It had been a couple of months since I'd driven Gwendolyn to work (something about being stuck on the M4 in the middle of summer with no air con), but I dragged her back out this week, and she behaved beautifully, although I'd forgotten how bad the superbeetle shimmies are between 90 and 100. Anyway, when people saw her, it made them smile, and it had already made me smile.
I also smiled today when I went to Bunnings and saw a Renault Dauphine Gordini in the carpark. Like these ones:

I had a good look over it and it was in good nick, and I couldn't resist a rear engine. Unfortunately I didn't see the owner to have a chat. I love old cars 馃槏
Then on the way home, there was a Lotus 7 charging along. I was stopped next to him at the lights and asked him what engine he had. Toyota 4AGE. I asked whether it was supercharged, and he told a lie. His answer was "I don't need it, I have enough power". Nobody buys a car intended to go fast and thinks they have 'enough' power. The only thing that makes people say that is the constraints, i.e. room in engine bay, money, chassis' ability to cope etc.
Or perhaps I've been reading too much of the drags racers on here or some of the crap in the 'Fastest Street registered VW' thread. 馃槀
