Oil Pump

Hi Guys,

I was thinking about using a 26mm oil pump in my pre 69 case. Its currently a 1835 and am looking to take it to 2007cc.

I notice the 26mm pump I have has larger inlet (and outlet) hole.

Is this a problem as the case has a smaller inlet feed (I will go to and external oil filter so I am not concerned about outlet).

Cheers

Hi
not sure..

but the early single port engines have smaller oil galleries than the later engines... single oil pressure relief valve too...

You may need to use a later model case...

someone on here will tell You for sure....

Hi Lee,

Its way passed your bed time.

Regarding the case, its a matter of working with what I have.

Cheers

The larger port pumps can be used on early engines,
but you should make sure that the holes in the pump do not over lap into the cavity behind it.

I am not proficient will all the early part numbers, but I was sure there was a pump made for that case in 26 and 30mm.

Also make sure that the pump body does not hit on the cam rivets or bolts.

The tang must engage with the cam slot without binding on the steps.

When using the large port pump, you may like to "match port" the holes in the case and pump,
but provided the pump ports can not suck any air, it should work fine as it is.

It'll work, yes, especially after checking the above details, but, a 2007 out of a pre '69 case...... The engine block is the main structure holding your engine together, it's over 40 years old. VW never intended reusing the case at all when first designed as the light weight magnesium just isn't that good long term. Then the big engine with the old/ small oil system will have a tough time cooling with lack of oil volume....I understand the desire to use what you have already, but think about replacing the case with a new one or at least a later one....I recommend new every time.
