It should look alot like these, they are the same car different views.
They are going to do the bar work and a few other things a little different though.:thumb
daz67 ·
Oh I see now....
Yeah something like that....
daz67 ·
Now the Build starts.
They have their work cut out, it has to be ready and reliable before the Beach trip in November.....
Andy42 ·
i wish them all the luck to do it in that time, we struck a few probs with ours but mainly a lack of time🙂 I have sent you an email as well.
daz67 ·
I have forwarded onto Mic, I think it would be a good idea to try and catch up with you and check out your buggy. Any chance of this Sunday?
Can call me on 0419665725.
Thanks

Funny place for an oil cooler

I think it may end up a little higher, on the cage maybe?
Brad ·
I dunno I have seen some pretty crazy ideas from up that neck of the woods😀:P
wibble ·
Have had one mounted in front of the fan intake, seemed to work well, yeah I know it's heating the air going into the motor but in a buggy getting plenty of air flow it doesn't cause any probs-another bonus is that you can't see it there.
just some ideas for ya!!😀

Although I have a funny feeling this post is just fishing for a response, I am going to answer in case you are serious.
Running an oil cooler or any form of restriction in front of the fan shroud is a very bad idea. Not only will it reduce the amount of air being inducted into the low pressure high quantity fan it will begin the process of superheating the air it is using. The hotter the engine gets the hotter the oil gets, the hotter the oil gets the hotter the air gets, the hotter the engine gets and so on.
You have said you ran it and it ran fine, did you have temp senders and cylinder head temp senders and guages ? If not I would suggest that the engine running is not a good measure of if it was fine of not.
I have played with this theory before and by placing certain percentages of cover in front of the shroud I can vary the cyliner head temp quite easliy.
In short it is a VERY VERY BAD IDEA !!!
wibble ·
The setup I had wasn't on there long enough to test properly it was setup by an unnamed "VW specialist" in darwin
it had about a 3" gap between the shroud and cooler, only had a dipstick temp sender but overall temp seemed good.
but like I said testing was short as it did a big end before doing 150 k's yay!
still trying to get some money out of the #*!k that was over 2 years ago.......
wacked1 ·
you have email, questions on setting up the oil cooler.
thanks
wacked1
:jesus
Brad ·
So the guy who decided it was a good idea to put teh cooler in front of the fan, also built a VW engine and got 150km out of a bottom end... must really know his stuff 🙁🙁
Out of interest how the hell did you get 3" between the rear of the buggy and the fan shroud, let alone 3" plus cooler ?
wibble ·
cooler sat pretty close to the glass (bit too close I reckon) Yeah heard good things about this guy until I dropped the manx off and heard lots of bad things after the money was handed over, ended up getting towed by a hyundi (yeah scarey!) 100k took the motor out, dumped it on his floor and demanded most of my money back, still waiting..
Haven't trusted another machanic or "specialist" since
Min-76 ·
Front end (ball joint) before we started fitting the adjusters.
Min-76 ·
It looked & sounded easy in the Manx Club mag. One small problem they just did not look like they were sitting in the beam right. A quick call to Wes for a chat and things were back on track.
Min-76 ·
As the directions in the mag said, as long as ya line your scribe marks up & keep it square ya can`t go to far wrong.
(Welding the adjusters in was easy, I didn`t have to do it. Thanks to my Dad! as being right handed and having to weld with the left because of a breakage isn`t easy)
Min-76 ·
Both adjusters fitted. We also fitted the bump stops to each side.
Brad ·
Progress looks great, might make it to Fraser yet .....
The article told you how to install the adjusters, just not for the ball joint front end..... next issue will cover that so make sure youv'e got heaps of photos for me.
Andy42 ·
Good going guys. Mine is in the same position as you saw on the weekend🙁 Damn work.
daz67 ·
Quote Andy" Good going guys. Mine is in the same position as you saw on the weekend Damn work."

Maybe its all those trips to the Post Office with Your Manx Club Membership forms....
Maybe you should drop in and see Wes at the stand at Action Day, then the bagging "might" Stop! Then we only have Wibble to go!!!!
And Then the WORLD!!!! oops got carried away, thats the other club I'm in.:vader
Andy42 ·
yeh to be able to have the day off from work would be great!!! After taking last weekend off I have run out of browny points for awhile:puke
Brad ·
excuses are like ass holes !!!!!!!:P:P
Andy42 ·
Hey brad you and the boss at work must be on the same wave length as i think he used much the same as that at about the same time. Maybe not so polite😉 Anyway I have filled out all of that paper work reqiured for your club and it should be on its way tomorrow. OH and I had to send cash even though I know I am not supossed to. 🙁

AAARGH!!!!
Cash and Brad, Should we say a prayer now?
Min-76 ·
Adjusters finally fitted to beam. Cleaned the spring packs up, regreased and fitted back into tubes. Coat of paint and it looks as good as new. Until the first trip up the beach!
Min-76 ·
Fitted discs & callipars. Wheels, steering box and other bits will be done tomorrow night. At least it will be a lot easier to move around now.
daz67 ·
Looking Good Mic, Can't wait to check it out. We are coming over tomorrow night for dinner so will see it then.
Andy42 ·
hey guys can I borrow your dad after you are finished with him😀😀
Min-76 ·
Hey Andy, I can`t lend him but I can sell him.:thumb
Min-76 ·
I sat the shell on the pan tonite, ran into one small problem. The body has still got to move back about 70mm, the problem is it hits the linkages on the carbies. Does anyone know a way of remounting the linkage setup.:cry
11CAB ·
The carbies are bolted on the wrong way round, swap them from side to side & that will run the linkage at the back of the car & hopefully give you the 70mm you need.
daz67 ·
Hmmm,
Wonder who put those Carbies On?
Darren????
Brad ·
They are on Backwards to clear the upright centre mount fan ......
Min-76 ·
Hey Brad. is there a way of turning them around and clearing the alternater.
Brad ·
Dunno never looked, just know that is why the other mick had them than way..
:alien
Min-76 ·
I turned he Carbies around today which gave me the clearance i needed. (thanks for the hint) The throttle bracket was then hitting the back of the body just below the tail lights. A quick fabrication job and a new bracket was made that clears everything. We also had to add 27mm into the pipe running between the carbies so the linkages would not hit. :jesus
Min-76 ·
We bolted the body on today. A few nervous moments while drilling the pilot holes to fix the bonnet down. Next job is the dash frame, hopefully this will be made by the weekend so we can then start on the wiring.(joy)
Min-76 ·
Boozer ·
looking good!:thumb😀
Brad ·
Me thinks it will be the quickest Max FX Buggy Build ever.... in fact it may well be the 2nd EVER Max Fx on teh road 😀😀
Andy42 ·
And me thinks mine will be the slowest(build) but beat a v6 manx😀
Brad ·
Sounds like we could have a race..... I started the V6 Manx when I bought the half cut. Up until then it was a Type 4 manx.. So that means I must have what a 12 mth head start on you.....
You gunna have your finished by end of next year ?
Min-76 ·
A few hours were spent welding & grinding but it turned out well. The steering colum has been turned around so the indicators are now on the r/h side.
daz67 ·
Over a week and no updates????
Whats happened?
Min-76 ·
Fitted the guauges to the dash today. It turned out okay in the end, as it was a bit of a tight fit with the speedo & tacho. Now i just have to fit the rest of the car around the dash.
11CAB ·
Its looking good, but having setup a previous manx with all new VDO gauges I know that must have cost you a small fortune.
Brad ·
11CAB wrote:Its looking good, but having setup a previous manx with all new VDO gauges I know that must have cost you a small fortune.
A few words for you 11CAB ...
"MANX CLUB SHOP " :P:P
11CAB ·
Brad, I have seen the Club Shop, and the prices are very good.....but when the dash looks like a cockpit.......:o
daz67 ·
Quote:

Looks good to me.
But then I have the same amount of gauges.
Brad ·
I have more 😀😀 SO it looks a little empty. That being said he did go with 4" speedo and tacho .....
11CAB ·
Come to think of it, my Kombi has all those gauges too.....:o
Min-76 ·
Fitted the wiring loom tonite, it went in a lot easier than I thought it would. Drilled all the holes into the tubes leading to the front & rear and pulled all the wires through. We had to make a panel to monut all the wiring & fuse blocks under the bonnet, this has a drop down door for easy access to the fuse blocks. We start the barwork on the weekend, should be fun.
daz67 ·
Another Buggy On Fraser!!!!!!!!
:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce:bounce
Brad ·
Wires 🙁:P😀
daz67 ·
So how did the rewire go?
Is it ready to fire up yet?
Min-76 ·
Here is a pic of the front & middle bars we bent up on the weekend. Just a test run to make sure they fit, which they did. We will have them welded and fitted this weekend if all goes well. (Wiring.. Thanks to Brad) Yes Daz the wiring went well lucky to Brads super human knowledge & eagerness to work into the night we got it figured out. I still have a few ends to tidy up but it should be ready to start next week.
11CAB ·
Its looking good, is it likely to make Fraser?
Min-76 ·
Hopefully it will make it, still a few things to sort out.
daz67 ·
Will be over Sunday afternoon to lend a hand, do you need anything?
Min-76 ·
About another week
Brad ·
whot no PICTURES ???

daz67 ·
I Miss My Wheels!!!!!
:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry
Andy42 ·
So where are all the updates and the pics. 😀 and yeh mine still sits in the shed🙁
Min-76 ·
I will post some next week not much has changed since last pic. All the work done yiu can`t really see.
Min-76 ·
Here is the wiring loom once it has been all tidy up. The fuse panel it mounted on a drop down board for easy access. The bonnet is now screwed down and fingers crossed it will not have to be taken off in the near future.
Min-76 ·
Thanks to a bit sewing by Min(the wife) the bars have been padded and covered. Shouldn`t hurt as much when ya hit ya head now.
Brad ·
Hey how about and overview shot on the entire buggy now it is all prett like. You know a few side on, rear on and front on photos
Min-76 ·
Some pic`s I took this arvo. I have just got to finish the motor cage & mudflaps and it should be time to get rego.😉

Min-76 ·
It has taken a while but the buggy is finally registered. Just a few thing to sort out but that is to be expected. Many thanks to my dad, Dale for all the patience and time that has been given since it started. Also thanks to Brad for the hours spent on the wiring as I am a gumby, and also for the gearbox that was fitted late thursday arvo so it could be driven. And Daz, thanks for the hand when ya had the spare time.(And the rims.Very nice). See ya at the pub!!
Andy42 ·
congrats you guys have done a good job. Now all you have to do is to enjoy😀
wibble ·

11CAB ·
I finally saw it in the flesh today at Dubs by the Pub, very cool :thumb
MikeM ·
Looks like I'm about to embark down the road of a Max Fx build as well, but it will be the other way round. The Cars for my dad and I'll be helping 🙂
But that's cool cuz my dad will have to help me with my Manx upgrade project. 😀
The Manx club looks to be good for member support! You all seem very helpful.
As a new member to the club I look forward to meeting all of you over the coming months (I know a few of you already, but there's plenty more to meet 🙂 )
Anyway, nice job on the Max FX and I hope ours will come up as good.
Mike
Brad ·
More buggies .... coolio :thumb:thumb
Andy42 ·
So are you guys bringing the Max out to play at Landcruiser park this weekend
daz67 ·
They will be there Andy, They said something like: "This Baby will go anywhere!!! Andy better not get in our way with his lame ass Sandman!!!!
Or least something like that. :P:P:P
Andy42 ·
Mate not much chance there I have already broken it🙂
daz67 ·
So will it be fixed by the weekend?:jesus
What have you broken?:cry
Bring the Manx/Max FX instead!!!!!
:sandrine
Andy42 ·
Nope it wont be fixed I will be bringing the ute as I blew a head gasket and broke a head bolt. Am now pulling out the piece of shit diesel and going back to a petrol motor.
daz67 ·
Don't suppose you want to buy a Jeep?😀
Thats a real pisser. We better make sure we don't go too far into the park to camp if your bringing the Ute.
Maybe catch a lift in with Dyno or Wes. Leave the ute at the Office.
Andy42 ·
If brad can get the kombi in there I will get the ute in there🙂
daz67 ·
Andy42 wrote:If brad can get the kombi in there I will get the ute in there🙂
So its a challenge then.
OK, so we will be Camping in the middle of Cruiser Canyon.
Just get a Map from the office and follow the Red Squiggly lines that say Extreme Tracks, disregard the signs that say, Recovery from here will cost you Big $$$$$ there only there to scare you. :thumb
Andy42 ·
hmmmm can I go back to Maybe I will get it in there a little way😀
daz67 ·
Catch you later, will chat before Friday.
Brad ·
Kombi v's ute ... this should be fun 😀 better not tell Jen she don't like me taking Kombi's off road :thumb
Andy42 ·

Andy42 ·
Well it proved itself to be a capable of road buggy on the weekend. They have done a great job.Hmmm better start work on mine again😀
daz67 ·
Yeah Well done guys, you made it there and back and around the Park without breaking it.
Almost inspires me to take mine back to the Park.
Nahh!!!
Yeah I'm soft before you start!!!
:vader
daz67 ·
So Mic, Is this what your new roof will look like?
You said it had good head room in the rear!
But man, thats wicked.
Min-76 ·
Close to that but with a window in the rear to cut out the blind spots.:jesus
