Hey Guys

I have a '66 fastback and it's an auto. I was wondering where and how much it would cost to get it converted. I live in WA. I was also wondering if I could do it myself and if so where i could get a transmission from.

Thanks guys

YOU CAN FIND TYPE 3 TRANSMISSIONS FAIRLY EASILY

JUST NEED TO LOOK OUT... and keep asking... lol

YOU ALSO NEED THE SHIFTER ROD that goes back to the gearbox.. gearstick etc..

flywheel.. clutch cable and pedals.. etc...

putting a clutch tube in tunnel.... thats the hard part....
welding it in place..

PS: why change???
a 1966 auto fastback would be rare I would say.. !!

Was the floorpan on the auto specific or universal for both auto and manual. Check if the tube is already there.

Hi Dallas,

Yes
the tube may be there...
as this is one very early automatic type 3....

I didn't know they had auto type 3s until around 68-69...

If it is a retrofit, that'd mean all the mounting gear'd be there for the pedal, wouldn't there? I haven't got the car yet, so I'm not so sure what the specs of the car. I'm fairly sure it's a '66 but I'll be having a look at it next weekend. I'll keep you guys posted with the year and all that.

Thanks for all the answers, it's my first car and she's a beaut.

Sounds like it was a pan swap with a 69 on. you can tell by the chassis number.

How much for the auto shifer?

the rear end of a type 3 is bolt in
u can easily change it back to manual
it must have a later model IRS rear end already installed
so u can have a manual IRS 66
cool
