Hi Guys

Anyone know who sells a tee piece for the oil sender so you can install aguage and keep the idiot light. All the local stuff here is 1/8 NPT and the VW block is 10 x 1.

So Im chasing a 10x1 male and two 1/8 npt females.

matberry ·

VDO make one, but you need to watch the parts guy to make sure you get the 10 x 1 male. It has a 1/8 nptf in the side and 10 x 1 f in the other end for the og oil idiot light.

Matt

Thats exactly what I want, do you know of a webpage or part nymber, searched VDO website and couldnt find anything

Crikey, I had to get out of my chair !!!!

Part # 230 033

Hi

You can buy a VDO sender with the idiot light and pressure sender in it. Part number 360.031, it uses the 1/8 27NPTF thread but it will screw into a M10 threaded hole OK.

No Steve, the case thread will not like that.

clinker42 ·

Yep, the case is 10 and the VDO stuff is 1/8npt. It will screw in but over 4 threads the 10 mm is 1 thnread out (if you get that lol). I wouldnt do it on an alloy case.

HHAHA
Thanks Matt, sorry about making you get out of ya chair on a sunday.

And the next person or you remove's the sender and puts in a 10 x 1 oil pressure switch and hey it's stripped....oops now rebuild onto a new case....yeah right. Not a good way to go. I wouldn't butcher the thread just to use a 27npt wrong fitting....hey I'm harsh dude, but it can easily strip now so you need to be careful. 🙂

Hi

I would rather have the one sender than a Christmas tree hanging off the little oil sender thread.

If you wanted to, you could machine up a short bit of hex brass with the correct thread at each end and then use the 1/8 dual sender.

the tee peice is available from Vintage 02-9789-1777

greedy53 ·

be very carefrul most senders are tapered a vw is not the taper will split the case at the sender

johny rotten ·

The OE oil switch is tapered ,
it will split the case if you screw it in too far

I don't like the idea of a large fitting hanging out,

I used a solid steal thread insert(time-sert) in the 10x1 hole , then a NON tapered brass fitting as short as possible with a sealing washer and epoxy.

😂

Hi

Double checked the sender in my sons bug, its one from a VAG car, Passat, Golf etc, I bought it on Ebay a while ago, has a 10 mil parallel thread, sorry about the bad info.

a vw is not tapered & will split the case at the sender
Yes..

the old old way... tapered threads...

I wonder who invented the tapered thread??

probably a plumber 100 years ago or more.... lol

OK with 3/4 inch gal pipe... [inside size]

but on brass or alloy.. YIKES....

Just be careful.... and use a sealant on the thread...

You don't keep screwing until the thread disappears.. lol

cheers

Tappered threads are a industry standard that are used in thousands of of applications every day and will be around for years to come, they are practical and they work well withinn the correct application, i only do the fittings up basicly hand tight using loctite hydraulic sealent along with its primer, this is available from any bearing service in small bottles but the parts to be sealed must be spotless with no traces of oil, as for the extensions that are available they have been around for years without any problems as long it is the right thread.
