Hi Guys

When you are fitting your new engine compartment seals, how do you fit the one closest to the bumper bar. Also which way is up lol, when you fit it, should the rubber face up or down as in this attached pic.

Thanks Trevor

You've got it the correct way there. Get a mate or two to help you.
Use WD-40 to help it slide in easier.

yep the way yr holding it remove the old seal ( easier to do with the engine out )

make sure the metal lip is straight and not pushed in

Just to throw a different view out there

Cut it in half
About where your thumb nail is - length wise
Then put it in upside down - using the piece where the red arrow is
It will then be sticking up in the air
When you put the rear tin on it pushes against it and gives a VERY neat seal

If you do it the "propper" way you are relying on the rear tin clipping into the end - which it never does, especially on the sides above the heads.

That is how i installed mine and it works VERY well

I will take some pictures on the weekend if you are interested

I am curious what year Beetles that seal fits. Mine is a '68 and quite different as it has 2 layers with the tin supposedly in between. Am wondering whether I could use that style seal on my '68?

'68 and onwards uses the pictured seal, '67 and earlier uses the two flap seal.
