine out for some small repairs and a tidy up.. Track report later tomorrow, had a play with the line lock tonight and works a treat : )

dangerous ·

jonnyb ·

Good to see how well you went yesterday. Made me stay till 11.14pm (ok did not make me stay I was just enjoying watching your runs right through to the final). A pleasure to meet you and you certainly impressed the folk around me in the stands.

tassy74ida ·

Hello to all I come bearing good news, First would like to say thanks to' handycam' and 'Jonny b ' for chatting with me last night will have to catch up at some stage for some VW DNM's ha ha... hope you enjoyed the show!!!
anyways rolled the car off the trailer early about lunch time temps were ok for tassy standards, first run off the trailer..

Reaction / sixty / E.T. / MPH

*1 / .499 / 1.86 / 13.45 / 97.40 pb

*2 / .632 / 1.78 / 13.32 / 98.25 pb

*3 / .487 / 1.70 / 13.43 / 80.79 hard on brakes as to not brake out!! felt real good!!

*4 / .430 / 1.77 / 13.47 / error they had troubles with timing gear all night!! : (

so there are the results for the night. Was a late one but loved every minute of it, only small issues come out from the night so very happy..

also forgot to mention my soon to be wife hit the track for the first time and i think she may be hooked now!!!😂
best move i could have ever made i think... ha ha
here are a couple of pics not a vw but still pretty cool. imo
ha ha i think i can see slight amounts of fear in her eyes? ha ha she assures me it wasnt!!

reub ·

Nice work dude.
Look forward to catching up soon.

dangerous ·

NICE WORK DUDE!
Those slicks really worked out well!

tassy74ida ·

yeah cant wait to catch up reub!!
The slicks worked out really well dave was very happy. Um what would you consider to be a good oil pressure? I had my oil pressure drop a little it was around 50 psi i think at the end of my last run but i think it sat higher than that before. I have change my oil from 10w 60 to 25w 50 its synthetic castrol stuff any info would be appreciated 😵

handycam ·

good to meet you mate and have to catch up fo shore have to pull my finger out with my car over xmas

tassy74ida ·

Hi all
quick update, Missed out on round three last night due partly to my current un-employment and subsequent lack of funds. ha ha On a lighter note I have the bug
pretty much back to road rego standards. Will be at the Tassy Power cruise next weekend where I will compete in the 1/8 mile drags, power skid and might even have a crack at the burnout comp. Will post up footage and photos next weekend..

reub ·

Joys dude... not good to hear about work though.
Say g'day to Gup for me at powercruise!

tassy74ida ·

what a great weekend had a ball... went in powerskid for a laugh and also got through to second round of off street drag racing. Only to be lined up next to the same guy that won the dyno shoot out for the weekend.however wasnt put to sham only being beaten by about 1 1/2 car lengths... had troubles sat night with a broken clutch cable but was able to sort things out with the help of aussie vee dubbers web site, and some really helpful local vw enthusiast who let me remove parts from there own vehicle!!!!! unreal..... anyways hear is a couple of pics ...

start of my power skid!! spun a few people out... ha ha

heading down the back straight at symonds plains raceway

just about to line up for off street drags..

tassy74ida ·

also managed to get the bug on the dyno for a run , running a bit rich in the carbs she managed 125hp was happy with that...

tassy74ida ·

also had a look in the local paper today and it would appear as though they didnt have much to talk about!!! as im fourth page news and headline the sports section!!! ha ha

what about the four carb setup and the chev rods??? ha ha this guys not going to let the truth get in the way of a good story!!! ha ha anyways ill take my fifteen seconds of fame no worrys😂😂

dangerous ·

COOOOOOOOL MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reub ·

Nice work dude!

matberry ·

👍 👍 Well done. getting that thing sorted now. That's good power too. 🙂

dangerous ·

5500 rpm at 120km/h, gotta love that.
Gee, tough dyno hey Andrew?
Gotta be the only 125hp , low 13 second VW I have ever seen!
They might have fudged it to save embarasment!

Downer Dave !!!😂. Trying to ruin a good story with FACT

tassy74ida ·

cheers .... they guy who owns the dyno was pretty impressed with the motor, and suggested he would be able to help extract a little better tune out of it.. I was just happy to see it on a dyno as have had the car around 7 years now and has never set foot on a set of rollers. Only the big black dyno!! ha ha and yeah dave the dyno ?? not sure but there were some pretty serious cars there over the weekend and some of the figures showing on the computer screen where a little low in my opinion. Not complaining about my sheet though.... Might have to start shopping for some real heads though!!!!🥷🥷

jamiec ·

Nice job at the power cruz mate 😎 i wish i could have been there to support you but had to work😬

66brm ·

Hey Andrew long time no hear, good to see the car getting faster, well faster than when eddie owned it, will have to catch up some time
