You may have seen me post in the selling forum for a 70 or earlier beetle. fingers crossed all going well i should be the owner of a 69 beetle.
I am going to lower the front and of course get a set of wheels. I'd be interested in seeing your wheels and what price and where I could get a set from.
You may be able to pick up a set of V Force spiders
6" x 15" 36 or 20ET
Otherwise go Porsche if you are after GL
Paulc1964au ·
Actually i would like the existing wheels widened to 195 if possible

yeah, good luck - it's not proving too easy.

Widened stock wheels look great. You can buy brand new chrome steel wheels in 15 x 5.5" size to suit 12v Beetles. As Dave says, ring Vintage (02) 9789 1777.
Paulc1964au ·
awesome thats exactly what i want thanks
Paulc1964au ·
I called vintage they dont have them in chrome but have in paitned silver for $200 each apparently chrome are hard to come by and are Brazillian chrome which need a lot of waxing

At that price I would rather Empi 8 spoke cant be much more, and alloy wont rust.

What do the EMPI 8 Spoke look like?
Paulc1964au ·
ok found them these are real sweet
I was considering just basic chrome steel wheels but i might save my money
vw54 ·
no matter what chrome wheels you gt they will rust as chrome aint what it used to be

Paulc1964au ·
Thanks Dave the more i research into vw parts and chrome i am hearing the same story about chrome.
What mag wheels are available? The other option i am thinking it widened steel wheels in white with the chrome hubcaps

I am picking up my 69 Beetle on Saturday i know they are 4 stud but not sure what you mean about the offset?
I am really wanting to go with the standard bug look but with lowered front suspension. So im thinking widened rims painted white with the original chrome hubcaps but I am open to suggestions
t1 time ·
cool
Paulc1964au ·
Love the car what model

Paulc1964au ·
I actually like this look I guess I could get my wheels widened or buy widened steel rims then add the white inserts and use the original hub caps
bus914 ·
Those above look like the older wide-5 stud pattern.
If you're after second hand 4 stud 5.5 inch wide steelies. You can have these with tyres for $200.
Paulc1964au ·
are they 15's?
Joel ·
Paulc1964au wrote:ok found them these are real sweet
real empi....🙄
that shits funny
bus914 ·
Paulc1964au wrote:are they 15's?
Yes
Paulc1964au ·
thanks will keep it in mind i get the car on Saturday so need to work out what I want to do.
I would have the rims re painted and cleared I just think if all im doing to my white 69 is to lower the front and put wide wheels then they are more suited than mags but in the end it is just personal preference
Paulc1964au ·
Out of interest what width are standard wheels for a 69 beetle?
Paulc1964au ·

bus914 what is the offset on these rims and the tyre size you are running? Have you had any clearance issues on the type 3?
bugzla ·
these ones were off my orange bug
bus914 ·
mackaymanx wrote:bus914 what is the offset on these rims and the tyre size you are running? Have you had any clearance issues on the type 3?
Offset is 25. tyres 185/65. No rubbing anywhere. Car is slightly lowered.
Paulc1964au ·
I have decided to go with the EMPI 8 spokes with 195's x V65 on the rear and 175's x V65 on the front. I will then have RAW do some drop spindles
bugzla ·
my old bug with the wheels 17x7 4x130 pcd
Paulc1964au ·
Awesome bug and wheels where is it now?
bugzla ·
its still here in townsville i love seeing it its always clean as it was when i owned it awesome lil car
Paulc1964au ·
Anybody have some photos of their bugs with V-Force Spyders?
Bizarre ·
Saw Richard today - but he only has 2 wheels left
More "may" be turning up soon
I "thought" Matt Ryan knew of a set
Bizarre ·
Paulc1964au wrote:but not sure what you mean about the offset?
Offset is how far the wheel sits fron the face of the drum/rotor
A V Force Spider and Porsche Cookie Cutter is 6" ET 36
The above wheels are probably the best fitmant for a super beetle.
They are also very good for a beam beetle
A lot of 4 stud wheels are 6" ET 20 and this is too wide for a decent lowering
Paulc1964au ·
Ok just to update where I am at based on my other thread about tyres
Rosie will have drop spindles installed still need to decide whether i should do this before or after the wheels.
Tyre sizes will most likely be
Rear 195 x 15 x V65
Front 175 x 15 x 175
Have placed an order for EMPI 8 spokes (due in July) but am a little torn on whether I should buy these or go with a mode traditional look of have chrome wheels with hubcaps as Rosie is a pretty straight looking 69. If i buy the 8 spokes I may paint the callipers and drums racing red as that will make the car go faster lol
In the end it comes down to personal choice and thats the problem. I will be going to the Australian Nationals next month to have a good look at wheels and upholstery so maybe i will make a final decision then.
If you have photos of your beetle with chrome wheels would love to see them on here
