Whats the quietest zorst people have got.

Cannons beenannoying a few people and i wanna prove to them its not all the cannon but mainly the air cooler.

If i just got a big muffler box of any car and welded it on like a fatboy would it be quieter the bigger?

Or is there a specfic box i should look for like a primary or secondary one.

Ive had a quiet pack but its been mdified and put onto the work van so its not mine no more.

Pictures would be good too.

well... bigger is not always better... might just change the sound and kill your back pressure.

a muffler would be helpful. they make tuckaway ones. but... in the end it is what it is, and will be fairly loud. tell people to deal with it.

Hi
I did have straight out pipes from My VW muffler which was noisy..
My Wife hated the noise..

I now have GENIE extractors and a thunderbird quiet muffler..

Excellent...

a normal VW muffler with the pea shooters or muffled taper tips are also quiet...

the VW muffler doesn't really quieten the noise much...

its the twin pipes that do the muffling...

You could just buy a couple of mufflers to suit 6 cylinder engines.

they should be large enough to have little back pressure if any...

I had a freeflow muffler to suit a V8 car on an L300 years ago.
sounded great... I thought....

Wife took it to the muffler man one day....

never sounded the same.. lol

probably best to talk to an old muffler mechanic....

PS: whatever you do... it will cost you money... lol

I've got an 1.5" thunderbird header with the matcing thunderbird quiet pack same as in Lees first pic and on a stock 1600 with stock carb and air filter its actually quieter than a standard peashooter muffler

has a nice note to it though

One of my kids will only ride in the Beetle if she can wear earmuffs.

For a very similar reason I scored some stock mufflers of a bike. Awesome quality with a serious multi-chambered design.

I didn't have a good run with quiet-pack mufflers. Within one year both end caps came loose, then a year or two later the whole thing rusted through and exploded. Maybe it was just a dodgy one.

you're not alone. Any thunderbird muffler I have had rusted through in quick time. They last slightly longer than the extractor.

maybe its just luck of the draw
the thunderbird header and muffler on my 1776 are still like new after 3 years although its always garaged

and the same system which was fitted new to sonic in 2004 has also held up well with no rust holes despite sitting in the paddock for years, just lots of surface rust

Cant beat a stock muffler for sounding nice and quiet. I had a real quiet setup that was originally built for mick58s beetle I think. Ran through 2 stainless mufflers wrapping round the engine. Was real quiet but I didn't like the sound of it. I replaced it with the stock muffler and some new stock tips. Sounds heaps better, Not racy but nicer. I guess it comes down to the fact stock motors work best with stock equipment.

I had a 2 1/2 inch turbo straight through muffler on a 1776 years ago, phatboy style. Was loud but had a nice bark to it, Sounded nice with straight cut gears as well.
On the same car I also had a 2 inch system that exited the header, wrapped around the drivers side, under the bellhousing and came out on the passengers side at the back through a single 2inch turbo muffler, it had about 1.5m of pipe before the muffler and a nice big rolled chrome tip on the end. All my mates thought it sounded like a WRX(stock 1835 with Kads) and had great ground clearance as well. If you dont want it to sound like a vw adding length is the way to go.
