?? Why is driving a 1970 Beetle in Sydney's rain, 'heroic'?
The car has existed for 40 years, it must have been driven in rain many times before over its life. I drove my '64 in Sydney for 20 years and never had any problem so long as:
1. The heater was in working condition
2. The tyres and wiper blades were good and all the lights worked
3. You keep a hanky in your pocket to wipe the inside of the windscreen and
4. Allow plenty of space to avoid other idiots on the road
I drove my '74 Kombi in the rain on Saturday arvo - same applies !

im with OMClarke - i had a 69 beetle and when it poured you couldn't see a thing! WHAT WINDOW WIPERS - and yes, they were in good and 'working' condition.
Worst still was the splash back from cars across the road - just keep driving and hope not to hit anything.
Fair comment i reckon...

my windscreen got owned last night, and i couldnt see anything at all. darn rain!

Pffttttt, blouses I reckon. '69 has perfect wipers when all working properly. Try an oval or splitty in the same conditions.

I've pulled over in my 58 before. An old beetle with no demister and poor wipers is no match for a good monsoonal down pour up here in Darwin (we get around 1500mm of rain in 4 months).
...mind you, the 135's on the front cut through the water great 🙂
