Sump plate studs

Hi all, I have a question...again?...yeah I know.
Some time in the past some ham fisted dude or dudette has resorted to putting about 50ft/lb on the sump plate stud nuts instead of the usual and specified 7 ft/lb.

This has resulted in someone seeing the need to have only 3 studs and 3 bolts to hold the plate on. Now this isn't a real good fix as the bolts are holding in the threads by just a whisker and allowing oil to seep out. Now that I have the leaky rocker cover problem all fixed..this is the next 'must fix'.
The question is: Can remove the studs, tap out the holes to 6mmx1 and ...here comes the tricky bit....can I then screw 20mm long 6mm bolts through these holes from the INSIDE of the sump casing? I reckon..if I can do this it will work better than having studs as the torque placed on the nuts will be directed to the bolt and not into the threads in the case. This will..according to my fuzzy old mind..virtually allow me to make the problem of stripped nuts and threads a thing of the past. The flat head of the bolt bearing on the upper side of the inner case will create a very good amount of grip and forever allow me to apply as much torque as is needed to stop any leaks.
The other question is: will these bolt heads interfere with any of the internal workings of the motor?
I await your observations, criticisms or construtive thoughts.

no interference u need some 6mm helicoils

So...I can put the 6mm helicoils in and still do the bolt from the inside out bit then?

Again, no interference, but a; it will prove very difficult and b; the extra tension just distorts the plate and it will continue to leak. Put in helicoils that will repair the thread and it will stronger than stock anyway OR you can get repair stepped studs that are M6 at one end and M8 the other, tap the case to M8 (also stronger than og) and loctite them in....Done.

Matt's suggestion of the 8mm x6mm stepped studs is in my opinion the best option and Gazza I did not do any oil changes or tappet adjustments on this little bug.🙅

Cheers Les...😂..I wasn't suggesting that you did....it might've been her dad for all I know.

It definately sounds like the stepped studs are the way to go...any idea where I can get a set from??

But..I still reckon my idea has some merit though.....hehehehe

cheers

I have the stepped studs in stock if you want some. Easy to post.
Just need to say the word, oh and how many you need.

I think You may be able to do this??
at least place a nut on the other end....
but if the nut comes loose...??

the original type nuts are pretty good though....
they strip easily.. I have found so, no need to replace the studs..

but the 6mm x 8mm studs have been available since someone started to tighten the nuts with a 12 inch shifter..
lol... or a long spanner...
