Good on you Pete, Rod - looking forward to a skid or two with you. Guess I'll have to dry out the welcome mat for your arrival after all the washed out meetings we have had. - Let me know if you need anything (weather information at the track will be charged at standard (previous) call charge rates!!!)
LOWBUG ·
So I take it you and the vintage crew won't be there dave.

were you staying pete.i got room for you if it's needed.
the room fee is a cherry free weekend.lol
vw54 ·
u got the car going again ???
HS618 ·
Pete, to help with the red-lights, I've got a wheel chock on a bit of string that Macca or Westi can remove at the appropriate moment (depends on how quick their reactions are)
Seriously though, Sydney Dragway is pretty good in regard to holding the car on the line (270 degrees of surrounding concrete help)
Having seen the staging light positioning at Portland, Sydney Dragway is a little more consistent lane to lane with a tad more rollout
RAZ34 ·
Westi ,
I'll need a king size room with on-suite ,room service and late check out.
Also do you want me to bring a motor for you as well.
RR
Dak-A-Tak ·
Thanks for the help , but I 'm sure the wind was pushing my lite car down track .😂
Westi , ring your shop next week , mate . Get to work .
Henry ! I'll let more air out of tyres , so they lay flat on pavement . Fly trap principal . 🤪
HS618 ·
Hey Rod, you got any spare engines for me too? -your "spares" are heaps faster than my main engines would ever be!! Anything about 500 cu.in would be nice
westi ·
on-suite sorted,it alfresco outside the garage door.just for you.
i might even be able to get an alarm clock that chimes to the sound of cow's grazing in a paddock.it may be the best of your life.
as for the engine, you would proberly have a hole car i could borrow, you proberly just haven't pete about it yet.
i cleaned the garage out yesturday.and i have organized the fat controller.let's just see if there is enough time for him to clean it in time to get to the track.
as for the wind pagey.sure mate.lol

VWMA Editor ·
Yes, the VWMA Drag Rat has found a new home. The little rat has been a great car, and is a sound base for Ben and Morgan to take it to the next stage. Thanks to Rod Penrose for the engine and Dave Butler for the transmission, the rat ran its best time at Portland with an 8.30@80mph. And it was still haulin'. I only grabbed 4th at the line, so Ben should have some decent fun on the 1/4 mile.
Paint? That's extra weight! 😂 Although I guess there is the streamline factor....

Hi Guys , If anyone is going to enter for compak attak get in now befor prices go up , plus at this stage only 5 allmotor entries which is not enough for a bracket . If anyone has questions give Ray Box a call now . I don't want to travel down to Sydney for no bracket to race in .
Cheers Peter Page

HS618 ·
Do I get to run the winner or the loser of the Westi / Pete challenge?
westi ·
both if your lucky ,then we can have our own little points score for the end of the day.😀😀😀😀
the way pete ran last time i should be a shoe in,he like the cherries.😂😂:lol.
i'm pumped,i can't wait for those pre-race jitters.
but in all seriousness i will be happy just to see a few volkies knocking of the competition.fingers crossed everyone has an awsome day.
see you guy's there.
whathaveidone ·
im with you on that one. the rat arrived today. hangin to have a run!!!!!!!!!!!!
HS618 ·
I'm sure that Pete could show us all a thing or two in regard to how to get the best out of our Volkswagens.
As a side issue, Maybe, if we all stand behind Pete's car when he's running we can generate enough wind for him to feel at home (just like Portland)
Seriously though, I can't wait for Compak. Good Luck to ALL competitors and safe driving to all coming a long way (NRMA Road Service number is 131111)
From recent personal experience, check your relevant ANDRA lisences as I missed out on Round 4 of Sydney Dragway Bracket Championships last week as my ANDRA lisence was just out of date
Hey Ross, there's room at this meeting for you too!!!!!
westi ·
if the dog comes there will definatly be enough wind generated for a portland re--inactment.😂

Hi All,
With the Haltech Compak Attak only a week away the issue of Flywheel shields has been raised so to head of any issues on the day of the event following is the ANDRA Rules on it.
From ANDRA General Regs
4.2.6 Flywheel Shields / Bell-housing
All other clutch equipped cars running quicker than 11.00 (1/4 mile) / 7.00 seconds (1/8 mile) are required to use a steel or titanium bell-housing or shield. A totally enclosing 360 degree, one-piece bell housing must be formed or fabricated entirely from 6mm (1/4 inch) steel plate and attached directly to the rear of the engine. Where used, flywheel shields must be constructed so they completely surround the clutch failure. The shield should be constructed from 6mm (1/4 inch) steel plate, and extend forward to a point at least 25mm (1 inch) ahead of the flywheel, and 25mm (1 inch) to the rear of the clutch and pressure plate. Shields must not be bolted to the bell-housing and should attach securely to the frame /chassis. All shields or bell-housings must be removed from the vehicle for checking during the Technical Inspection. An engine support strap made of steel or aircraft cable (chain not accepted) capable of supporting the rear of the engine in case of bell-housing failure is required on all cars, unless it is evident that the headers or frame rails will prevent the engine from dropping.
Be aware that Ballistic Blankets are NOT legal. If you are running a Ballistic Blanket I suggest you contact immediately.
Thanks Westi , rear engine sedans , vw's and porsche are exempt on blanket , for moment .
A rotary dragster had a clutch exsplosion at Calder , bits came through blanket then hit someone in crowd .
Now a lawsuit is happening .

How cool is that

The junka died after the burnout and couldn't restart due to flat battery. That's gotta suck.
The two yellow volksie's blasting down the track looked great and sounded even better at full noise.
FROSTY ·
Fukin unreal, congrats Peter

Bummer for Brad. Biggest hassel with EFI is getting those hot start maps right and keeping good cranking voltages. Must have been dissapointed.
Lucky Pete's win would have made the pain go away......SORTA😂😂😂
LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
So Im guessing the pink shirt will be worn tomorrow at Westside........
Congrats Pete's driving and car, Rod's engine!! Obviously a good combo!!

Awesome stuff Pete - huge congrats !!!

Two Qld based "All Motor" Volksies solidly into the 10's within weeks of each other.... this is shaping up to be a very interesting year methinks...

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE ·
Certainly does throw down the gauntlet to the southern folk among us......
Remember when a 14 sec passs was super quick??Jambo early 90's when Dangerous had his current car with S/C set up grudge running Brian Munro's Escort with mid to high 10 sec to low 11 sec passes was considered insane!!

Yep....real old. 😂😂
Mmmmm I was there too.🥲
Dasdubber ·
Haha.....amazing how the years seem to fly by!
Anyway, nostalgia aside for a moment, massive congratulations to Pete for avoiding the cherry and taking the hard earned win. I'm sure competing and flying the volksie flag was reward enough for making the trip down, but winning all motor must make the trek all that much worthwhile.
Well done, and congratulations to all the other VW owners/crew who got out there as well.
Al
oldskl60 ·
Massive congrats to Pete and crew for the win AND the joining the 10sec club!! Looking forward to some footage.
Nice work to all who flew the VW flag - having 4 in a field of 10ish is awesome. Hopefully we can get the same at the Jambo
dangerous ·
I woke up this morning, still stoked!!
This means more to me, than my own wins and times,
because I know how long Pete has been racing and building his car,
and on tight bugetry rations.
I was biting my nails waiting for the text messages from Rod Richardson to come through,(thanks Rod!)
The last win Pete had,
was way back in about 2003 or 2004 when the VWs went to Warwick.
(before VWMA began),
and Pete had his trophy stolen by Peter Russell Clark.(Where's the Cheese!!).
Good on you dude.
How did all the other Volksies go?
Stanley ·
Great effort Pete. Good things come to those that wait.
I guess Rod won't be getting his engine back now....😏

yeh big bummer day for us,lucky i have a sens of humour.
otherwise it would have been a hot bath and a sharp razor when i got home.
first run if you could call it that was a burnout and an oil leak for these lose.
second run broken water temp sensor,so limp mode for that 19 sec pass.slowest win in history.
then the finally was a lose battery terminal.fuck yeh.
it was a day we had to have to make sure next time should be hassel free.
should be out again next week or two.
it was agreat day apart from the heat wasn't treating me to well cause i had been in bed sick the week prior.thank's for the drink's henry.your a life saver.
i am looking forward to going out with the vw boy's again soon.
HS618 ·
Pete, again Congratulations on your obvious constant hard work and winning this event. For me, losing the race between us (or anybody) sucks - however it feels a little better to know that I lost to you, the winner of the bracket. No excuses but s**t it was a close race!!!!
(I wasn't sure if you believed my weather reports prior to our run and your delayed dial-in nomination really cracked me up - I was even laughing in the burnout box as they were cleaning up MY oiled down lane, maybe that's where the 3/10's went?). Best of all, I want a re-match!!!!
On running your first 10 second pass, it must be an awesome feeling after all this time - I hope the feeling lasts with you a long time. ****Outstanding****. As some of us know, the faster you go, the harder it gets.
Mike and Darren, Thanks for your physical and mental support. As you observed, I don't function well in heat (Pete, take note for future runs)
Dave, sometimes NO shinanigans are the best shinanegans - unpredictability is great - and we all get to laugh about it later (I leave the headspin for non vw's - maybe)
Brad, you'e most welcome. Maybe it's my many years with my current employer, but I love to help anybody (especially friends and fellow racers), in any way. Glad you're upbeat about your minor teething issues. I look forward to having a skid with you sometime soon. The car looks IMPRESSIVE and a credit to (the fully sick) you
Ben, it was great meeting you. You have made massive gains in your very short time in the car. - very impressive!! I look forward to seeing even more improvements in the future and having some runs with you
To all that wern't there, you missed a great VW get together

BIG THANKS TO ALL ABOVE !!!!!! , Very tierd now after getting home safe and unloading car , and gear .
It was good close racing , had to beat a Qld first round , then a friend second round (had to wait for ever 11.05 to Henrys 12.35 ), had a bye run third round but ran it through back door ( lost oil pressure on way to pits) more tomorrow , the final race was great becouse I was shitting myself about oil pressure but I caught him easy then played beside him but he allso broke out (11.746 on a 11.80 dial up )
Lots more tomorrow night
Brad and Bobbie thanks for letting us stay at your place ( kids too ) and lunch too Saturday .Stock for the headache and laughs
Thanks fellow Vw racers , Henry , Ben , Brad .
Big THANKS to buddy Rod Richardson , all over good guy in my life !
matberry ·
Sounds like a great weekend. Glad everyone made it home ok, and Pete, you little ripper!!!!
What an awesome pass, 1.499 60 ft...very cool.
I reckon Rod won't want that motor back, damn thing's no good if it can't hold oil pressure for a 1/4 mile !!!!
You better keep it and do some work on it hey?????
HS618 ·
Sorry , I missed someone very special, someone with a kind heart and a great (be it low on oil pressure) engine. Thanks Rod, thanks a bloody lot!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you up for shinanegans at Warwick?
RAZ34 ·
Henry i'm always up for shinanegans. As for the motor I need a new one as that old thing will be way too slow to get me into the 10's. Also watch for the Junka . Having seen the Dyno sheet and weight it should be interesting.

Yep , Dave we go back a long way and time in the vw drag scene . Many girls have past in my life over the years and trips up to willowbank in your old 1200 bug and white type 3 , still seem like only a few years back . Its been so good that we both have run 10's the same month and year , so I should remember this time for life !!Thanks again dude !!😎
We didn't take any video footage of runs but one of Brads mates got the 10sec pass from the hill .
Rod was able to take a few pics ,
Great pictures dude.
What was the list of times you ran over the day,
and where was the tune-up compared with Portland?
Good to see Ben running so well, and beginning to transform/personalise the car.
I see new windows, doors and wheels!!
Brad, car looks great, and should be a rocket once bugs are ironed out.
Whats the deal with that exhaust?!
Looks pretty salubrious!.
Henry's car is looking good, and performing well for something that is no lightweight.
When are you going to slow it back down to the 12.8 to 12.9 zone?!
What were your runs and speeds like through the day Henry?
rXc3NtR1c ·
Congrats to Peter on the win. Cheers to Henry for the run in round 1, sadly I had to loose. Looks like us rota boys need to lift our game 😁
Tone (Black S4 RX7)
HS618 ·
To rXc3NtR1c, Thanks for the race - there's always next time, Come around and say hello if you are at any Sydney Dragway meetings where you see the yellow beetle.
As to lifting your game, I reckon we can ALL lift our game in some way or another!!
Dave, I have to get it to launch and 60' consistently first before I can slow it down
I am missing one of my time cards for Compak (the one I had with rXc3NtR1c). If I can find it then I will post as I would rather post the full set.
I am still recovering from the heat of the weekend - getting old you know.
Looking at reaction times of Pete's run with me, either both of us were horribly late for our run or just a bit early for the run after us!!! (room for improvement)

Thats light compared to my over 900kg race weight at WSID scales 🤪......I think i will give it a diet at the end of the year, although I have to comply with rego 🥲 !
HS618 ·
It sure is light compared to your 900kg car, however, mine is drag only with no need for compromise.
Weight is relatively unimportant when looking at Pete's run with me. Handicapping is such a wonderful thing. It evens everyone out!!
Diet doesn't sit well with me or the car (currently) as I am not trying to compete with or match the ET's of the faster aspirated VW's..

Started with same tune-up as Portland , 17psi tyres , 7600 rpm start , 205mains , wheelie bars 125mm.
