Not sure if this has been asked before but I searched and could not find any information. I just bought a 69 ghia and will be restoring it. I am still trying to decide which route I will take but was wondering if anybody has installed a fuel cell in their ghias?
Thanks

Are you planning on racing it ???

Not tried it on a Ghia, but had trouble fitting a decent sized fuel cell in the front of a bug... the standard tank shape meant needed odd shaped/sized cells, and plumbing supply and return lines was a pain. Also possibly an issue if you want to keep it legal for rego... at least in Qld there's a rule that says that you can't change how the tank is filled, so if it has an external fuel filler (pretty sure a 69 KG does ?) then you'd need an externally filled fuel cell too...so yeah, that pretty much put paid to my thinking of having a fuel cell in the bug.

Something I did find out though (but haven't done yet) is that you can just buy the foam filling in block form from places like Revolution RaceGear... idea being shove it down through the fuel sender opening or filler neck, and gradually fill as much of the tank up as possible... nice simple way of getting most of the benefit !!!

Hi

Do you mean like a hydrogen fuel cell?

The foam breaks down after a while, the tank in my sons bug was out of my car and it was foam filled. When it broke down it actually made the inlet valves stick open.

You are right Sides, in qld you must have the filler externally if it was originally external. ( This is my first attempt at a post, so I hpoe I did it right)

Ouch !!!

OK - scratch what I said about getting the foam for the tank then.

Out of curiosity Steve, did you have an in-line filter in there anywhere, or did it break down so much it just got past the filter ???
